DC Concrete

Review: DC Concrete came to our home to give us an estimate on a correcting existing cracks and resurfacing a concrete sidewalk to our front door and a side porch. Derrick Thompson was also to pour a small step up to the side porch. He figured out a price and said the job "would only take a couple of days." He gave us a price of $1,995 and asked for 50% up front. I wrote him a $1,000 check and he left. He said he would return the next Tuesday to start. Derrick wanted to use a swirl texture on the concrete and he returned that day to show us photos. We got less and less comfortable with the idea of a pattern on our walkways without seeing it first so we asked for an address where he'd done this before so we could see it in person.

Derrick said he would return the following Tuesday to start. He never showed up or called. This happened for three consecutive Tuesdays. One day unexpectedly he came and power washed the front sidewalk and left. A week or so later, without notice, he came and poured the step. I was home that day and again asked him for an address. He told us on two or three occasions he would get an address to us. My husband spoke with him and he told my husband that he would return early in the morning and drop off an address. When we looked outside the next morning for the paper with the address, instead we saw that he had actually put the swirl pattern into our step. My husband went out and scraped it off as best he could. That was the last time we saw Derrick.

My husband called Derrick and asked for a copy of the proposal and told him that we had to come to a very clear understanding of what he was to do. Derrick never gave us anything, he didn't return to clean up the mess he made on our driveway and on our lawn. He didn't even remove the wood that he had used to pour the step. We had hired Derrick around 15 - 20 years ago and had a wonderful experience. We were blindsided by this. My husband has called and he doesn't return calls. He took our $1,000 and left us with a power washed sidewalk and an unprofessional looking step. After our encounter with DC Concrete I looked online to see if anyone else had a similar experience. Sure enough, I saw a comment about a job he did that sounded like our experience. He didn't complete the project, left a mess for the homeowner to clean up and did not refund the money he took for a job he didn't fulfill. We are now going to have to pay someone to correct what Derrick left behind.Desired Settlement: DC Concrete needs to refund our money.
