Review: I had an appointment on Feburay 18, 2013 to have [redacted],after the [redacted] was completed [redacted] ask me "How did I plan to pay for this service? I gave her my credit card number. My claim went to my dental insurance, Aetna. The total $1,121.00 that I would had to pay. [redacted], from the dental office, requested $1,200.00, on my VISA card. After a number of phone calls requesting a statement and not receiving one, I drove to the office on April 12, 2013 and the statement stated that I had a refund of $102.80. I thought she would send me a refund, on April 19. 2013, I called the dental office and She had sent the refund to Visa as she didn't know I paid $1,200.00. HER ACCOUNT BOOK SHOULD OF TOLD HER HOW MUCH I PAID.I HAVE THAT SHE FEELING SHE WAS TRYING TO STEAL MONEY FROM ME. [redacted]Desired Settlement: A REFUND TO ME

Response:

Total cost of patient’s surgery was $1600. We contacted [redacted], her insurance company, and, based on that contact, estimated [redacted] would pay approximately $400. We then called the patient to tell her that the total cost of her surgery would be $1600, that her insurance would probably pay $400 of the total cost and that she would be responsible for the payment of the $1200 balance. We again called the patient two business days before surgery to confirm preoperative instructions and to remind her that a payment of $1200 was due before surgery. On 2/18/13, patient arrived for her scheduled surgery. She was asked for her payment of $1200 prior to anesthesia and the surgery. She made her payment with Visa in the amount of $1200. Patient signed her receipt, we scanned the receipt and handed the original to her. We then proceeded with the surgery.

On 3/4/13, [redacted] paid $330 on her account. This left the patient with a balance of $70 on her account. A letter was sent to [redacted] asking for additional payment. On 4/2/13, an additional payment of $172.80 was received from [redacted] creating a credit of $102.80. Refunds are issued within 30 days, however the patient called on 4/12/13, claiming that she never signed for payment of the $1,200 and she demanded a copy of her credit card receipt. It was explained to her at that time that she had a refund coming to her in the amount of $102.80. The patient complained and wanted her refund immediately. To accommodate the patient the $102.80 was reimbursed to her that same day (4/12/13).

She was given a scanned copy of her original signed receipt and a receipt for the $102.80 credit.

Despite our best efforts, the patient has been unable to understand the billing and insurance process. On 4/12/2013, she came to our office twice, yelling and using derogatory language. She continued to use profanity in front of staff and patients and was eventually escorted out of our clinic by staff.

On the date of this letter I spoke with the patient and she acknowledged that she had received her refund.
