Deerhorn Valley Horse Transport Reviews (2)

Review: I used the above transport company to transport my horse from Ohio to Colorado and my horse arrived dehyrated and starved to my location. The animals on the trailer did not have hay and my horse was in such poor condition that he stagered off the trailer. I am concerned for the welfare of the horses under this transportation company. My horse was not properly offered water or food and he is in such poor condition requiring special nutrition and supplementation.Desired Settlement: I am requesting that a investigation be preformed so an aminal does not die in the care of this company and I am requesting compensation for this trip. The owner of the farm the horse left from in Ohio and the owner of the farm he arrived to in Colorado would be happy to offer statements in regards to the conditions. Thank you for your help.

Response:

Hello,my name is [redacted] owner of Deer Horn Valley Horse Transport Inc.

I have read the complaint from Ms.[redacted].

She apparently wants her money refunded for horse transportation

that we provided for her due to apparent starvation of her horse.

Deer Horn Valley Horse Transport Inc. retains a flawless record, although we are not a member of Revdex.com. I had spoken with Ms [redacted] about some of the transports I recently had done myself.

As a example,2.5 weeks ago I personally picked up 1 barrel racing

horse, that has been hauled all over the country. He refused to drink

or eat very little on the trip, which was from Purcell OK to Bryan College Station to Phoenix AZ.

I took an extra 2 days before I delivered him,I had him at 2 different equestrian layover facilities, in which he would not

eat and drank very little, however even though we were in some triple digit weather, he did not loose any noticeable weight.

I had given him 2 doses of electrolyte to help with possible

dehydration, he was a bit dehydrated, however after he was

home,I checked on him, the owner said he was fine and he

wasn't a great traveler.

After seeing the before and after pictures of Ms. [redacted] horse which

are a bit deceiving, due to the fact, the before pictures are taken

from a greater distance than the after which are very close up.

Also the rib and hind quarter areas are hidden in the before

photos, kind of odd, even at that I can see the horse is a bit

drawn in the flank area, even at that distance. As an experienced

horse owner, that is easy for me to detect. As to my understanding

Ms.[redacted] has never owned a horse,so I can understand her concerns.

I do not know the age of her horse,he appears to have some age on him,if not my take is he hasn't been cared for very well. She stated the horse swaggered of the trailer,I guess that's a good term, basically he was getting his sea legs in order as all horses that have been traveling for a while, just like you and me.

Ms [redacted] states none of the horses had hay. We feed at different times during transport, some handlers feed twice daily, some leave

hay in front of the horses at all times. She would have to have been in the trailer to even notice weather horses, were eating or not

in which we do not let customers go in with other horses.

Her horse also had 2 layovers,so he did have plenty of rest and was not kept on the trailer the whole time of the trip. I think

someone has planted ideas in Ms. [redacted] head that aren't exactly

the correct assumption as to why her horse arrived looking underweight.

I have very good references from not only customers, but other horse transport companies, which are listed on my website. I'm

happy to offer any other help on this matter.I'm not inclined

to reimburse any funds that contribute to her transport and if any

slander appears about my company, I will then have my attorney

address that matter. I hope this case is closed,

Regards [redacted]

Review: I contracted Deerhorn to move three horses from San Diego to Texas.

The web site shows beautiful trucks and trailers and I was promised a professional hauler to take my horses across some really hot states. The hauler I was promised was unavailable and the one that showed up topic up my horses was [redacted] and he admitted to the stable owner that the was exhausted and had been driving straight for over 15 hours. He also had a broken foot. He said he was so tired that he couldn't even read the paperwork.

The trailer was in terrible condition and was unsafe for my horses. The divider between the first two stalls was missing so the first 2 horses would have been side by side for many hours in very hot conditions. The third horse's stall had hay bales stacked beside it and in front so if the driver braked had any sudden movements, the hay could have injured her.

The stable owner refused to let my horses go with this person for obvious reasons. I sent the photos of the trailer to the owner of Deerhorn, [redacted] and he said he didn't personally know this hauler and that the trailer wasn't up to his standards. He wanted to haul the horses himself, but at that point, I said I wasn't interested in having them handle my horses. It was his responsibility to make sure his hauler were safe and well rested. He did neither of theses things, so I didn't trust him to take care of my animals.

He agreed to refund my deposit of $1100 twice, once verbally and once in a text message. He them retracted his offer to refund my money. His dispatcher told me they could keep my deposit as there was a 72 hour cancellation clause on the contract. I responded that if I had known they were going to send a hauler that was too exhausted to drive and an unsafe trailer, I would have cancelled in advance.

I know that my horses at the very least would have arrived traumatized and at the worst, injured or dead.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund and I would like this company to stop brokering to hauler that they haven't personally checked and inspected their trailers.

Response:

Hello,My name is [redacted] owner of Deer Horn Valley Horse Transport Inc.I am responding to a complaint against my company from a customer by the name of [redacted] Drippling Springs TX. We were contracted to transport 3 horses from California to Texas. This arrangement, was made through my dispatcher. We have several drivers with their own rigs, that come under the heading of sub contractors, that operate under my authority.I do not broker out to drivers, they must work soley for dvhorsetransport. There was an apparent change in drivers, when our driver ,his name is [redacted] showed up the stable owner made the decsion for Mrs. [redacted] to not let the horses get on board due to the looks of the trailer. They also stated [redacted] said he hqd been on the road for 15 hours and was very tired. I did see pictures of his trailer,I did at first agree to give her the deposit back. However I had to rethink the situation out,I did have the solution and could accomadate our customer,by personally doing the transport myself in my personal rig.The stable owner seemed to be making the decisions for the owner,as the owner stated. She refused to let me do the transport.Therefor I must renig on returning the deposit. It is stated in our contract deposits are non refundable unless cancelled 72 hours prior to pickup. Our driver did come 600 miles to pickup the horses, which he had to pay for all the fuel and ware and tare on his truck.I have not had any complaints from anyone else about [redacted],he left California and went on to picking up and delivering other horses without complaints. He has also been routed down to a trailer repair place in Texas to make the necessary cosmetic fixes on his trailer. This issue could have been quickley resolved.Thankyou , [redacted]

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

As [redacted] said in his response, he agreed to a refund not once but twice over the period of a couple of days.He texted also and said that he had directed his dispatcher to refund my money. He agreed when he saw the photos I supplied. He admitted that the trailer wasn't up to standards and that the driver was new and that he hadn't met him or seen his trailer. The fact that the driver left with a full load proves two things:1) [redacted] wasn't fi[redacted]ally burdened and 2) he still let horses leave in a sub-standard, unsafe trailer. The fact that the trailer was serviced in Texas also proves that it needed work. I called the dispatcher for 2 days asking about the refund without a response. When we did speak, she informed me that I wouldn't be getting a refund as my only choice was to have [redacted] take the horses.
