Dennis' Auto Repair Service Reviews (2)

I am the owner and operator of Dennis's Auto Service and I am responding to the complaint filed by [redacted]r on July 10, 2015.Mr. [redacted]r brought his vehicle in to me to test drive after another mechanic had told him that thecatalytic converter needed to be replaced. I drove the vehicle out to...

the edge of town where I couldaccelerate It to SS miles per hour. I turned around and then stepped it down and it went right to ss mphagain. I returned to my shop where I told Mr. [redacted]r that, at that time, I could find no problem withthe ve~lcle and that, without it acting up, , could not give him an opinion as to what the problem wasthat he had experienced, so Mr. [redacted]r left. His claim that I told him he could drive It 550 miles withno trouble is absolutely false. , cannot and would not make such an irresponsible claim to anyone. It IsImpossible to say what problems any vehicle will have at any given time. When he requested a tow, Mr. [redacted]r said he was on County Trunk K about 4.5 miles away and wasout of gas. My driver drove past K, turned around, and found him on the way back. The vehicle was nowacting up, 50 I drilled a test hole In front of the catalytic converter. It had 3 pounds of pressure on idle, meaning It was bad. Mr. [redacted] agreed to have it replaced so I ordered the part for the next day, expecting It to be In by 8 a.m.; however, It didn't arrive until after noon. After removing the old part, I found the new part to be 12 inches too short. I told Mr. [redacted]r that wecould either reorder the part, or I could weld the last 12 inches of the old pipe, which was in good shape,to the new one. Mr. [redacted]r directed me to weld the part so that he could get on the road. His main complaint is that he was charged for the tow; however, I did no repairs to the vehicle on Mr.[redacted]r's initial Visit because the vehicle was running fine. It Is unfortunate that Mr. [redacted]r didnot travel far before the vehicle did begin to act up and I understand his frustration at having his tripdelayed and the unexpected cost of vehicle repairs, but I take Issue with the many false statements andquotes he has made in his complaint. I have been in business for 42 vears because I operate my businessIn a courteous, fair, and professional manner.Thank you for your consideration in this matter.[redacted]Owner, Dennis's Auto ServiceEngine &

Review: I visited Dennis's after another mechanic telling me my catalytic converter needed to be replaced. He test drove it for 5 minutes and sent me on my way telling me nothing was wrong, even though I mentioned another guy checked the codes but did not have time to help me with the repair. 10 miles down the road, my vehicle broke down again. I had to go back to this business because I had forgot some personal belongings anyways, but needed to take the back roads. I completely broke down less than a mile down the road from his business. I was then charged for towing after I was sent on my way with his claim I would be okay to make the next 550 miles of my trip. It wasn't until now he checked the codes and said to me "oh yeah, your catalytic converter is shot...it needs to be replaced". Part was ordered that night (Monday, 7/6) and he assured me it would be there first thing in the morning. The part didn't arrive until 2 pm on Tuesday and they pulled my vehicle in and started working on it. I was then approached at 4pm...(2 hours later!) that the store had sent the wrong part. How does a mechanic work on a vehicle for 2 hours before they find out the part is wrong. He then cut the piece and welded it into place. What I am most upset about is the towing charge of $75 after I had to wait 1.5 hours and was given the thumbs up my vehicle would be okay. However, when I mentioned it, I was met with frustration and told, verbatim " Well, you needed to be towed, didn't you? You are free to pay the towing charge and take your vehicle to another shop, but I'm not sure it will drive very well." I was at his mercy and had no other options than to keep my vehicle there.Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed for the towing charge.
