We received the above mentioned complaint for Ms*** After pulling the records we found that the transaction in question is for a vehicle that was purchased by *** *** As a part of that transaction a warranty was purchased that required a credit card for monthly payments for the
service contractThe credit card used for payment belonged to Ilona Abele and she signed the authorization portion of the documentJust above her signature it states “I authorize charges to my credit card account for the purchase of the *** *** or *** *** Service Contract Corporation *** in accordance with this agreement.” This is an authorized transaction by herThe only way to stop the charge would be for *** to cancel the policyMsAbele’s money would not be refunded, but future payments would stopI hope this clears any confusionThank you, *We have copies of the signed document in our possession if needed

My son, husband and I visited Davis Honda yesterday, 26Dec2015, hoping to purchase a used Honda for my son. I have long standing relationship with this dealership going back to when it was Willis Honda, purchasing my first new car in 1990, a new Honda Accord. My youngest son has made 2 new car purchases since 2013, both were successful encounters.
Synopsis of yesterday's encounter:
My son had his own financing and was willing to consider competitive financing offered by the dealership. The maximum cost he could afford was fixed. We were looking for used Honda [redacted] no older than 2010, $11,000, less than 30,000 miles. The [redacted] we looked at were 2012-2014. Most had window sticker prices between $13k-$17k. We were shown a 2012 [redacted], White, clean 26,000miles. Very nice. We were told the price would start at $12,000. The finance person (I cannot find his name or photo on this webpage - a [redacted] gentleman) presented us with additional fees added on to this $12k:
1. Deduction of loyalty discount (adding $1000 back to the cost) because we did not have a Davis Honda vehicle to offer as a trade. They said the price of $12k they spoke of included this loyalty discount, which has nothing to do with being a repeat customer or recommending friends and family.
2. The pre-owned certification/warranty sticker on the window indicates the opportunity to purchase pre-owned certification/warranty at the price of $1000. This would purchase 1 year of bumper to bumper warranty and extend the remaining factory warranty from 2 more years to 5 more years - which they spin this as a 7 year warranty, as if you are purchasing 7 years.
3. We would need to pay [redacted] for the car having been cleaned and detailed. This fee was non-negotiable. Apparently this service is not part of the Davis Honda preparation for selling a used car.
4. [redacted] Documentation fee. We requested an explanation of what this fee included and we were given a dubious response that equated to this being a non-negotiable fee.
5. $160 MVC fee. We asked why this fee was so high and why it wasn't part of the documentation fee. Again, a dubious response that equated to the fee being non-negotiable (Blah-bla-blah).
6. taxes - truly unavoidable fees
In addition to the crazy, up-pricing, we were made to wait for hours while they goofed off saying they were trying to compete with the financing my son already had. This is a usual practice for Davis. They believe keeping you in the dealership for hours benefits their profits somehow. I think they believe it makes the customer desperate. When we refused to pay the price asked, we were told they did not know if they had any cars on the lot in our price range, we would have to walk the lot. We walked onto the lot and into our cars and drove away. We spent about 4.5 hours here.
In the end, what they wanted was a down payment. My son had a trade in vehicle but no extra money for a down payment. They did not approach the conversation honestly saying he would need a down payment for the deal to work. They danced around the wording. We had already looked of other cars at a dealership down the road prior to coming to Davis. We went to [redacted] and purchased a 2013 [redacted] with 21,000 miles for $14,000 total, that included the trade and a small down payment. The entire transaction took less than 2 hours. It was one of the most pleasant car buying experiences I've ever been a part of. Thank you Eli and Team!!
