Decano Construction Reviews (4)

I would never recommend this contractor to anyone. Dino Davis took complete advantage of us. We are elderly. My husband is 86 and I am 78. My husband can no longer do the maintenance of the house that he once did. we needed a retaining wall replaced, walkway replaced along with removing existing porch pad and replacing with a bigger porch pad. Did not want the work done until end of September or beginning of October. We signed contract July 22, 2019. Called a few days later and said that a dumpster was on the way and they would start tomorrow. My daughter and grandchildren were coming the next day and he knew that. Never did what we contracted to do. He never removed the porch pad and put 5'' of concrete on top of my old pad. I now have a pad that is almost 12'' thick. No contractor will remove the pad for fear of damaging our foundation. When it rains, there is water that comes under our screen door and onto our threshold because there is only 1/4'' between the pad and the bottom of our screen door. It keeps me up at night!

Please review all documents that pertain to complaint .I truly am a contactor that has no pride issues nor ego issues. If I am in the wrong I truly will admit and fix problem. That is my character in this business.
Thank you.

1'his letter is in response to your case # [redacted] filed on March 22. 2014. Decano Construction
formally requests that the case be closed and certification of the Revdex.com be awarded.
First. I would like to address several inaccuracies contained in the consumer's original complaint
as follows:
1) The customer knew that Decano Construction was a general contractor. The work
discussed at the first meeting with the customer included numerous tasks that involved
carpentry, painting, laying block as well as concrete work.
2) 1 never discussed on-site (or off-site) testing of the concrete with the customer. What was
stated by me was the fact that the same concrete rated at 4000psi was used for both
sidewalks and driveways.
3) The customer stated in their complaint the crack was primarily caused by insufficient
gravel. The fact is that nearly two tons of gravel were delivered and spread as needed per
contract stipulations.
4) The customer stated in the complaint that only three inches of concrete was provided.
This is not accurate as an average of four inches was provided as recommended through
standard trade practice.
5) The customer stated in the complaint that Decano Construction tried to bait them into
having additional work performed. The fact is that the customer set up the appointment
to discuss the additional work.

The work was started without any deposit required and was completed as specified in the
contract (attached) on October 23. 2013. After the customer approved of the work performed,
full payment was received. At that point, the customer stated that they would call back in the
Spring when they were ready to proceed with the additional work discussed on October 9. 2013
during our first meeting.
Mrs. [redacted] contacted Decano Construction on March 14. 2014 and made an appointment for
March 16. 2014 to discuss the additional work that she wanted to complete. When 1 arrived to
discuss this work, the customer began to complain about the prior work performed. After
inspection of the affected area, the following remedies were provided by Decano Construction to
resolve the issue:
1) Adding a concrete curer / sealer to the area of complaint at no charge to the customer;
this would help seal and protect the concrete.
2) Putting high performance, self-leveling concrete caulk into the stress crack at no cost to
the customer: this would seal the crack and prevent further damage.
3) Saw-cut a section of the driveway approximately 11 feet x 10 feet and install a new
concrete pad. The customer would be responsible for the cost of the concrete and Decano
Construction would absorb the cost of labor for removal and installation of new concrete.
Furthermore, Decano agreed to also absorb the concrete cost with completion of the
additional work requested by the customer.
The customer refused all normal remedies for fixing the cracked concrete, but instead insisted
upon an entirely new driveway.
Due to the fact that the customer has: 1) refused all normal remedies, and 2) made inaccurate
and. at the very least, slanderous (if not liable) statements on record. Decano Construction
formally requests that the case be closed and certification of the Revdex.com be awarded.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

