While plumbing is MrHooper’s primary business, he also builds fish pondsHe told us he has been building ponds for five years although we don’t know how many ponds he has built in that timeHe was recommended to us for the extension of our existing Koi pond by someone who owns an aquarium and aquatic pet store and from who we have purchased KoiWe trusted his recommendation and MrHooper’s apparent abilities (and reviews) as a plumber and hired MrHooper for this projectWhile we believe that the plumbing was done correctly, the project was fraught with problems, including MrHooper’s structural plan, his lack of aesthetic judgment, and his execution of the workThe experience ended up being very frustrating and what was supposed to be a fun project turned out to be a major headacheThe main problems were: (1) the project lasted several months instead of a week or soThis was partly because MrHooper had not anticipated the problems digging the hole for the pond (lots of tree roots) but also because he did not work on any day in which there was a bit of rain and would not make up rain days by working on the weekends; (2) the pond continued to leak even after many attempts by MrHooper to fix it (our water bill was triple what it was last year at the same time.); (3) we had to pay someone to do additional stone work to cover up some of MrHooper’s uglier handiwork which he refused to admit was an eye sore (see attached photo of what he considered finished product); and (4) after months of frustration and increasingly limited responsiveness from MrHooper to resolve issues, we had to hire someone to redo much of the workIn conclusion, we would not recommend contracting MrHooper to build a pond
