This is in regards to an oversight on the part of Ted D S [redacted] DDS that severely damaged one of my teethHe drilled a hole in a tooth -- above and below the gum lineThe technician filled the hole above the gum line, but NOT below the gum lineDr S [redacted] examined the work of the technician before I left and said it was fineWhen I returned or months later, the dental hygienist was alarmed to find a big hole in my toothDr S [redacted] looked at the hole (where it was not filled below the gum line) and said that the enamel of a tooth is very soft under the gum line and rots very quickly if there is decay or a hole thereDr S [redacted] said he would repair the tooth at no additional charge, which he didAfter he drilled the rotted tooth out and refilled it, he said the tooth (decay) was really a messIf there is ever a problem with the tooth, there isn't enough tooth left to do a root canalIf I have a problem, the tooth will just have to be pulledHistory: years ago in a distant city, my dentist had put a filling in that tooth as a precautionary measureThere was no decayBut another tooth (which was extracted because I have a small mouth and there wasn't room for all my teeth) had leaned against the tooth and worn the enamel a little thinSo he drilled a little bit and put in a filling to prevent a cavityA few years later, he said the filling was starting to buckle and would someday need replaced, which is what Dr S [redacted] was attempting to do Bottom line: my only molar on the bottom left side that I can use to chew with has been ruinedAnd I had never had any decay in the tooth until the drilled hole was not properly filledI have no way of knowing if the technician made an error -- if she knew the extend of what had been drilled outBut Dr S [redacted] DID know he had drilled out below the gum line, but did not "catch" the error when he examined itI have no choice but to find another dentist
This is in regards to an oversight on the part of Ted D S[redacted] DDS that severely damaged one of my teeth. He drilled a hole in a tooth -- above and below the gum line. The technician filled the hole above the gum line, but NOT below the gum line. Dr S[redacted] examined the work of the technician before I left and said it was fine. When I returned 3 or 4 months later, the dental hygienist was alarmed to find a big hole in my tooth. Dr S[redacted] looked at the hole (where it was not filled below the gum line) and said that the enamel of a tooth is very soft under the gum line and rots very quickly if there is decay or a hole there. Dr S[redacted] said he would repair the tooth at no additional charge, which he did. After he drilled the rotted tooth out and refilled it, he said the tooth (decay) was really a mess. If there is ever a problem with the tooth, there isn't enough tooth left to do a root canal. If I have a problem, the tooth will just have to be pulled. History: 10 years ago in a distant city, my dentist had put a filling in that tooth as a precautionary measure. There was no decay. But another tooth (which was extracted because I have a small mouth and there wasn't room for all my teeth) had leaned against the tooth and worn the enamel a little thin. So he drilled a little bit and put in a filling to prevent a cavity. A few years later, he said the filling was starting to buckle and would someday need replaced, which is what Dr S[redacted] was attempting to do. Bottom line: my only molar on the bottom left side that I can use to chew with has been ruined. And I had never had any decay in the tooth until the drilled hole was not properly filled. I have no way of knowing if the technician made an error -- if she knew the extend of what had been drilled out. But Dr S[redacted] DID know he had drilled out below the gum line, but did not "catch" the error when he examined it. I have no choice but to find another dentist.
