Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2017/07/07) */
On July 13,2016 the [redacted]'s 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor was towed to Stan's Inc. Upon our check out and scan test we found the mass air flow sensor was malfunctioning and with a Bore Scope we found carbin and...

oil sludge build up in the intake. We repaired the mass air flow sensor, the air filter and used a seafoam treatment on the intake system(used to break up the build up in the intake). After the repairs were complete, the vehicle was test driven and showed no signs of problems. No codes returned and the vehicle was turned over to the customer. We advised the [redacted]'s that because of lack of maintenence the Timing belt would need to be replaced and the worn motor mount could be done at the same time. An appointment was set to have repairs done on September 1,2016. On July 28,2016 the [redacted]'s Mitsubishi Endeavor returned for a runability issue. With a scan test- we found random missfires and leaking valve covers. We informed the [redacted]'s the spark plugs would need to be changed and when this is done the valve cover gaskets should be done at the same time because the intake has to come off to replace the spark plugs. Common cause of intake build up is poor EGR flow or exhaust blow by from bad rings. Once we removed the intake(at this time a more thorough cleaning was done on the intake). We then changed the spark plugs and valve cover gaskets. with all of these things taking place-We presumed the vehicle suffered from LACK OF MAINTENENCE. On September1,2016 the [redacted]'s brought the 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor to Stan's Inc. This was a preset appointment for the timing belt and front motor mount. At this time the timing belt and front motor mount were both replaced using the information from Alldata which outlines the proper tools to be used and procedures to properly perform the repairs. After the repairs were complete the Endeavor was started with NO evidence of missfires or timing issues. If a vehicle has the timing off or misaligned-damage or missfire or no start would occur. At this time the vehicle started with no fail, was ran to operating temperature then taken on a test drive and found to be in GOOD running state. The vehicle was then shut down, scan tested to check for codes. No codes were found. Restarted with NO fail. At this time the [redacted]'s were called to pick up their vehicle. They picked up their Mitsubishi Endeavor on September1,2016 with no complaints until December 7,2016 when all of this came to light. At this time we at Stan's Inc. asked to look at the Misubishi Endeavor to find out what failed and was told he took the vehicle to other shops and sold the vehicle for scrap. Had we had an opportunity to examine the vehicle to determine failure- Had it been on our behalf we could have had it warrenteed for repair. At this time we contacted our insurance company to submit a claim on his behalf. Our Insurance company is Westfield Insurance. [redacted] Casualty Claim Specialist Office: XXX-XXX-XXXXxXXXXXXX Fax: XXX-XXX-XXXX Mobile: XXX-XXX-XXXX The insurance claim specialist found No evidence of fault on Stan's behalf. So the insurance denied claim. We at Stan's are more than open and transparent to help Mr. [redacted] but with no vehicle to examine or repair we were at a standstill. If any more information is needed please contact us at: Stan's [redacted]-Owner) [redacted] XXXXX (XXX)-XXX-XXXX Thank-you for your time.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 10, 2017/07/11) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
While some of which Mr. [redacted] stated was true, there are many things he states that are at best presumptuous. His first presumption is that I am unaware when it comes to automobile maintenance and repair. I am not a licensed Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) licensed professional but I have worked on my own vehicles my whole life. I have repaired/maintained vehicle most systems from engine, carburetion, fuel injection, exhaust, brake, air conditioning, body work, cooling, electrical, transmission, and suspension. I do not have the time to repair my vehicles so I don't mind paying reliable locally owned repair shops. One thing Mr. [redacted] conveniently left out was after returning to his shop several times and still having problems, I took my vehicle to a different local shop on September 7th ( I believe. I have a receipt. ) and they stated that the engine was in failure. I contacted an employee at Stan's about my concerns and told him that I would return when my mechanic looked it over and that was in September. Due to lack of trust in Stan's, I had a ASE certified and Mitsubishi trained technician look at the vehicle and upon disassembling the engine, he found and photographed proof of the timing belt loosening failure. Mr. [redacted] (ASE) stated that with all of his experience and training the obvious fault fails on Stan's poor work. And when Mr. [redacted] quotes Alldata; "which outlines the proper tools to be used and procedures to properly perform the repairs." He doesn't claim that process was followed. He hasn't mentioned the employee that performed the repairs and his credentials. Additionally, Mr. [redacted] had no desire to find fault with Stan's repairs because his company would be liable to pay damages. I have the documentation and photographic evidence and I have tried to avoid litigation so I was going to try and contact the B.B.B. to assist me in convincing Mr. [redacted] and Mr. [redacted] to do the professional thing by attempting to make this right. While Mr. [redacted] claims transparency all he has offered is excuses and denial.
Taken advantage of,

Final Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2017/07/24) */
The facts of the matter are as they stand. Stan's DID NOT have the oppurtunity to try to make amends. Because Mr. [redacted] "scrapped his vehicle". Stan's would have done all we could to make the customer happy had we found fault was from our neglagence. We then referred this to our insurance company and was found not to be at fault. Upon speaking with others in the automotive repair field(A.S.E.and Non A.S.E. certified) technicians, mechanics, service writers and repairmen all have the same view that this type of damage does not occur months after the repair. If any issue was to reoccur with this type of repair No start or Damage to pistons or valve train would occur immediately upon FIRST start up. So in conclusion in light of the information provided and the Lack of physical evidence and with the way this situation unfolded and the way Mr. [redacted] disposal of the vehicle. I cannot justifiably conclude any fault would be on my behalf. Thank-you for your time. Stan's Inc. [redacted]-Owner)
