Dero's Painting & Hardwood Floors, Inc. Reviews (4)

Dero's painted our new 2450 sq ft condo. He gave us an extremly fair price, gave us a timeline and followed through completely. The workers were very professional. They cleaned up every day, arrived early each morning and did not stop working until they left. They are precision painters.

Review: My initial contact with Dero's was the owner [redacted]. Pleasant and agreeable, his personality sold the job. He promised that all of the work would be done in a timely manner and done correctly. We asked if he would be present during this time, and he told us yes. We have never seen his face or heard from him again. Not to be long winded, but all of the jobs felt rushed and were done sloppy. They painted a ceiling the wrong color and blamed it on me, although I sent them all of my color choices in writing and never varied from them. I found a radiator bent after they removed and replaced it, and they said it was always like that. I found the "professional painters" painting around the electrical outlet covers instead of first removing them. The hardwood floor installation ended inches short on one side of the room. Over and over they were made to redo jobs that should have been done correctly in the first place. English is a convenience they use only when they want something. If you ask them a question, or point out a problem they just shrug and walk away. I no speak the English! If I do a Google search for Drywall Contractors in my area, Dero's name does come up. They advertise themselves as professional Drywall Contractors. One of the jobs they were hired to do in our home was to tape and repair a crack that ran the entire length of our Living Room ceiling. [redacted] said "no problem, we fix!" The workers hung opaque plastic over the door, so I could not see how they did the job. When they were finished the crack was no longer visible. Several weeks later, the crack has reappeared in its entirety. Obviously they just slopped a quick fix up there that only lasted until they cashed their checks from us. When we contacted Dero's, who promised us a 90 day warranty on all of their jobs, they told me that the crack reappearing was MY fault, as I did not supervise THEIR workers. If I knew how to do the job myself why would I hire them in the first place? Unbelievable as this seems, I have the Email from them to prove it. They refuse to correct the mess that they made. We are left holding the bag. Out of our money, and now we still need to hire someone to correct their mistakes. They refuse to do the job that we paid them in full for, and we will most likely end up in litigation.Consumer beware! Dero's has proven to be unscrupulous and without integrity. Their Customer Service is perhaps the worse that I have ever experienced. They offer a worthless warranty, because as soon as they have your money, you will NEVER see them again. Everything that goes wrong is always the homeowner's fault, never theirs. We are so sorry that we ever let them into our home.Desired Settlement: I would hate to allow Dero back inside of my home, and yet they should be held accountable for a job poorly done and for refusing to honor their promised Warranty. The best solution that I could think of, is to allow me to hire a professional drywall person to provide us with a written estimate to fix the crack permanently and correctly, to submit that estimate either to a neutral third party or directly to Dero's. Dero's sends me a check. The job gets done as it should have been.

Response:

All the work was done and completed in a timely matter, and was done correctly. The crew was present, and the owner stopped by from time to time to inspect the job. Before the job was completed, the crew asked the homeowner if the job was approved, and she agreed, and also paid for the job upon agreement. The ceiling color that was painted the wrong color, was fixed the same day for no extra charge due to the paint store's error., and we apologized for the inconvenience. During no time was the homeowner ever blamed, we simple corrected this. The radiator was in fact dented already before we painted, an d there were various dents on the existing before even touched. The was in fact blamed on us without proof. The electric covers were not removed because it is an antique, and if it cracked or broke during the process of removal, it would take us time to order, and money to replace. They WERE however cleaned properly after our procedure. The Hardwood Floor that there was ONE piece BEHIND a radiator that was short, was fixed promptly after the phone call received to notify us about it. During no time at all did we ever refuse to accommodate the homeowners requests. All of the guys that were present spoke English, they had ACCENTS which apparently is amusing to the homeowner, but they did communicate with her, and if at any time their accent was so heavy to the point to be hard to understand, the office was always available to clarify any questions. The crack in the living room ceiling was done correctly to the best extent that could be done. During the estimate, the owner explained that cracks usually reappear, especially if taped before (which hers had) and that it could reappear. He explained that we did not build the house, so by no means could we guarantee that it would never return. The homeowner asked us to do the best we could, and she would try her luck. The painters hang plastic on the walls NEVER to keep the homeowner from seeing what is going on the job site, but solely to keep any dust or dirt away from the other rooms, and belongings. In our email we explained after the crack reappeared that If the crack is reappearing what we are trying to explain to the homeowner is that the house is old, and that the underlying cause of the crack could be something else, the beams, of the house, the structure, so the reappearance of the crack can not be blamed on a "poor job" we did all we could to insure that it would hold up if the underlying cause was not structural. For it to reappear this quick, it's definitely something else. Also we do offer a warranty but NEVER for cracks, our warranty covers PEELING PAINT only. This does not mean we are not honoring our warranty. Also, just to prove that we DO NOT disappear once we receive our money, we returned after we were paid to correct the floors, an exterior job that was done separately, we came back to touch up, and never refused to correct anything that the homeowner was not 100% satisfied with. At the time of the work, not only were we paid for the job that the homeowner agreed was approved, but also awarded us in other jobs in the exterior of the house as well.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

