Review: My son took his 2004 Ford F250 diesel truck to [redacted] Diesel when it suddenly quit running on 7/30/14. He had it towed there and as I was out of town I told him to wait for my return before doing anything. They "diagnosed" the problem and told him that it would be a whopping $6500 MINIMUM - and up to $11000 to do the job "properly" and bullet proof the engine.
Upon my return to town the following Monday, I went to this establishment where I was told that the motor was mostly trashed. Full of sludge, someone put a faulty EGR on it, the motor had to be torn down and all of these things addressed including new head gaskets (replaced and new on 4/1/14) amongst other things. The rather imposing service writer named [redacted] assured me that the motor was full of sludge and that there were major issues that had to be addressed.
I decided to get a second opinion.
I arranged for AAA to pick up the truck to take it elsewhere and was informed that they had already proceeded to undertake the first $3800 worth of work that they said my son authorized. He in fact did not. He told them to await my arrival back in town. Of course [redacted] did his best to call my son a liar and tell me that it was authorized though no signed documents were produced. For this trouble, they handed me a bill for $1000 - 9 hours of their shop time I didn't authorize times their $110 an hour shop rate. I spoke with the owner, who is much more agreeable to talk to than the imposing [redacted], and he felt he was doing me a favor after much haggling to split that cost with me so I had to pay them $500 to tell me a pack of lies about a pile of work that this truck didn't need.
I took the truck to another reputable certified mechanic and he enlightened me that no "engine full of sludge" existed and that the high pressure oil pump needed replacing. He took care of that and I was out the door for $1700 - not "a minimum of $6500..."
These people are liars and thieves in my opinion. If my son didn't have me to flush these kind of people out he would have been some $5000 poorer. This borders on criminal in my mind as I have 4 pages of estimate from them indicating it needed to be pretty much rebuilt.
This truck has 82000 miles on it and is in very clean condition.
That I had to pay $500 to have these people try and sell me a bill of goods does not settle well with me and I will do everything I can to warn the public of this dishonest and unethical business.Desired Settlement: Refund of my $500 "diagnosis" fee -

Revdex.com, Case # [redacted]
To whom it may concern:
On July 29th 2014 [redacted] had his 2004 F-250 Ford truck towed into [redacted] Diesel, Inc. The
following morning [redacted], Our
Service Advisor, called [redacted] to discuss with him the issues
with his vehicle. [redacted] obtained verbal authorization from [redacted] to proceed
with the diagnosing of his vehicle. The estimate at that time was $223.52
(incl. tax). We verified that the vehicle had an internal high pressure
injection oil leak but, we needed further diagnostic time to locate the source
of the leak.
On July 30th, 2014 [redacted] obtained verbal authorization from [redacted]
for disassembly of the engine at an additional cost the revised total at this
time was $921.35. We located the root failure, which was a bad high pressure
injection oil pump (HPOP), but on disassembly of the engine we found the EGR
cooler (that appeared to be a recent replacement) was full of sludge on the
coolant side which was an indication of poor maintenance or an extreme amount
of sealer had been added to the cooling system. This was cause for concern due
to the fact that the Ford 6.0L diesel has problems in this area in its design.
[redacted] had called [redacted] to explain the technician’s findings and our recommendations.
At this time [redacted] informed [redacted] that he only had resources to repair the
minimum, which was the HPOP, regulator and control sensor which totaled
$3907.12 (incl. tax). [redacted],
at this time, obtained verbal authorization from [redacted] and we proceeded with
the repair. [redacted] did discuss with [redacted] the failure common to the 6.0L diesel
and some proven products developed that are available to correct the weaknesses
in this engine design to make it very reliable.
But, as I mentioned previously, [redacted] informed [redacted] that he was in no
position to consider any of these options.
At [redacted] Diesel we feel it is our obligation to inform Diesel
owners about their vehicle’s needs.
After starting the repair, [redacted]’s father came in to the shop ranting to [redacted] how his son would
never authorize any repair and implying that [redacted] was a liar.
Why are we even dealing or talking to [redacted]’s father? All of the claims that [redacted]’s father is making are not based
on the facts. All of our communications were with [redacted] NOT his dad.
I, [redacted] (owner), discussed the situation with [redacted]’s
father in great length and we came to a “gentlemen’s agreement” of $500.00
(which was 50% of the authorized invoice amount) and we shook
hands on it. Where is the
HONOR? This man has never contacted me
since we made the agreement. And where is [redacted]?? The one we had been
dealing with.
[redacted] Diesel has been doing business in Spokane for over 30 years
we have a strong customer base, which I believe speaks for itself. We did not
change the way we do business or take advantage of [redacted].
The bottom line is that [redacted] verbally authorized [redacted]
Diesel, Inc. to perform the above stated work to his vehicle. What conversations he and his father had that
led to his father’s misconception of the situation we at [redacted] Diesel are
unaware of.
The [redacted]s owe us here at [redacted] Diesel, Inc. an apology for
their unwarranted slandering!
Respectfully,
[redacted] Diesel Inc.
