Review: I spent $1400 to screen in a patio for a dog; I was told it was pet proof by the owner. Dog easily went through in three places. I have offered to pay more to reinforce or really pet proof it, but they keep stalling, are rude, and want me to pay for repairing it first.Desired Settlement: I want it to be pet proof or refund my money so I can have someone else do it right.

Response:

We indeed installed a beautiful screen room for [redacted] on August 16th, 2013 and by her own words “wow this is so much nicer than I anticipated” and “the quality of the products used in this room are so much more than I expected”. There are 4 witnesses to the statements she said that day.We build beautiful screen rooms and our screen product is both child and pet resistant, which means the fabric is resistant to tearing and scratches when pets scratch on it. We do not build pet kennels we are a Sun Control and Security product company. A screen can in fact be pushed out if given enough force put to it; which her large dog has done. Pets need to be trained to behave in a home and not left unattended when it is known they do not behave. We let [redacted] know that we are working on getting material to help her with her situation and would indeed get with her as soon as we found a solution to her problem. It has been only 6 business days to date since we were at her home to repair the damage that her dog had done by pushing out the screen in a couple of places. The service charge of $75.00 has not been paid by her even though she agreed to the charge when the service call was scheduled. It takes time to find the right material for what she wants and she needs to be somewhat more patient with us to find the right material for her.[redacted] has not ever been rude to her; he only explained that the screen room was just that and not a kennel safe for her pet. She has misinterpreted what he has and is explaining to her. We are doing our best to help her out with her issues if we can. Her contract is for a screen room, which is added to this response, and that is what we built for her, a beautiful screen room.[redacted] has called, 10/15/13, her 4 times today and texted her once to let her know that we would like to meet with her on the 21st @ 10AM to go over the product that we feel would meet her needs, with no reply from her until 3 PM at which time she stated she was out of town and would let us know later if this would work for her. We are a very reputable company and work with our customers to make sure they are completely satisfied before we ever take payment. She did pay for her room the day of install and did not let us know of any problem until September 30th when she called in. She was scheduled for the repair done by her dog as soon as we could work her in our schedule; which was 4 business days from her call in to us.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The response is inaccurate and even deceiving.

I will respond to some of their points, but the main issue is this: I did not "misinterpret" anything. The company represented to me that the screen enclosure was "pet proof." They knew that I was going to put a border collie out there, and we even discussed that he might get excited about passing animals and so I wanted the enclosure to be somewhat sturdy. When the owner said that dogs could not rip the screen, I asked if they could get the screen out easily - he said it would "be hard." In fact, a child could push the screen out, and it is certainly NOT that the dog is large, misbehaves, etc. He is a medium sized, well trained pet. (Insulting someone's pet is not helpful.)

So, I ask: How do you say something is petproof, or even "pet resistant", when a child or small dog can push right through it? What good is a petproof screen when it come out easily and leaves a gaping hole to go through? How does a company advertise and promise a petproof concept when it is no such thing? That is like saying that a medicine bottle is childproof, when the lid is such, but making the bottle out of paper or something a child can tear through easily!

A few other responses: I did say the appearance was nice when they first put it in (it was), but that is irrelevant to my motive in purchasing and to my complaint. I tried to pay the man who came to repair the screen, even though I did not think I should, but he would not take the money. When I called the owner to find out what was going on, he was condescending and rude. They have been much more concerned with their $75 repair charge than fixing my problem in good faith - until I filed this Revdex.com complaint.

The owner did call me 4 times today, and texted once, but I have been at work, in meetings and on calls, and got back to his office and him at my first opportunity. I knew they were trying to build a record of "we called 4 times!" They certainly were not so diligent when I was in a bind over the last few weeks. And, yes, I work in San Diego next week and they insisted on coming out on one particular day when I was gone to "discuss approach and price." I asked them to give me the suggested solution, price, and timing of the fix over the phone or by email...I finally have that, but it was hard to get from them.

The owner did apologize for being unprofessional, so I am trying to work this out. However, their proposed solution is to put wooden boards over half of the windows and obstruct the view, with me paying $500 more! And, the response they have given to the Revdex.com just aggravates me further and does nothing towards resolution. Nevertheless, I am going to see if they can do grates instead of boards for the same price. If they cared as much about their customers as they say, and cared before the customer had to file a Revdex.com complaint, they should have offered something at less or no cost before this. But, I am trying, honestly and sincerely. I just do not like being lied to, or having facts misrepresented to cover those lies.

Regards,

I called Day Star Screens for an estimate to have my porch screened in. Larry came out showed us his high quality product and gave us the estimate, he was very professional and patient with explaining all of our questions.About 5 weeks later 5 guys came out installed the screens in less then 6 hrs. It turned out perfect we couldn't be more happier! Love the fact that the workers used their own toilette, cleaned after them self and had good manners!! I will recommend Day Star Screen to anyone!!

