They lead us to believe the cost would be $4000.00. When it was finished it was $11,000.00. He would not let me write a check early.
November 6, 2019. Early in the morning two men drove up to our house. They stated that they had extra pavement materials from working on a home near ours. Stated the weather was going to be bad the rest of the day and the next few days and that they would lose their good price. Wanted us to purchase the materials, they would put it down and remove holes in our driveway. They continued talking and even showed my husband the driveway they said they did. The head guy repeated it would be about $4,000.00. My husband and I agree that we would each pay $2,000 and it would not be a big hardship. At this point I signed a check and went to work. I wanted to write it out for $4,000.00 but the lead guy said, "No, wait until it is finished". We had only lived in the house a few weeks and our bank accounts were low. The lead guy stated he would send his driver to get a truck load. They worked on the driveway, I went to work and my husband started mowing grass. The lead guy stopped my husband and asked him if he wanted a second truck load of material put down. My husband stated, "No, we don't have $8,000.00 to put into this right now". They finished their load and came to my husband for the money. The man gave the price of $11,000.00. My husband, who is 76, nearly died. What were we to do at this point? We didn't have a contract of price limit. He verbally lead us to believe it would cost $4,000.00 to have it done and that would be a truck load. We were taken advantage of because I believe they do this all the time. They have a sales pitch they use without regard of ability to pay or other financial issues. It was totally false advertising. We had to stop work on our new house to make this financial obligation. We were fortunate to have the extra money on hand but now the rest of our home is unfinished. The paved section is in the middle of our driveway. The top and bottom are not finished and it looks weird when coming to our home.

Desired Outcome

We want the $7,000.00 returned. It was totally false advertising. Reminds me of grocery stores that put a price at the top of end caps but the items on the sides are much higher. DePasquale Paving knew what they were doing. We are in a financial bind at this time.

Depasquale Brothers Paving Response • Dec 18, 2019

We had stopped at 4000$ and her husband asked us to go as far as we could with what we had. And as far as placement of the asphalt that's where her husband told us to put it we did not choose where the asphalt was placed. And as far as a refund we don't not offer refunds on installed materials she needs to speak to her husband about the matter because she was not present at the time of install and the complaint is illegitimate

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
My husband may have said go ahead with what you had, but he was lead to believe that a truck of material would be $4,ooo. That is why my husband stated, "We can't afford 2 trucks, that would be $8,000". These men have done this so many times they know the language to use to suck people into their plans. I did talk to my husband and they might have asked about how far but they sure didn't say that a truck load of materials would be anywhere above $4,000. They were very deceitful in their presentation. We didn't complain about the install nor the location. They are trying to divert to conversation and issue to something else. We are honest hardworking people that are wanting to retire, they didn't care that we are older, they just had their pocketbooks in mind. Like I said in my complaint, they were deceitful in their presentation as to the cost of the entire project. I don't lie or cheat and I don't like for people to do it me. Their sales angle is nothing but a lie and shows how they cheat people. I just wanted $4,000 of materials and they led us to believe that it would be a truck load of material. Instead it was $11,000. I was there when they told us the cost and I listened carefully to how he was saying it. He wouldn't take my check for $4,000 as he was getting the job started because he knew it would be a whole lot more! They should be embarrassed.

Was overchared for job to lay asphalt millings. And company is not responding.
8/19/19 - Depasquale Brothers approached my uncle about laying left over asphalt millings. They have prayed upon a senior citizen. They were very confusing and never provided him with an estimate in writing. He was under the impression his driveway was going to cost approx. 1,400 to lay asphalt millings and proceeded to do the job and talked him into doing more area than originally discussed. Again the price was never made clear nor was anything ever given to him in writing. Yet they advertise free estimates. Estimates should be provided in writing. Once the job was complete they presented him with a bill charging him 11,460. The bill showed nothing which stated how much the millings were per square foot or how many square foot they layed. He wrote them a check. However after contacting me his niece we put a stop payment on this check as it was thousands more than he was originally under the impression this would cost. So we attempted to contact the company multiple(10+) times asking that someone return my call to discuss this bill and provide a breakdown of the job that was done and no one would return my calls. We did notify them that we had put a stop payment on the check until we received a breakdown of the bill. They then proceeded to cash the check at a liquor store in ***, MD. It has been several weeks now and no one still is returning my calls. After doing some investigating into what other companies would charge they have more than doubled the price of the job.

Desired Outcome

A large adjustment in price there is a huge difference between 1,400 and the 11,460 dollars that they charged for this job.