Dero's painting ruined my house. Painting the outside of my house while it was wet, sanding while it was wet etc...causing the entire house to peel within a week! The owner was argumentative and threatened me to the point we had him arrested. He sued me for payment and was denied, the court ruled for him to pay me the maximum in small claims based on my evidence.
I am still trying to collect on this judgement of $5,000

Review: Deros was hired to provide carpentry and painting services for my property. We had quality issues with the carpenter whose work we had to continually monitor to ensure it was correctly done.

Carpenter also placed a large tarp over the heat exchange unit for an air conditioner while it was running. This resulted in the unit overheating and burning out several components, all of which need to be replaced. The air conditioner has been out of commission for three weeks while we wait on replacement parts,

Carpenter also left a large amount of nails, paint chips and cigarette butts all around property, creating safety issues for my family.

For all these reasons, we asked Deros to stop working on our property. However we had already paid for 60% of the overall work due to the billing policies of Deros. This amount included some of the services for the painting of the property, which Deros did not perform.Desired Settlement: I am asking for a refund from Deros of $5000 for the following reasons:

1. Overpayment for services not performed - $2500

2. Repair existing carpentry work - $1500

3, Repair air conditioner - $1000

Response:

[redacted] hired us to do the carpentry and painting of his

house. However, when the work was being done, never was the quality an issue.

The problem began when [redacted]

emailed us regarding the A/C unit not working properly, stating it had

been covered by our crew, when it had NEVER been covered in the first place.

Regardless, we took the time to come out and meet with [redacted] to test it

and see what the problem was. During the time that we were at the property, the

AC UNIT WAS WORKING PERFECTLY. It was on, and the room was nice and cool. After

this, according to our terms of payment,

we required a middle payment for the work performed up to date, and he did provide it to us in a smoothly fashion,

and in our experience when ever a customer is not happy with a service, the

first thing they will choose to do is hold payment. At this time, all of the

carpentry work was completed including EXTRAS for the roofing, and repairs of

the Office house. We were then ready to begin the painting job, and even sent

the crew out to check all windows and walk the property on Friday to prepare

for the commencement of the work on Monday. After this [redacted] asked that

we waited a few days so he could discuss the job scope with his spouse, and asked

that we did not perform any work during

this time. We waited two weeks, and at

that time, we needed to ask for the balance because our workers were standing

by. He then emailed us at the end of the two weeks and asked to stop any work scheduled. At this

time, all work (carpentry wise) has been competed and the balance of $2,961.00 remained. Soon

after this, we received this complaint, stating that WE owed him for the work.

[redacted] also claims that money for the Painting was received, when all

funds received from [redacted] were applied to the carpentry ONLY. Nothing

paint wise was received/done. In our experience, it does not make sense for the

customer to ask for the work to be stopped when money is owed by the

contractor. We believe that if any funds were owed by us, [redacted] would ask

any work pending to continue, or be finished.
