Review: Roof on my rental-
Called D&D Roofing- requesting roof to be done. He came- I wrote check for $3200.00 - I picked Shingle Col 01 Nov-1-13 He said he would order right away? I waited 4-6-8 wks- he called said he had a really nice? light? brown -- If light fine! but dark ugly brown- He apparently had not ordered the grey-- He called -- wanted the rest of his money before the job done! I instantly had a doubt! He had put shingles over shingles - had not gotten a permit from the city- there are soft spots - still a leak - called him - I have sent a certified letter- no response!
Will meet with him on Wed.19 Feb.
I asked for my roof to be done!
I have asked for contract - bids - warranty for my building done in March 2013 + the rental - He has said he would but nothing yet. He did not get a city permit for my other building either!Desired Settlement: The roof to be done right!

At this time I am only going to answer the accusations.
At the time of writing the check we discussed how the roof was to be done. The roof only had one layer
on it so I figured my price to recover existing roof, removing only the rough areas. This is commonly
done and is accepted by the City of Farmington, as well as the manufacturer of the shingles. The
shingles carry a limited lifetime warranty no matter what the color. The customer picked a light gray at
that time. The color was ordered and was in stock at the time the job was started. This can be verified
with [redacted]. Before starting the roof, I had looked at houses on both
sides of the customer's house and they were both similar to the color she picked. I thought it would
look nice to have a different color and recommended the other color which is a mix of white and
medium brown. I have pictures of her roof and will try to send you copies. When I recommended this
color, she agreed saying she was going to paint the house soon.
The weather delayed us, as we had a storm that left ice and snow on the roof, especially in the shaded
areas. Cold temperatures make it hard for shingles to lie down smooth, so I preferred to let weather
and temperatures improve before starting job. When I called to coiled and furnish warranty the job
was complete and the men were cleaning up the job site which would have been finished within 1-2
hours at the most. To be fair, the men left some trash in the renter's trash holders which they should
not have done but the site was cleaned up.
As far as the permit is concerned, I was out of town when we started the job but I called the permit
office and told them we were starting and would get the permit when I returned to town. [redacted] at the
permit office said that would be fine and I did obtain the permit when I returned. This can be verified by
calling [redacted] at [redacted]. l have enclosed copies of the permit and the approval of the job when it
was finished. I called for inspection of the job on 1/22/14. Both Chief Inspector [redacted] and [redacted]
inspected the job. They asked me for her phone number and called and talked to her in my presence on
1/22/14. They told her the job was complete. They only recommended a couple of minor changes to
the flashing which took no more than 10 minutes to change. They told her it was fine to lay over a roof
with only one layer, and that soft spots were common on roofs of that era when they used plywood.
They did not recommend any changes to the decking.
After small flashing repairs, the roof was inspected again and passed on final inspection. This was also
sent to you.
After a storm, there was a leak in her roof, but not in an area that we had worked on. There were two areas which were not done by us. One was in the rear of the home and the other on the front porch that has no roofing, only plywood. This is the area that leaked. I spoke to renter and he told me the other areas under the roof we had repaired did not leak. I have photos to verify this. I do have concerns about one area above the roof that we worked on as siding is bad and has cracks which could allow water to leak in.
The reason I could not respond to her letter., is that it was sent to the incorrect address. I believe that a
person that works [redacted] and must have gotten it confused.
We met on 2/19/14 and came to an agreement as to settle our issues.
