As the patient stated they sought services at Delano Regional Medical Centers Emergency Room on Feb 15th 2012. We have reviewed the encounter and timeline and found the following. 1. The patient filled out a form detailing their visit related information, but nothing related to insurance. We do...
not ask for insurance information before the patient is seen in the emergency room. See attached forms A/B 2. After the patient was medically screened we asked for insurance information and were told he had Medi-Cal. Insurance was verified and patient was not active for the date of service. 3. The billing department double-checked to see if the patient had eligibility and confirmed they were not eligible. See attached form C 4. We sent the patient four statements, to the address the patient provided, stating that they were responsible for their bill. See attached form D S. The final statement sent to the patient prior to being assigned to a collection agency informed them of what would happen if they failed to respond. See attached form E The end result was that we assigned them to a collection agency because they failed to respond to our statements and failed to provide us with valid coverage for the date of service.