This letter is in response to your email sent to me on July 31, 2014 concerning my complaint
filed with you case #[redacted], Decano Construction Company. I was surprised to hear from you Mr.
[redacted] since I was told some time ago that the case was closed due to Decano’s nonresponse. As you
know I also filed a complaint with the Attorney General Office and [redacted] from Decano Construction
has since responded to. I am sending you all correspondents and photo of down spout as per your
request per our phone conversation that took place on Friday August 1, 2014. I have taken your advice
and have sought out the services of an engineer, as you said it in our conversation that it is my word
against his and that he can make claims as well as me, but that I would need proof to make my case
valid. I do not want to nor do I feel as though I should have to pay out of pocket expenses to right this
wrong, but I will in order to prove my case against Decano Construction Company. Like you said most
people won’t or can’t afford to hire an engineer plus the fact that this whole process is very time
consuming. This is not about a free driveway I already paid and I still have to put the money out to
correct what Decano did this is about righting a wrong!
I would like to address again to Mr. [redacted]’s response to the Attorney General Office and
now faxed over to you.
1) I the customer met with [redacted] all of three times the first time to discuss replacement and pricing
of a new driveway. At no point in time did he tell me that he subcontracted all of his jobs out
but in fact lead me to believe with all of this photos that he is a big construction company with
plenty of equipment to do the job. As he said they are so busy. Never once did I ask about any
other jobs carpentry, painting, laying block as my budget didn’t allow it, and that is why we
discussed doing steps and a walkway next spring. Second time was to sign a contact and both
my husband and I were present for that which took place on our front porch. Mr. [redacted]
showed us the same photos and made all the same statements to both my husband and myself.
The third time that we meant with Mr. [redacted] was to pay him for the driveway.
2) As decided by both parties on March 16, 2014 [redacted] came to our home to discuss the cracks in
our driveway. He had no answers for us as to why the driveway cracked other than Mother
Nature was the likely cause of it. After my driveway started to crack I looked up on the internet
why a 5 month old driveway would crack and what popped up was how to properly install a new
driveway. So I said to [redacted] I’m not an expert but could it be maybe the concrete wasn’t mixed
right to much water, not enough gravel or maybe it wasn’t compacted. Little did I know at the
time it is the thickness. All he said was the concrete was strong enough, I asked how he
would know that to which he replied that “they test it on site”. I informed him that we were
there the hole time and no test was ever done, to which he replied that he has the paper work
to prove it, I said there was never any paperwork exchanged between his workers or truck driver
only cash money between the driver and Rocco. [redacted] said he has the paperwork so I asked for a
copy said he would send it to me, but never did. Who is the concrete company and why can’t he
show the bill of sell?
3) [redacted] states that 2 tons of gravel was delivered and spread. Once again why won’t [redacted] the show
bill of sell? He is a contractor and should know that 2 to 4 inches of gravel is standard. Maybe
he should watch the video.
4) This is the biggest problem of all, [redacted] states in all his reply’s that there is 4 inches of concrete
and that the apron is 5 inches of concrete (as he stated in his reply apron 5 inches cause other
trucks wanting to turn around in my driveway garbage truck, box trucks) when in fact there is
only 3 to 3% inches of concrete.
5) I set up the appointment to discuss the cracks in our driveway not additional work. As I said in
the beginning our first meeting was to discuss replacement of the driveway and replacement of
the walkway and steps in the spring. [redacted] had no answers for us and offered to put more sealer
on the driveway when we said no because sealer would not fix the problem and they had
already put tons of sealer on the driveway before it was even dry and he know that next told us
to wait till June or July that is if he gets the job to do the steps and walkway he’ll take up that
slab and repour it if we pay for the concrete. No I’m not going to give him another job just so
he’ll I fix what should have been done right the first time plus he wants us to pay for concrete
we already paid for. I don’t see how that is fair. So yes we believe that [redacted] tried his best to bait
us into another job. And what should we do with the rest of the driveway when it starts cracking
due to thickness problems?
As to [redacted]’s remedies
1) Adding more sealer. We both know this is not a fix to the problem. So why do something we
know won’t fix the cracks
2) Self leveling concrete caulking into the cracks like a gig saw puzzle. My question is, Is [redacted]
going to keep coming back to caulk my driveway as it continue to crack over time do to
improper thickness?
3) Saw cut a section of driveway. Why would we want to do that when we know that the
thickness of the driveway is only 3 inches and in time won’t be able to support the weight of
a car.
Yes we refuse what [redacted] calls normal remedies cause not one of them will fix the problem
but merely all he wants to do is put a Band-Aid on it. I want a refund so I can get the
driveway done the right way. Why should we absorb the cost of a new driveway in a year or
two when that’s what we thought we were paying Decano Construction for? That’s not fair
to us to be cheated out of concrete. I really don’t think having a tree removed 8 years ago
has anything to do with the driveway cracking. When they tore up the old driveway there
were no roots and if there were then Decano should have said something, like he said a
contractor is obligated to explain any unforeseen problems in writing. [redacted] should also
know that in all the contractors that bid on this job there was only one that required a
deposit and Decano construction was not the cheapest. I don’t know why providing proof
and absorbing all the cost lies solely on me, I don’t understand why Decano Construction
Company has not been asked to provide any proof to validate [redacted]’s claims. Why Have
neither the Revdex.com or The Attorney General’s office ask Decano to provide his bill of sale for
the concrete, the receipt for the gravel, or the name of the companies that supplied him
with these materials. In order to prove my case Mr. [redacted] I am jumping through hoops, and
answering all sorts of questions, supplying you with endless amounts of proof yet Decano is
asked to provide nothing why is that? I would like these questions answered and so should
you in order to make the best decision possible.
Decano is asking that the case be closed and certification of the Revdex.com be awarded. I the
consumer ask that you please wait for the engineer report. I feel as though if you grant
Decano Construction Company Certification you are only certifying that they will continue to
rip people off. The Certification will only give them the leeway that they need to continue
to mislead other consumers, and give less that satisfactory work to other hard working
people who cannot afford to correct his poorly done work.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Review: Contractor did not complete the job. Installed back porch carpeting and did a sloppy job, the sides would not hold the glue, they did not seem to know how to lay the carpet even though they led us to believe they did. Then they installed a 2nd layer of carpet on top of the first and could not get the sides to glue down at all. They said they would return to fix it but they did not. After many phone calls from me and my son and daughter-in law, they kept saying they would return once the weather got better (to glue down the sides) but they never returned. They also poured new concrete steps in the front of house and did a very sloppy job and left some holes in the steps which water can leak down into. This went on from May 2015 to August 2015. I am mostly upset about the back porch carpet. Now I will have to get someone else who is experienced, to re-do the carpet and this will cost more money.Desired Settlement: I would like some of my money back since the job was not completed and it will need to be re-done eventually by someone who is experienced in laying outdoor carpet. It will be hard to get someone else to re-do the carpeting this time of year now so most likely mold and water will settle underneath the carpets over this upcoming winter, since the sides are not glued down. The cost to have someone re-do the carpet on back porch and to fill in the holes on the new front concrete steps may cost about $1,000.
