5-27-2016In response to Customers complaint Job took much longer than quotedIn response, I cannot agree more, and I continuously apologized, and when I ran out of money I discussed the possibility of working with me, giving me more money after explaining the obstacles I ran into and unforeseen
problemsCustomer graciously agreed to some, disagreed with mostI borrowed $from family and friends to finish the jobI finished the job, that's the bottom lineThe issue with the ductwork left incomplete by me is absolutely untrue, they gave me a final punch list of what they wanted me to finish and told me they would handle the rest in the hope of me leaving as soon as possible(I still have the list) Also, I know exactly how to finish that duct work and told them so but wasn't acceptableI still feel it's the best solution and firmly believe after its finished and painted they will be more than satisfied. With regards to limited use of a full bathroom, there was never a day that they did not have a full bathroomThey had to endure no bathtub for an extended period of time, but had a full bathroom functional with a stall shower in the meantime. With regards to the roof, I subcontracted most of it, but installed the upper front roof myselfI installed GAF* peel and stick matching roll roofing directly to the wood deck, although the manufacturer recommends installing self-adhering base sheet firstI don't use the base sheet due to the fact that the only time I ever used the base sheet, a large section of the roof system blew off It appears that the base sheet did not adhere the way its supposed to and was then informed by other roofing contractors that they nail it as well to make sure it stays downThis defeats the purpose of a self adhering roof stem that's supposed to be hail freeNailing the base sheet creates hundreds of unnecessary holes in the plywood of deckWhen I began applying the *** peel and stick directly to the wood, especially on a hot day like the day I installed at the Customers residence, the roofing membrane becomes part of the roof deck, its almost impossible to separate from the plywood without removing a ply from the plywoodI can walk away from that thoroughly convinced that there will be not leaks or other issues for the guaranteed life of that roof systemTo shingle a roof with that pitch would not only worry me, but the manufacturers warranty is voidedWith regards to having the roof ripped out and “fixed” by another contractor, without the opportunity to defend my work or possibly offer a solution suitable for both parties, I find it difficult to accept they can then demand that I pay it.State Lic# ***Dennis WLong5-27-

I am rejecting this response because: First, I will address the main issue which is the condition of the roof. Mr. Long was called out to our home in February 2016 to repair a section of the roof that was flapping in the wind. Should a new roof be flapping? I don't think so, however, he and his subcontractor went on the roof claimed it was a piece that just needed to be tacked back down. The same day a contractor neighbor volunteered to check our roof and took the attached photos. After that we did not want Mr. Long back at our home let alone to repair a roof that he lied about being fixed. We had different licensed, professional roofers come to our home and write estimates. Ironically, all  were similar as to the problems with the roof  that Mr. Long and his subcontractor installed. After seeking references for the new roofers, we chose a roofer to complete the job and that is the estimate we sent to Mr. Long.  I don't think all the different roofers are conspiring against Mr. Long. In regards to the rest of Mr. Long's response we worked with him and accepted his apologies. The job began May 26, 2015 - he did not stick to a payment schedule yet asked us for money along the way. We foolishly extended him this courtesy. When he approached us that he was out of money and gave us a list of what he was requesting more money for it was September 18th. At that point we only owed him $500 more dollars on a $57,537 job and our home was still in upheaval.  We too keep records Mr. Long. Yes, in mid November 2015 we gave him a "punch list" of what remained and what we wanted him to finish. He did offer to finish the duct work,  we declined, we needed our home back.   Our children were not in beds from early June until the end of November, we were at our wits end. At the time of construction our children were ages 6 & 2 - anyone who has a 2 year old knows it is virtually impossible to bathe a child in a stall shower. At one point, our full bath was completely gutted and Mr. Long told my wife that he and the plumber wouldn't be working that day because they had to install a dishwasher somewhere else on a job that had been scheduled.  Mr. Long was paid the remaining $500 on his contract along with $1000 (out of $3000) additional dollars that he requested, that we believed was more than fair.  We are once again nicely asking Mr. Long to take responsibility for the cost of the roof repairs.
Regards,
