Dbl Bar H Construction Reviews (1)

Review: I contracted with Mr [redacted] with 888 Ranch (fence and horsemanship co. ) located in Rathdrum Idaho to remove and replace pasture fencing. He quoted a price of 850.00 plus "materials that I was to provide" to include the tear down of old fencing, replace with new fencing and remove old fencing from property. I had previously had him do work for me and at that time he was working under the name of DBL Bar H Construction with a man named [redacted]. He and his then partner fenced in 2 pastures for me. He told me that he would garuntee his work for one year. that was in 2011. This year when I needed more fencing done he quoted me for the job after he had come out and I showed him what needed done. When he did finally show up he was rushed saying that he had another job in Wyoming. He then started the job, worked for about 5 hours and left. He came back about a week later and brought with him a man that wearing an arm brace and his girlfriend [redacted]. They started working on the fencing once again. That evening he came in and said that he had to leave to go to Wyoming to work on the job but that he would be back to finish the fencing. He then asked for the money which I gave him in cash because he needed gas money and he signed a receipt writing on it he would be back in 2 weeks to finish. After 3 or4 weeks of no contact I called only to be told that he was not sure how long he would be gone. I emailed him and this is what I got You know , I have thought about how you told me your highlanders went thru the fence without the hotwire up. So those strands that are not tight where they went thru are not my problem. Also I gave you a discount for repeat business and you still knocked me down on the price. You agreed to get materials for the job. In that you didn't. Get me enough concrete for all the supporting posts. So there was no guarantee put on that job. When we contracted with him he said he was still doing a one year guarantee, I would not have gave him the job if not.Desired Settlement: I want the money that was paid to him for shoddy work that was not completed returned to me and no further contact with this individual.

Response:

I did go do this job for her. and before accepting a check at the end of the job I had ann come out and do a walk around on the job that was done. she was satisfied with the job hence why she gave me the remaining balance. also I was going to go back and do some other work but it was all gratis. and when I got back from wyoming I had a couple messages from mrs waterman that her scottish highlander cattle had gone through the fence. she agreed to put up the hot wire after paying the remaining balance. so that her cattle wouldnt walk through the fence. by her not doing so resulted in my fence getting destroyed. my guarantee is for crafstmanship not acts of god weather and animal deprevation. once cattle go through a fence that wouldnt stop them in the best of condition like this one was the guarantee is void. especially once final payment has been made.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 9241868, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

First of all I did not do a walk through as he said in his response. He came to the house, was saying that he had to go to Wyoming and that he would be back in 2 weeks to finish work, that he had the fencing in well enough to hold the cattle, this was in the evening. The work in question was not gratis as he claims but actual work that was supposed to be finished per the agreement with Mr. Michael downs and myself. Mrs. [redacted] and her sister in law were here that day visiting and can witness the conversation. He gave me a receipt for the cash paid not check and on the receipt he wrote that he would be back in 2 weeks to finish the job this was on 6/9/2012. As for the cattle getting out, that is incorrect. My 35 pound highland calf got out because the fencing was not stretched correctly and sagging in one area, I had to put in fence stays to correct this . I did call and tell him that the one area needed corrected. He said because a 35 lb animal got through it ruined his fence? If a barb wire fence is correctly installed the cattle will not go through usually. It happened the one time and after I put up fence stays to keep the wire from sagging so badly it has not happened since. I would like to be able to send pictures to show the work that was done. He did not remove the the old fence wire like he had said he would, the two gates he hung where not correct. One only swings in because he mis-measured it so that it catches against the post. The other does not latch because again it was measured improperly and now has to be chained to close it. He was supposed to install the fencing from the barn to the the existing fence and install another gate to close the pasture. This was supposedly going to be done when he returned from his trip,

Response:

first off you show me a 35 pound 4 to 6 month old scottish highlander calf that is healthy. I call bs. but since he was the size of a dog that would explain how he got out of the fence. how many barb wire fences do you see that keep dogs in. so I guess that just goes to show that I build pasture barb wire fence that wont keep dogs in or out. on the gates I have witnesses that were there that can prove miss waterman walked down saw both gates and was satisfied at that time. its not my fault that later on down the road she decided she didnt like how it work and wanted me to change it for free. everytime I would go to anns she wanted me to little things for free and I would . but I will not now haul off the old fence materials for free. you take a measurement of her pasture and mutiply it by 1.85 and that is what I generally charge. but with her knocking me down on the price saying oh well I really cant afford that much and well I really need this done and coluld you do it for this amount whiny attitude. I took pity on her and gave her a break on the price. but that wasnt so she could then short me on materials and then say that its my fault the fence is the way it is. because her beef walkedthrou gh it and I have a hard time believing that a animal the size of an adult blue heeler did as much damage to the fence as what she is claiming. sorry it just doesnt all add up. sincerely randy jones
