Multi-Service [redacted] was given my name by another customer of mine, [redacted], who told me he referred 2 other contractors in the past who had similar circumstances with this customer. I gave an initial bid over the phone of 1,000.00 to pour a 3x50 sidewalk above ground, told him I would come by in a couple weeks to verify I could do it for that price. I arrived at 8:00 am on a Monday for assessment. Told [redacted] the price would be 1,535.00 due to the fact he wanted the sidewalk dug 4 inches into the ground. The price reflected driving into his yard with a concrete buggy which he okay'ed. Told him price would be more if we had to wheel barreled across yard. He agreed. He also agreed to us leaving the dirt we dug off to the side of the walkway for no charge to haul off. Plus he added a retaining wall on one side of his driveway that was not included in the price over the phone. A later job of re-surfacing his other slab was discussed, but I said I would evaluate it after this job was complete and gave him no price as of yet. We started that same day about 10 am, completed the job at about 11 pm that same night. Due to the number of oak tree roots we had to dig thru, it took about 3 hours longer than anticipated, which I should have charged extra for but did not. The concrete pour went great and the finishing turned out beautiful. The problem did not arise until I was late to remove the form boards the day I said I would. I told him I would be by after 4 or 5 and I did not make it until 8 pm. I got held up on another job due to rain and my phone had been lost, so I could not call him to let him know. When we arrived to his house he came outside while we were unloading tools, stood for a moment and went back into his house before I was done at my truck. We removed all form boards from sidewalk and retaining wall, loaded the truck, cleaned the yard, then we left the job. When I get home my wife tells me both [redacted] and his wife had called saying I had ripped them off, stole from them, and left their yard dirty, which are lies. I immediately texted them to tell them I would not be doing any work for them in the future. This is all documented on my text messaging. The customer who had recommended me to [redacted] will speak on my behalf if need be and they are friends.