Deceptive sales tactics and flat out lying to take advantage of clients
This is not a real company. They are scam artists and liars. using alternating names. For me they used Direct Asphalt. They actually lied to me about their father dying in the line of duty as a Baltimore Police Officer. I checked the roles, there was no mention of their father in honors for fallen officers. How dare they use such a tactic to try and get my confidence. They came in a lied about having material left from a cancelled job. They low ball a price to get in and then they jack up the price. I paid literally five times what they originally quoted. I was under stress of moving to a new house and thought I was getting a good deal. It is my own fault for being taking advantage of. Don't fall for them. They are serial scammers. You can also find them scamming under the name DePasquale Pavers and DePasquale Bros Paving. They quoted me a price of 2-2.50 per square foot. I don't even think they measure. They finished half the job and told me That it would be three times that to finish. I don't even think they used a tape measure. They were just throwing out numbers. One "brother" agreed on a price with my wife. It sounded fair, the other "brother" supposed "owner" came back to renegotiate a higher price. I looked on line and found out these guys have been scamming their way through Maryland and Pennsylvania. Don't fall for it.

Desired Outcome

They lied about price per square foot. They did not even measure. I want to be refunded and charged only for actual square footage at the agreed upon price of 2.50

We are not Direct Asphalt and we are in no way shape or form associated with Jeremy *** or any other paving Company. This is not our business!

They did work to extend my driveway and they did an awful job. The pavement is not even, awful job where seam is, driveway sunk in, soft spots.
On 4-11, Dan & his brothers did work on my driveway to extend it 3 feet. Dan told my husband that he was responsible for digging and placing the wood on the end of where they asphalted. We are paying them so my husband should not of had to do that but he did. Dan finished the work around 5ish and asked my husband for payment but my husband told him this was my project and I was working late but would be in touch with him about the payment. Dan said he would wait for me to get home and was persistent about getting paid which my husband thought was peculiar because Dan kept mentioning payment. Dan informed my husband not to park anything on it for 2 weeks. I checked it when I got home it looked awful, look like a 3rd grader did it, the seam wasn't flush/even with the pavement and there are holes by the seam like they didn't put enough asphalt. I texted Dan's wife and she said she would tell him. On 4/16, Dan came back and put a black line along the seam. It was still not done properly and he never fixed the problem with the areas needing more asphalt. On 4/17. I texted the wife and said that the job is awful and unexceptionable and I wanted it fixed to my satisfaction. As of 4/28 still have not heard anything from them so I texted the wife and she said Dan would come out this week and fix it, it is now 5/3 and still have not heard from them and my driveway is not fixed.

Desired Outcome

I need them to dig up the mess they have created so I can get it done properly. It is going to cost me three times as much if they do not fix the mess that they have done.

We never received any payment from this customer. We went out multiple times to try to please her and nothing would suffice. She hasn't realized that by extending the current driveway it will never be a perfect 100% match. We can't please her and never came to collect money because we tried multiple times missing work for a small job, it just was a case of buyers remorse. I'm providing copy of the invoice and a copy of the corresponding contract. Again we have received no money from the homeowner.

Customer Response • Jun 28, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Dan came out one time to fix the seam where he extended it which took him about 10 minutes. I completely understand that it will not look perfect however if I hire someone, I expect the work to be satisfactory. The seam still looks awful but the the bigger problem is where they extended the asphalt has sunk in various areas. His wife said Dan would let us know when they could be fixed and never heard back from them. I will not pay him until the job is done satisfactory which is included in the proposal.

