Review: [redacted] is a contractor. He charged me $15,000 to fix my newly purchased home in Elmont, NY. This was agreed upon for payment for workers only and I would be responsible for materials. He started to work immediately on July [redacted] 2013. He was paid $7500 to start the job on........ He stated it would take 4-5 weeks to complete. On 8/**/2013, [redacted] asked for money to pay his workers that were working on the property, he received $3,500 via check. On 8/**/2013, [redacted] again asked for money to pay his workers and stated the job would be done in less than a week, he then received the remaining $4,000 due to him according to our agreement. On 9/**/2013 the job was still not done and [redacted] called me asking for more money. When I denied him additional funds ($1200) different from the original agreed upon amount, he called his worker that was working and told him to pack his tools up and go home. My home was left incomplete and I haven't seen the contractor again. This is unfair business and [redacted] should be penalized for conducting business in this fashion. Please contact me via email for a more detailed description of the matter.Desired Settlement: I am seeking $3000, which it would cost me to have another contractor come in and finish [redacted]'s incomplete work.

Response:
[redacted], hired me as a contractor. I provided several estimates at different stages of our relationship for different items. All agreements were oral and he refused to put the agreements in writing. It is our understanding that the first estimate for $ 15,000 (labor) and $ 18,900 (contractor fee) which included labor and contractor fees and covered the following work. Any reasonable person would understand that the estimate did not include materials (tiles, sheetrock, plumbing and electrical system, etc.). [redacted] agreed to purchase all necessary materials prior to construction commencing.
Second Floor:
Bathroom floor to be completely tiled
New kitchen installed
New installation of plumbing and electric in kitchen for sink and stove
First Floor:
New wood flooring to be installed in living room and hallway
The existing three bedroom floors needed to be polished and buffed
Existing bathroom was to be demolished and tiled
New stand up shower, sink and toilet to be installed
New kitchen to be installed
One existing wall was to be removed and a steel beam installed as load bearing
Basement floor:
Existing bar and kitchen was to be demolished
Walls removed
Installation of one bedroom, one living room and storage installed by stairwell
Entire basement to be tiled
30% of the basement needed to be sheet rocked
The client then made the following amendments/changes/additions and was quoted the amended price of $ 1200.00. The client has NOT PAID this sum, the work is completed and he has NOT PAID THE INITIAL CONTRACTOR FEES. I have been forced to terminate because I am spending out of pocket for the labor.
Second Floor:
Entire floor needed to be painted to increase rental value
Floors and steps sanded and polished
First Floor:
The bathroom that was being worked on was broken and remade as per customers orders three times
A bigger closet and bigger stand up shower was installed
The changes made to the bathroom extending it, forced a new closet to be installed in the adjacent bedroom

Nearing completion of this floor, the customer asked for internet cables to be installed and bigger doors. Due to this change, the walls and door areas needed to be broken to accommodate this change
