Review: I recently received an envelope with the return address of the company address sans the "LLC", with a large print statement of "FINAL NOTICE", with a "WARNING" about federal mail fines, and in small print "not a government agency".This company uses scare tactics to extract $96.00 to give you LEGAL PROPERTY information. At the top of the letter and in extreme bold print is a notice stating IMPORTANT DEED NOTICE. Under the notice is what I can only guess are certain particular information that someone (or a company as access to the information) of my recent purchase of a home.The most bold statement is in a box stating that " December 2013... 12/11/2013...Compliance Response Date...Regulatory Document Number ######...If received after requested date, an additional fee of $35.00 will be required before processing...PLEASE RESPOND BY: 12/11/2013.It is not until the last few paragraphs where they have the "Important Disclosure" and they reveal the company name as "The Department of Housing and Deeds, LLC".As you are aware of my age, I am highly educated, and I have concerns about this company. They use subtle scare tactics that would scare my elderly parents, they have a misleading return address that this is coming from a federal agency by omitting their "LLC", they provide a lot of personal information that may be correct or not in regard to closing on home, and can extract anywhere from $96.00 - $131.00.Desired Settlement: This company likely complies with the law, but I believe that it is their intention to mislead the recipients of what their true intent is. You really have to read the entire document to find out that this is NOT a federal agency, and that they are here to "help".It would interesting to know just how many households have responded, and out of those, how many had to pay the additional $35.00.
