Most horrible experience I have ever had with any contractorDennis [redacted] , the owner asked for an up-front down-payment of 50% of the total, which is illegal in CaliforniaThe most that California's Home Improvement law allows is 10% or $1,000, whichever is smallestHowever, I was naive and gave him over $7,because of his seeming trustworthinessThe contract additionally violated the law by not informing the customer of the right to cancel within daysAfter informing Dennis of my color choices on May 1, he was supposed to start the paint job on the outsideHe insisted that he first needed to perform a "quality inspection" of some stucco work done by a 3rd party vendor the month beforeI waited during the whole month of May for him to get started with his inspection and paint job but it never happenedOn separate occasions in May, he promised to get going but nothing happened: zilchHe just kept repeating the same thing to me but never keeping his word and then just giving me a new date Finally, by the end of May, I was thoroughly fed up with him "stringing me along" with promises and I sent him a termination email in which I explained to him the reasons for ending his servicesAt this point, he responded saying that he had just scheduled me for weeks further into June, which would have made the total wait time over weeks! (One month is legally considered "abandonment") In my notice to him, I gave him weeks to return my deposit and he then responded to this by saying that he would not return anything, as supposedly I had contacted his bonding companyIn fact, I did not even know the name of his bonding company My current status now is that I'm still struggling to get my $7,deposit backEventually I was forced to contact the bonding company and also filed a complaint with the Contractor's State Licensing BoardAfter filling out numerous forms and being interviewed by phone, I am still waiting to be redressedThe process is so slow-moving (no one at the bonding company even answers the phone) that I'm still out the $7K without any painting ever having been done by himFurthermore, going to small claims court seems impossible as his work address turned out to be just a p.obox, in spite of being listed on his website as a "suite"This is definitely the worst experience in my life related to contractorsAn honest contractor would simply have admitted that they now had acquired new and more desirable projects and would return the moneyMy advice to the reader: if you enjoy spending a lot of time fighting just to protect your basic economic rights, then this is the company for you
