I called Denver Plastic Surgery as a referral from my primary care physician. I was looking for a breast reduction that would be covered under my insurance and Dr. R was one of the names I was given. I called to set up an appointment and was told that they did not have time to get me in and I asked to be put on the cancellation list - in case someone cancels, I would be able to take that appointment. I was called the morning of 5/22/18 to come in within an hour to an appointment that was cancelled. I was never told that it was $225 to just come in and see their office and pictures. After waiting an hour to be seen, I finally was taken to a room and then waited 20 more minutes. I saw the doctor for 5-10 minutes and looked through her look books. After seeing Dr. R work, I personally was not interested, I called on my way home and told them I was not going to use their services. When I talked to Becky (I left two messages to get one call back) she said that their fees were just like ***. When you come in, you pay. She also asked me what other doctors I was going to and who did my surgery. I told her that was not her business - because it isn't. Becky said since I signed the financial responsibility form that I was responsible for their fee. That is not right. You cannot just charge potential clients a.) because they said they would be financially responsible and b.) whatever you want without them knowing.
In regards to Ms. complaint, I would like to issue the following response: Ms. was originally scheduled to see Dr. R for a breast reduction consult on 6/26/2018. She wanted to see the doctor sooner and was asked to be put on our cancellation list. We were able to move her appointment up to 5/22/18 at 11:30. Ms. arrived early at 10:49am in order to fill out paperwork and have pictures taken prior to seeing the doctor. Ms. saw Dr. R promptly at 11:30 and departed our offices at 12:36pm. While I do acknowledge that Ms. did have to wait a bit to see the doctor, it is important to note that she was seen at the time she was scheduled and that the doctor certainly spent more than 5-10 minutes with her. I apologize that Ms. feels like she wasn’t made aware of Dr. R’ fee for an office visit. Consults with Dr. R are never free. As I explained to Ms., we never know what will be covered under each patients particular plan when insurance is billed. In her case, her insurance was billed the $225 for the office visit, the $50.06 deducted was our contractual write off. Zero was paid by her insurance company and the balance of $174.94 was applied to her deductible. Therefore, the $174.94 balance due becomes her responsibility. Ms. was provided with a financial agreement to sign prior to her appointment. (Please see attached document.) If I can help with any additional information or explanation, please let me know.
