Review: I took my truck to get the transmission repaired 3 weeks ago and it is still not done due to the wrong parts being put it. I was also told it would cost $1900 and it would be done within 3 days; than was told it would be $2500 (3 weeks later).Desired Settlement: would like to pay the $1900 or less.

The customer brought their 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup to us almost four weeks ago because of a transmission fluid leak At that time we estimated the repair to be in the $900 range. To access the leaking seals, ?it is necessary to remove the transmission from the vehicle, which isa labor intensive job. The customer agreed to the repair and we began removing the transmission, only to find that the fluid was bright pink, which meant that the radiator coolant had leaked into the fluid and contaminated it. We explained to the customer that coolant in the transmission fluid causes the water-soluble adhesive on the clutches to ~il, and therefore the transmission needed to be replaced or rebuilt Doing a reseal only would not have repaired their vehicle. We then gave them a revised estimate of $1900. We explained that this was the base price of the transmission rebuild, not including any damaged hard parts. Because the problem appeared to be limited to coolant contamination, we said that we wouldn’t expect to need too many additional hard parts, but you never know for certain until you actually disassemble the transmission. We told them that we would call them with the final quote once we had a chance to examine all the parts. The customer said that they needed some time to decide whether they wanted to do the repair. Ten days later they called and gave authorization for us to start. After disassembling the transmission, we found that it had been rebuilt before, and the pump had been irreparably damaged, probably caused by driving the vehicle while the fluid was unknowingly contaminated, We also needed to replace some of the electronic components, namely the governor pressure switch and governor pressure solenoid. The additional parts broughtthe total, before tax, to $2258.12. We notified the customer of this by phone and they verbally agreed to the revised estimate. After the repair was complete, the test drive showed normal upshifting through the gears but a malfunction on kick-down shifts and slipping in overdrive. (Pressing hard on the throttle to go into passing gear) At first we thought this was due to an upgraded seal in our rebuild kit, so we again removed and disassembled the transmission. (The upgraded seal was not an incorrect part hut an improvement over the original.) We did not find anything mechanically wrong with any of the internal transmission parts, or any evidence that the upgraded seal had malfunctioned, so we then suspected the kick-down problem was caused by the valve body. We ordered an expensive replacement for it at no additional cost to the customer. Unfortunately, the parts provider shipped the wrong revision of valve body to us twice, which caused an additional two days of delay. (Transmission parts are not always well documented by parts providers and this particular transmission had at least seven different revisions of the valve body design.) Once we installed the correct valve body, kick-down shifts were no longer slipping but the overdrive gear was. Our rebuilder then removed, disassembled, and carefully inspected the tail section of the transmission and found that a shim was thousands of an inch out of tolerance, causing the transmission to lose hydraulic pressure in the overdrive section. Whoever had rebuilt the transmission before probably installed the wrong sized shim. After we bought the correct shim at our expense and installed it, the transmission shifted smoothly in all gears and in kick-down, but the four wheel drive was not functioning. We traced the problem to a rusted hydraulic line, which we fixed at our own expense. We also replaced a broken transmission mount at our own expense. Once all of this work was completed, we notified the customer by phone that the truck was ready. The delay of the job was due to many reasons. First, we had to wait ten days for the customer to authorize the job. Once they did authorize it, all of our hydraulic vehicle lifts were tied up and we had to wait for an open one, which added another day. One of our two technicians was also absent for several days due to snow, ice and a family medical emergency. Receiving the wrong valve bodies from our parts provider added another two days. Finally, to fix the problem, it was necessary to remove and disassemble the transmission and tail section, reassemble it and reinstall it, which is normally a three day process. We sincerely apologized to the customer for all the unforeseen delays. In compensation we gave them a free rental car for one week, did not charge them for the expensive additional parts that were needed to complete the repair, or the repair of the four wheel drive. We also extended their warranty an additional year, free of charge, which is a $170 value.????

Review: Rear brakes were improperly installed on my son's 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, he drove 3 miles and was unable to move the automobile. The faulty installation could have caused injury and/or death to him or others. The automobile due to the faulty workmanship (or lack of supervision in checking the faulty work) had to be transported back to Ohio (where my son's job recently transferred him) by trailer.Desired Settlement: Correspondence was mailed directly to them on September 8, 2015. To the Oakland Avenue and an address in Worsham PA requesting a partial refund of $300.00. Total brake job was 619.29 which was unreasonably high, and due to faulty workmanship & inconvenience in not being able to use his vehicle, I requested a $300.00 refund.

This letter is in regard to complaint ID# [redacted]. We received the customer’s letter in September. That was the first and only time they notified us that they were dissatisfied with our repair. The repairwas completed at our center on April 6~’, 2015, which was more than five montbs ago, which is wellbeyond the warranty period of the repair. The custome?s letter said that when her son picked up thevehicle from our shop in April, he drove just 3 miles, pulled the emergency brake, and his rear brakeslocked up. Instead of contacting us to have their vehicle repaired under warranty at our shop, as theterms on our invoice clearly require, the customer rented a car carrier and transported the car to aChevrolet dealership in Ohio. The customer initially did not provide us with a copy of the dealershipinvoice, a contact, or any way of independently veri~’ing that the failure was our fault. Thecustomer’s subsequent letter included the invoice, which was for the amount of $69.71.Although we cannot definitively prove that our repair was faulty, in the interest of customersatisfaction, and to resolve this issue more quickly, we have sent her a check for $69.71, which is theMl amount that she claims she paid for the vehicle to be repaired at her chosen repair shop. There are many more details in the letters we wrote to her that prove that this resolution is a fair one,so we have included them for your scrutiny. We have also included her letters to us as well, If youhave any farther questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.Sincerely,Dino C[redacted]Owner/Manager

Review: My 2007 Chrysler Sebring was towed to AAMCO with possible transmission problems. It was determined that it needed a transmission. [redacted] gave me 2 options. I asked his opinion as it was my son's car and I wanted to be sure he was safe. He assured me that reconditioned/used rarely have problems and he would find one with low mileage like the one being replaced. I purchased the used/reconditioned due to the price and his assurance. The vehicle was completed after a week. He gave me a verbal full warranty including labor within the 90 days. The paperwork offers a 12 month, 12000 on reconditioned. 150 days after the work was completed the car was returned to AAMCO with noises when shifting and not going into reverse. They did tests and told me that it wasn't the transmission but a cv joint. I returned car to [redacted] who stated it was transmission. I took it to Chrysler dealership who took multiple pictures of the damage within the transmission and advised that I needed to have the transmission repaired or replaced again with the lowest cost being $2500.Desired Settlement: Since the warranties on the paperwork conflict and they would not stand by their workmanship I am requesting a full repayment.I was given misinformation about the problem when I returned the vehicle to AAMCO which is considered as transmission specialists, I had to pay an additional $2500 to have their transmission repaired. The money that we paid for the AAMCO transmission was $1514.35 and it only lasted 4 months. I am only requesting a refund for unsatisfactory merchandise.
