August 4, 2016To Whom it May Concern,In response to the customer complaint you received from [redacted], the following response is from DeNaples Equine Services PC.On Saturday (October31, 2015) Dr. Emily B[redacted], a veterinarian for DeNaples Equine Services, was called out on an emergency call to...

evaluate and administer medical services to wounds sustained from a dog attack on a goat named [redacted], owned by [redacted] and [redacted]. The attack on the [redacted] goat was inflicted by [redacted]'s dog [redacted], a young Pitbull mix. The dog was running at large and unattended and ran on to the [redacted] property and viscously attacked the goat which was tied on the owner's property. [redacted]'s dog attacked the tethered goat severely injuring the goat's left front leg. [redacted] forcibly removed the dog from their goat. The owners Immediately observed that the goat was injured, bleeding, what appeared to be in shock, and not able to put any weight on his left front leg.[redacted] called Dr. B[redacted] for immediate evaluation and treatment to their home. The evaluation by Dr. B[redacted] showed the goat in severe shock and at risk of sudden collapse and death due to the trauma and blood loss, [redacted] was treated, stabilized and given pain Meds. Two drains were placed in the most severe wounds and sutured. He was able to remain all home and given immunosupportive drugs, additional pain killers, started on antibiotics, and his leg was wrapped. The house call and emergency fee of $75 was billed, normal on site weekend calls are $175 plus additional fees that could have been charged for emergency professional services in the amount of $150-$200 for immediate services and travel. What was charged was a reduced and reasonable fee to stabilize, flush, clean, suture, and place drains and administer care and medical treatment. The total bill for the initial visit was $355,00 inclusive of services rendered, medical supplies and medication. Based on fees charged within the area if taken to an emergency clinic the cost would have been more than double what was charged. [redacted]'s first week of recovery was also not without its setbacks. He refused to eat and was doing very poorly. Dr. B[redacted] also provided follow up professional services, supplies and medication to [redacted]'s recovery process at an additional cost of $138.00 total cost of all services charged was $493.00.When Dr. B[redacted] talked to [redacted] the owner of the goat injured about the bill for the emergency services and care she conveyed that [redacted] offered to pay the bills for [redacted] since it was her dog [redacted] was unleased and running free and acknowledge the attack was her responsibility. Dr. B[redacted] was given [redacted]'s contact information and a bill was sent to her address shortly after services were rendered. In an unscheduled subsequent meeting [redacted], the owner of the goat, happened to ask Dr, B[redacted] if the bill had ever been paid. To which all Dr. B[redacted] had stated she had not been paid in full. The owners of the goat told Dr. B[redacted] that they felt bad the bill was not paid and they did not intend to put DeNaples Equine Services in thal position. No details of what was owed was ever shared or divulged.Regarding the follow up to the open balance owed, from the total due of $493.00 [redacted] has made partial payment of $205.00 leaving an outstanding balance of $288.00. Attempts to contact [redacted] have been made no harsh words were said to [redacted] by anyone from DeNaples Equine Services, the inquiries were focused on the balance and when payment could be expected. The fees charged for the services rendered are fair and reasonable and the balance is expected. It is our understanding that [redacted] has lost her job and that is unfortunate and we have tried to be reasonable and have accepted partial payment, our payment policy is payment in full. To date DeNaples Equine Services accepted payments and however it is more than 6 months since services were rendered. We have not turned over the outstanding balance to a collection agency as we have the right to do so. It is our feeling she is simply trying to avoid paying a valid bill for services rendered on injuries to another animal inflicted by her dog who was allowed to run at large and attack another animal no on her own property.I do hope this clarifies the matter and removes any inkling that anyone associated with DeNaples Equine Services acted inappropriately or presented themselves in a non-professional manner.Sincerely Yours, Dr. Ann D.DVM
