Review: I experienced a lockout in Philadelphia this past Sunday, May 19, and called the company at 3:17 pm. I provided the representative with the year and model of my car and was provided an estimate of $54 - $25 for service and $29 to unlock the car. The locksmith arrived around 4:00 pm and spent at most 3-4 minutes using a standard car lockout kit (inflatable balloon to open a crack in the door, and a gripping mechanism to reach and pull open the door lock). Once finished, the locksmith said that the service would be $160 - $25 for service and $135 to open the car. When I explained that the quoted rate was $54, the driver said that the price was increased because "the security system" made it more difficult - this despite the fact that his process was completely mechanical and had absolutely nothing to do with a security system, and that this was a Chevrolet with no special security system. When I said that this was unacceptable, the locksmith said that if I did not sign a work order and pay the $160, he would call the police. I felt I had no choice and provided my signature and credit card. I feel that this locksmith took advantage of me when I was most vulnerable - after waiting 45 minutes in the rain, locked out of my car - and grossly overcharged me without any reasonable justification. After returning home, I did more research and it became more clear that I was scammed. The driver used the standard car lockout kit and procedure to unlock the car, that no special techniques were involved, and that virtually all vehicles (including Chevrolets) are unlocked in the same manner, regardless of any "security system". The going market rate for lockout is $100 less than what I paid. This type of scam is unfortunately common among some locksmiths (see [redacted]. I attempted to contact the business several times and asked to speak with the owner but never got a call back.Desired Settlement: I desire a refund of my payment.
