They lied about what my insurance would cover, after my insurance company informed them they would not.
In April 2018, I went to Dental Bliss for an exam. I was informed I had 4 cavities that needed filling. I requested sedation for the procedure. I talked with one of the girls at the front desk who handles the appointments and insurance. I was told, after they spoke to my insurance company, that the white fillings they would be putting in were covered, but the sedation was not. They gave me a form that had what I would be paying out of pocket, and that I could use the Care Credit card for it on the day of the procedure. I agreed to pay that amount of just over $3,000 and signed the form. I went ahead with the procedure in May 2018 and paid the bill. Almost a year later, I received a bill for another $768. When I called them to ask about it, they said my insurance had downgraded what they would cover without telling them, and only would have covered silver fillings. So I called my insurance company. The man I spoke with had record of the conversation they had with Dental Bliss, and had informed them at that time that the white fillings would not be covered, and that the dentist's office had lied to me. After I called Dental Bliss back and told them this, they said they would try to refile with my insurance and see what they could do. A few months later, I received a bill for $529. I called Dental Bliss to ask about it, they informed me that the insurance decided to pay an additional $200, but that I had to pay the rest. I told them that not only could I not afford it, but that I had already paid them a fortune and that I knew they had lied to me about my insurance coverage. I then looked at their yelp reviews and saw they had done similar things to other patients. After telling them I would be filing a formal complaint, and that I shouldn't be responsible for that bill, I hung up. Now, another 2 months later, I received another bill for the original $748, so I'm guessing my insurance did not pay the extra $200 Dental Bliss said they did. Not to mention, the first time I went there about 20 years ago, they were doing a special for new patients, so my mom took me for a cleaning. They told me I had 4 cavities. My mom thought it was a little fishy since I had never had that many cavities before, so we went to check with my regular dentist, who after xrays and an exam, reported I had no cavities.

Desired Outcome

I do not believe I should be responsible for this bill since Dental Bliss knowingly lied to me about what my insurance would cover.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I apologize for the delayed response, as the complaint made it to my desk only this week. I have reviewed the account, the insurance EOBs, the insurance verification form, patient notes, treatment plan & the complaint filed by ***. We have a different person in the dental office who handles the insurance verification &treatment plan presentation, so I could not get all of the info from the original person *** dealt with. I would have to agree that there was a major miscommunication between the office & *** regarding her insurance coverage. I have written the account balance off, as *** should not be punished by our short comings. As for her statement regarding her visit to Dental Bliss 20 years ago, no one in our organization can speak to what happened at that time. Our company did not own Dental Bliss 20 yeas ago & none of the Doctors or employees from that time remained on staff.