Hired Depasquale Bros.to pave driveway with asphault. Cracking, only one half inch thick, dents, blemishes, dirt in asphault, vegetation. Done 2/2019.
February 25, 2019 I was approached by Depasquale Brothers Paving, LLC, who stated they would pave our driveway with asphalt. The price paid was $8200, which included applying a double coat of hot oil base sealer "which will cover all the blemishes." The hot oil sealer did not cover any of the blemishes. I contacted the paver by email on 2/28/19, with photos of very obvious blemishes that included, lg. stones, gouges, ridges, very rough areas, brown areas that were made by dirt mixed in the asphalt. No response from the paver by phone or email. March 29, 2019 I sent an email from my phone with more photos of the paid bill, asphalt left in our yard, many blemishes, vegetation growing thru the asphalt. With this email I stated that I was contacting Horry County, Revdex.com and my attorney, and I stated it was hard to believe that they remain in business. The paver's response was that he emailed me and didn't get a response from me as he wanted to schedule to return. I never received an email from the paver. He states that there is a disclaimer at bottom of contract (bill) that there is no guarantee against vegetation(grass, weeds, roots, etc.) My response was that if the asphalt was more than a quarter inch thick, it would not be a problem. Stated that paver could call Mr. at XXX-XXX-XXXX to schedule a time to come and repair our driveway at no cost to us. Monday 4/1/19 I send an email stating that I was still waiting for a phone call about repairing my driveway. Paver responded with "I will give him a ring by 5 today", the same day, 4/1/19. No phone call was received from paver on 4/1/19. Some time a few days later the paver called and said they would be here in two weeks to fix the asphalt on our driveway. The asphalt dents or makes a deep hole with a lawn chair used on the asphalt. When you walk on the asphalt, when it is warm weather, your shoe soles leave imprints everywhere you walk on the asphalt, even with soft soled shoes or sneakers. The thickness of the asphalt is less than the mowed grass next to the driveway. There is a large dip in the asphalt where water, sand, etc. collects every time it rains. We have yet to hear from or see the paver at our home in Loris, SC. According to businessfilings.sc.gov, Depasquale Brothers Paving, LLC is not listed as a business doing business/sales in the state of SC. Are they legal to advertise and do business in SC? All their vehicles are labeled with the business name and contact information.

Desired Outcome

I am seeking complete refund of the $8200 paid for the paving of my driveway with asphalt. At the rate the grass is growing through the quarter inch thick asphalt, in six months time from the paving my driveway will be yard. If Depasquale Brothers Paving, LLC will come back and re-do our complete driveway with at least 3 inch thickness of asphalt from the cement in front of the garage to ***, make it even 3 inch thickness side to side the length of the driveway including the path to the porch, flare the asphalt where it meets ***, (only one side was done in 2/19, seal the asphalt again and finish without blemishes and all other concerns with the initial paving.

Inferior product. Asphalt jobs were poor, asphalt has dips, holds water, and is grainy, falling apart.
Job done on 1-8-2019 by the Depasquale brothers and their employees. They came into *** area and began cold contacting people saying they had left over asphalt from a job and would give us a good price to do a driveway. Claimed they were third generation asphalt workers, had all the equipment, which was new, and several trucks. Did a driveway for my mom, that also has problems, and a driveway for my husband and I and a pad in front of our large shed. We have called the numbers we had for them and were told they would fix it, but they have not and now do not answer the phone or return calls. DB Paving (Depasquale Brothers) claimed they were not part of the crew that did our work, however, I have pictures of their truck, equipment and people on the jobs. They were working with Jeremy DePasquale. The driveway has a huge puddle in it and the pad in front of our large shed is a mess, crumbling, puddles, loose asphalt, etc. They travel in the winter to southern states and works, going from one job to the other, talking a good game, but doing lousy work. We are extremely unhappy with the job they did and now they will not return calls or claim they are not responsible for the work. Direct Asphalt and DB Paving were working together, as a group, so they are both responsible.

Desired Outcome

They need to repair/replace the asphalt that is a mess in front of the shed, and redo a portion of the driveway that has a huge puddle in it.

Like I have said to you and your husband, we did not pave your driveway! We are in no way shape or form affiliated with any other paving company. This is not fair to be attacked like thins but I have no contract from you because again WE DID NOT PAVE YOUR DRIVEWAY. I have text messages from you stating you talked to the person who did the work and had set up times to meet.. not us!

Customer Response • Apr 23, 2019

These people were ALL working together so they are ALL responsible for the work. They told me they had done a job at another business that I was familiar with, which was a lie. They present themselves as a group of brothers with their workers, talk a good game, saying they will give a good price as have extra asphalt from a big job. I have a picture of one of the people from DB Paving working on our jobs who is the same person from DB Paving Facebook photos. Stepahny would not tell me who it was and shut off communication, saying I was harassing her. The bottom line is they (all of the DePasquales and their employees) did inferior work, used generic service bills, not letterhead as she said, because as I see it now, they were working without license in our state. They, Dan/Jeremy/Raymond/Robert-whoever, as we don't know their real names, were on our property doing the work and I have pictures of their trucks. The skidsteer used for the jobs is on DB Paving truck!
They, the Depasquales, were doing gypsy work in SC because it was too cold up north.

