I am rejecting this response because: I was never told I needed a new air conditioning unit or given options other than a new coil and more R I was never told about the Rthat would continue to rise in cost I was never told about the Rthat would be illegal to use in a couple of years The unit was old enough that options should have been offered How long should an air conditioner last? I'm not the expert so can only base my decisions on the information and options presented As stated in response, the air conditioner was working at the time I hired and paid him for expertise in my air conditioners to keep it maintained and running The only option given by the expert I hired was a new coil and R If the unit needed to be replaced now or in the near future, I needed to know Peers in air conditioning industry, have stated that I was scammed I have since found out that Rcan cause equipment failure Again I'm not an expert I paid for someone to be that expert
More importantly, I don't want this to happen to anyone else Other companies are contacting their customers to make them aware of the Rand implications

First it should be known that the evaporator coil and the outside air conditioner are two separate pieces of equipmentThe evap coil sits inside the house on top of the furnace and the the ac unit is outside they are connected by two copper lines known as a line set that the
refrigerant is circulated between the twoWhen the evap coil fails and needs to be replaced because it is leaking refrigerant, it has nothing to do with the out side unitSome leaks are very slow and the unit will run for quite some timeAs the complainant stated he had been told for years that he needed a new coil, however he chose every time to just add more refrigerant, which is what he chose to do again this yearThis time however the leak had grown so much so that the refrigerant leaked out faster and caused his air conditioning to not cool his houseHe then decide to replace the evap coil and his outside unit was still running fine, until it decided to quitHe needs a new outside ac unit which will have R410A refrigerant, which is the new refrigerantHe does not need to replace his inside evap coil again it is NOT obsoleteHe simply needs to change the metering device on the evap coil which will allow it to be compatible for the new refrigerant and flush the system (the coil and line set)The complainant first decided to go with adding more refrigerant and was charged for that, the old refrigerant is very expensive as the government is getting rid of it, but it is not illegalwhen his system failed he changed out his evap coil and paid for that and more Rthe old refrigerant, now his OUTSIDE unit has failed and the quote he was given is for that piece of equipment, the metering device the flush kit and laborNo ill will or scam has been done to this manHe stated in his complaint that he had been told over and over that he needed new equipment, yet he chose not to replace that equipment until he had a total failureIt also sounds like he is confused to the fact that the air conditioning system consist of two different pieces of equipment