Review: On 8/12/2013 we entered into a non-revocable contract with Day Star Screes, LLC to have a roller shutter installed at our residence. On 8/30/2013 [redacted] who said he was one of the owners, arrived and told us that due to a change in the cost of the material and the need for additional work to complete the job, our price would go from $888 to $1600-$1800. I told [redacted] not to start the job and that I considered this a breach of contract.

I have contacted their office by telephone twice and sent them a Registered Letter on 9/11/2013 reiterating our agreement and no one from Day Star has replied in any form to my request for satisfaction of our contract.

I have our copy of the signed contract with them which stipulates "This Agreement shall become a contract when accepted by the purchaser and signed by an authorized representative of the seller. Purchaser acknowledges that this document, including the terms and conditions, constitutes the entire agreement with seller and may not be modified without permission of both parties."Desired Settlement: Simply to install the roller shutter for the price agreed to in the non-revocable contract.

Response:

On 8/13/13 [redacted] went to Mr. [redacted]’s home to talk of a purchase of a roll shutter from him, there was a verbal agreement between the two parties, [so in fact the day the

contract was signed it was not in effect due to the verbal stipulations of both

parties. ], for two things : One, from

Mr. [redacted], that he would need an HOA approval and, Two, from [redacted], that Mr. [redacted] was informed that [redacted]

would need to come out to look at the job to make sure there was nothing else

required to get the job done and that the price could change. When [redacted] went out and informed him that

there would be additional costs because of the installation and material costs

he declined the new total. No money was ever taken at any time for this and no

monetary damage has ever done to him We regret that the costs have changed for

this installation and would be more than happy to install the product for him

at the new and fair pricing of the

materials needed to get the job completed. Mr. [redacted] from the first phone call to us

after [redacted] had been out to his home threatened to call his attorney thus; all further

conversations were ended with him.

Review: In March I scheduled a screen installation with Day Star Screens. They pushed back the installation 3 times due to over booking. At the beginning of April it was done. I called to give a credit card but the office manager told me she wanted me to see the screens first. I got home and upon inspection there were many flaws in the work including holes, loose material, and missing pieces. I sent an e mail to the company with photos attached that evening. I called the next week and they were too booked to come fix it. I called two weeks later and they were too booked to fix it. I am busy, I let it go. Last week I got a call from Shirley (office manager at Day Star Screens) she said she needed payment. I told her I was not satisfied and she said someone could come fix the slider screen. I said there were other issues and told her I sent her an e mail. She said she didn't have the e mail. The owner Doc called me back to tell me he had found the e mail and they needed to schedule a time for someone to come out and inspect the screens to determine what needed to happen with them. We set up a tentative appointment because he didn't have a calendar available so we set it up for Tuesday July 1 with a confirmation call pending. I did not get a call so I assumed they were blowing me off again and I went about my day July 1st. When I arrived home at noon on July 1st my screens were gone. I have an 8 foot block fence with a padlocked gate. Employees of Day Star Screens jumped my fence, took my screens, and when I called to find out what happened the office manager told me that she didn't know anything and they weren't my screens because I haven't paid for them. This company entered my residence without my permission, without me being present, and stole property from my home. They have acted inappropriately for the duration of this process. We are now going on 3 months and they took my sun screens on the hottest day of the year.Desired Settlement: I want my screening back and I am insisting on a considerable discount due to behavior of the staff, lack of acknowledgment and inappropriate handling of this situation.

Company has a booth at [redacted]...advertises a security door for $188.00. Left information at Market for follow up. No follow up for 4 days. Called on 2nd day and made an appointment. Had to wait 13 days. Gentleman came for measurement. Stated only the $300.00 would work on standard door. Asked about $188 door...said it didn't seal and all the bugs would come in...and what good is a screen door that lets all the bugs in? Asked him about discrepancy...initially said door was in stock...lady at shop said it would take 6 weeks. to order...gentleman said no 2 weeks...obviously will look further for door

I wanted to install a sliding security door on my patio door to make sure my grandson could not get out by the pool. Day Star screens came and gave me an estimate which I agreed to, then about 6 weeks later they installed the very expensive door. The bars on the door were so far apart my grandson could climb right through it! Not only that, but anyone could reach their hand in from the outside and unlock the door. The owner treated me terribly and accused me of ordering the wrong door. He finally came up with a solution to rivet mesh to the door. After weeks of waiting, his son and nephew came and installed the mesh. The door now does not let air flow through it and it is VERY noisy when opening and closing. Also the owner charged me an extra $100 to fix his mistake. Definitely think twice before you use this company!