We did not complete this job and I have proof of her telling me her mother wrote a check to Jeremy DePasquale and she has caked the numbers they provided and no one can be reached. I have provided text messages with her and also a copy of my contract so she can see that she did not receive a contract from us! Thank you

On 11/28/17 the company paved our easement. They promised us the blacktop would not wash out. It washed out in only a few months.
In early November, my neighbors *** had the Depasquale Brothers pave their driveway. They told my neighbors that their paving work would not wash out as the millings are mixed with tar. After seeing the *** driveway, upon completion, I called the company to get an estimate for our easement that leads to our driveway.

We decided to have them pave our easement and they charged $9,240, which was paid in full. Dan told my father and I the same thing the *** were told; they promised that their work would not wash out. They paved the easement and it looked great for a few months. Then everything washed out leaving the easement a rocky mess. I called the company on 4/27/2018, spoke to Ray and explained my disappointment. They sent out a crew to fix it two days later. They just rolled over the mess of gravel which remained. It did not make a difference as no additional millings were laid. I called Ray and explained that it looked no different. He has said they have too much work in Southern MD and did not know when they would be able to make back but they would try to make it back.
Our easement is a mess and is just getting worse. It washes out into the main road every time it rains. This never occurred prior to having them pave it. This company has ignored all of my neighbor's emails asking for the same thing I am asking...to make things right.

I have the before and after pictures that speak volumes of the work I received and I am requesting a refund. As this situation doesn't look hopeful, I wanted to get the Revdex.com involved before I resume legal action.

Desired Outcome

I am requesting a refund in which I paid $9,240.

Depasquale Brothers Paving Response • Nov 15, 2018

This complaint has been settled we issued a partial refund to help the customer chose a different solution for their driveway needs, the funds were issued in the form of a check.

11/18/17 Dan from DePasquale Paving guaranteed that our driveway would not wash out (after paving)& promised to come fix it on 1/13/18.

On 11/18/17 Dan *** w/ Depasquale Brothers Paving LLC spoke with my husband & I about re-grading & re-paving with recycled asphalt. My main concern was the driveway washing out & Dan told us that he would be back to fix it if this happened. Less than 2 months went by and our driveway had huge gullies & was no longer smooth as promised. After paying $4500 for this service, I had emailed him & he responded on 1/13/18 that he would correct the issue when he picked up his equipment from my neighbors (The *** Family). On 1/28 - I followed up with an email to get an estimate on their arrival. Emailed twice on 3/16 regarding the issue & no response. At the same time my neighbors were dealing with the same washout of their own driveway that was also done by DePasquale Paving. We spent $4500 for a driveway that washed out less than 2 months later. I have the emails with Dan & pictures of the driveway. I am asking for a refund to allow another company to correct my driveway. I feel as though my emails were being completely ignored & it makes me sick to waste that kind of money. *** Run *** MD XXXXX

Desired Outcome

I am seeking a refund to have my driveway re-graded & re-paved correctly.

Depasquale Brothers Paving Response • Jul 02, 2019

The job was redone today 7/1/2019!

Customer Response • Jul 03, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Completely satisfied that my driveway has been corrected.

The contractor has not completed the work, the finsish product is substandard and the contractor will not return to complete. all money has been paid
The contractor gave me a verbal quote to install asphalt on my gravel driveway @$3.00 per square ft but couldn't give me the total until the work was completed.
And told me that I wouldn't have to pay until everything was finished and I was satisfied. He partially completed the work the first day and it rained on the second day and he showed up to my office and told me everything was finished. due to the heavy rain there was no way to see the work and he assured me that it was complete. He then told me that I owed him $14,000.00. and I asked him that he quoted $3.00 per foot so how did it become so high and he gave he told me that his measurements totalled the cost to be a little over $14,000.00 but he was giving me a deal. I wasnt home and it was heavy raining so I had to believe him and paid him.

The next day after the rain stopped, I seen that his finish product was terrible and was never finished from the first day because of the rain. He lied because he never went there to finish.
and we measured the square footage of the asphalt and it was allot less then what he said it was.
At this point, the drive way is terrible and over paid for. I contacted him and he said that he couldn't do anything until it warmed up. The asphalt was done in january so what we would have to wait , I am not sure. I contacted him through email, thumbtack (the referral company where I found him) and text message and most calls werent returned and the times when I caught them on the phone, they just kept saying they would warranty it but couldn't come now.
After 4 months of many request. they came last week and only sprayed a sealer on it and said that it would take care of oit. He said the sealer costed him $2500.00 and he was doing this to show me that he was warrantying the job.
the driveway is really spongy in many places, there are holes everywhere where the driveway just fell though, my sons motorcycle fell over and is now all scraped up because the driveway was never pressed down correctly and there's no foundation to it.
I contacted him again but am getting no response

Desired Outcome

I am asking for a refund so I can pay another contractor to complete correctly. I do not wish to deal with this contractor anymore

Depasquale Brothers Paving Response • Jul 01, 2019

Here are photos *** provided where he parked a motorcycle on asphalt that was not properly hardened. The rest of the job looks great .. the only flaw was negligence on the homeowners part. He parked a motorcycle that sunk into the asphalt because of the kick stand. That is not our fault.

Rushed Sloppy Job. Cashed posted dated check. Road not properly graded. Job site left a mess. Non professional results
I wrote two checks one post dated, both were immediately cashed. Road was not properly graded. Product depth not as promised. Culvert pipe installation not completely finished they left both ends of the pipe blocked. I asked to have the issues addressed before they left they simple disappeared. Road is not level.

Desired Outcome

I would like job fixed and check that was to be held refunded. It's a week before Christmas and what was supposed to be a gift for the family has my account balance at zero and job that is not finished.

Have tried several times to contact customer , he will not return phone called text messages or any further communication . Have looked at the driveway and there is zero issues with the job . And the customer has not paid for the job in full Terrance has a outstanding bill of $1,500 that was due the date of 12/28/17 , customer then offered to settle on $750 due to insufitant funds . We at DePasquale Brothers Paving feel that it is a false complaint do to not being able to afford the project . We also feel as if there was a legitimate issue with the job the customer has not communicated with us to give us a chance to fix or repair anything that could possibly be wrong .

Customer Response • Jan 28, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Depasquale Brothers promised a professional job. *** promised. While working on my driveway it started to snow. The crew mentioned that they had a snow removal contract and started to rush the job. The driveway pipe was not lowered to the proper height. The pipe was blocked on both ends with rocks and relocated earth. My neighbor took a bobcat and cleared both sides out to prevent the road from washing out. The had to clean up debris left by the crew. The height of the driveway was supposed to be level with the asphalt driveway. The *** that solicited the job was a far different person than the *** that I called to complain. He basically said it is what it is. I have notified my neighbors to beware of the high pressure hard sell tactics. What was promised was not provided. They troll neighborhoods on slow days and promise the world. At this point I would simply like to be left alone. I have resolved the issues that I could resolve. Its should have been a sign when *** drove up and started blowing the horn late in the afternoon. I should have known better.

My husband was pulling out of the driveway. Paving company was in neighborhood looking for work. They stopped my husband. Quoted $700.00 to do part of our driveway, which needed paving. We agreed to that and they would grate driveway compact based, remove grass and debris , put down weed killer and then put down recycled asphalt. It was agreed that they would come out the next morning and take care of it. They showed up next morning march 21, began the process. My husband and I were indoors talking, and we decided we would like the whole driveway done. My husband spoke to the gentleman who said they could do that, but he was not sure if they had enough asphalt with them, but they could probably do it. Business rep said he would measure the area when complete, To give a final price. Since 1/3 of driveway cost $700.00, we thought the remaining 2/3rds would be $700 each. After rep measured the area after work was completed, he came back with a quote: $2,850. I did , at some point, tell the rep that we received a quote in the past for 3500, for the whole driveway. I am thinking now that I should not have. This may be where he got his figure from. To seal the driveway, they stated they would come back the next morning for $500 to seal the driveway. We were told that when it dried, it will be as hard and normal / regular asphalt driveway. They came out next morning and sprayed a sealer on. They kept having trouble with the pump. Once everything soaked in and dried up, there wasn't much sealer there. After about a month we had some weather and rain, and noticed the asphalt began to crumble. Called April 21, and we heard recording if you know persons extension dial it, or leave a voicemail. After leaving several messages we received a call back from a woman. We told her about our issues and requested they come out to fix the issues, or provide options. April 22 called again, No response. Gentleman called us back and stated he would come out in two days and didn't. On 19th of June called again. There were other calls during this time. No response. We have not been able to get in touch with them. Twice they said they would show up but never came out. I saw the same business in NJ, same business name. The Business presented themselves as four brothers and a father and my husband was so taken by the fact that this appeared to be a family business. The service vehicle also appeared to be brand new and the equipment was brand new.

Desired Outcome

The asphalt is just crumbling. I would like to know if there is something we can do to prevent it? We want to talk to someone to see what options are available.

Depasquale Brothers Paving Response

After meeting with Mrs. and discussing her concerns, we came to an agreement to refund the money for the work performed. There was a misunderstanding on both parts, so we resolved the issue by refunding the customer. Both parties are now satisfied.
