 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
We paid this company a $3135.00 down payment for a $9500.00 job.  At the time my husband signed the contract, he only authorized the initial down payment of $3135.00  However, they ran the credit card that day for the deposit plus the remaining balance of $6365.00---2 charges on the same day.  The credit card company contacted my husband with a fraud alert and gave him the opportunity to decline the 2nd action for which he did.
We paid the balance of the invoice $6365.00 by authorizing $2000.00 on the credit card and $4365.00 by check on April 2, 2014 when they completed the job.  My husband authorized only $2000.00 on the credit card.  I never spoke to anyone or authorized anything in the beginning of this process despite what [redacted] has stated.   The credit card is in my husband's name only. My correspondence with [redacted] started after April 16, 2014 when he was notified by my husband of their error.
We sent [redacted] a text stating that we were initially happy with the job.  The crew was very nice but in less than 2 weeks, we noticed bubbling and sent pictures of the damage to the sales person, Allan as well as the owner, [redacted].  We never referred anyone to their business and never stated that we were impressed with the whole resurfacing process. We did tell him that our deck looks more uniform and was better than it was in its previous state.    In the meantime, we discovered on April 16, 2014, 2 weeks after the job was completed,  they charged our credit card AND cashed our check.   They said on multiple occasions that their error had been corrected.  Each time, it was not.  [redacted] was defiant and offered us to talk to his bank on one occasion but he never provided us with his contact.   We have all documents and emails stating so.   Finally, on April 25, 2014, he sent us a copy of a receipt for $2000.00. The total amount was supposed to be $4365.00.  My husband had told [redacted] all along that we wanted the return on our credit card as it would reflect on our credit report that we went over our credit limit by nearly $5000.00.  Then on May 6, 2014, he said he mailed a check to our address in the exact amount as promised.  We never got it. We have the email stating this fact.   There was never any confirmation that he refunded the $4365.00 upon immediately finding out about their error despite what **. [redacted] has stated in his reponse. Again, we have all emails stating the fact.  Finally, after many attempts to collect, we had him [redacted] overnight us a check. We received it on May 9, 2014.   It was in the wrong amount but we weren't going to squabble over it.
Now we are waiting for the repairs to be done on our deck.  One man from his crew, [redacted], came out to our home on April 26, 2014.  He stated that the product was put on the boards while they were still wet and therefore, there were numerous boards that had warped, paint that had peeled and dripping in between boards that was clearly visible.   He admitted that the deck would need to be painted all over again.  We understand that the weather decides on when the repair happens so we are being patient.  We are not willing to wait months and months for the repair.
Because of the amount they charged our credit card over our credit limit, our credit score has dropped more than 30 points putting us in a medium risk category.  Their "accounting error" put us in financial stress because we had to pay an additional $4000.00 to get our credit card under the limit.  **. [redacted] was only able to provide us with a receipt for $2000.00 9 days after we started the process.  We chose [redacted] based on their advertisement on their website that they are a trusted A+ member of the Revdex.com. They, however, are not.  We have problems with their truth in advertising as they cannot justify the 70% savings over deck replacement.   The product does not turn your deck into a composite looking deck as they claim on their radio advertisements.
[redacted] removes all negative comments from their Facebook pages without answering the complaint or contacting the person.  We have spoken to 4 other local individuals with similar situations to ours against [redacted] and Design Daddy Enterprises and they are still seeking routes to correct their situation with not very much luck. They are unable to get return phone calls from **. [redacted].   We have proof of these as well.
In conclusion, [redacted] has not met their contractual requirements based on their 2 year warranty that they offer, their repeated "accounting errors",  their poor customer service and the false statements that have been made on numerous occasions.  We expect to move forward with our deck repair and be done with [redacted].  We, too, have facts based and confirmed on all levels.
Regards,
[redacted] and [redacted]

Review: Deck Daddy, part of Design Daddy, treated the large deck at my country house in [redacted], VA. The work was done on November 1, 2013. Labor and materials were guaranteed for one year (materials for 10). The coating was supposed to fill cracks, but insufficient material was used, and some cracks didn't get any all the way to the bottom. In addition, a significant amount of peeling has occurred since then.

An alternative phone # for the President of the company, Erik H[redacted], is ###-###-####.Desired Settlement: The contractor should purchase more of the paint ([redacted] Deckover), re-prep the areas that are peeling, fill the cracks and apply two coats to the peeling areas.

Review: On May 20th, 2014, I signed a contract with Deck Daddy.com to have my deck protective sealed. Sand boards as needed. Reset all nails on entire deck. Replace boards as needed. Apply 2 coats of deck over, apply 2 coats of protective sealer. Put all furniture back on deck and clean up said debris. At the signing of the contract, I put down an $800.00 deposit that was charged to my [redacted] account. After 2 weeks, 3 weeks went by, and no work had started at all, I call and continue to call almost every other day ###-###-####, to no avail, I am told the call will be forwarded to the field and someone will call you back. No one ever called back. After 15 phone calls to the same number, still no work has been done. On June 20th, 2014, I was sent an email by Erik H[redacted] CEO/President of Deck Daddy stating that he was sorry for the experience that I had with his company and that my refund of $800.00 deposit would be refunded and that it would be put in the mail on June 20th,2014. After a week went by and I did not receive my refund, I call the phone number on the email, which it says it is a cell phone number, ###-###-####, guess what? The mail box is full and can not take anymore calls. Probably because everybody else wants their money back as well. As of today, July 21, 2014, I have yet to receive my refund off $800.00. I had to wait 60 days before I could file a fraudulent charges with my bank which is Suntrust. I did this today and I do have a claim # [redacted]. All I want at this point is to alert others so that no one else falls into this fraudulent company that takes your money and you get nothing in return, not even a phone call to say that they received my 15 calls to no avail. Please help.Desired Settlement: At this time, since I have filed with my bank fraudulent charges against Deck Daddy.com. I just ask that someone research this company so that nobody else gets sucked in by a company like this that just takes your money and you get nothing in return. This is not fair and it makes me sick that they are still advertising on 92.5 [redacted].FM in [redacted], Va. I have also alerted [redacted].FM as well to make them aware. Should you need the original contract and the follow up email from Erik H[redacted], I do have that in my possession. I honestly just want my hard earned money back. I want others to be aware and not fall for this scam. Thank you in advance for anything that you can do to help.

Review: Attention Revdex.com Complaint Department,

Sir or Ma'am,

We are contacting you to submit a complaint against the Deck Daddy Compay, MHIC #[redacted], VA Lic #[redacted], Dc Lic #[redacted], a division of the [redacted]. On the 26th of August my husband and I contracted with Deck Daddy to have some deck work accomplished. That is a decision we have come to deeply regret. We tried conveying our displeasure in discussions a couple of times with Deck Daddy personnel, while the work was being done. After the project was completed we sent them an e-mail on October 4th outlining our issues. On the 9th of October I left a voice message with one of the personnel that had called to arrange final payment. In my voice message I asked to be called to discuss the matter, gave the best contact number, and also explained that they already had the information necessary for payment. I never received a return call; rather my [redacted] was charged that same day for the final payment. On the 15th of October I again sent the company an e-mail; this one contained several photos depicting the poor workmanship. According to "Outlook" the e-mail was opened twice but I never received a reply. The fact that I am submitting a complaint to the Revdex.com, something I have never done before, just exemplifies the level of our displeasure with the work provided by Deck Daddy. If the Deck Daddy website is to be believed, they have an A+ rating with the Revdex.com. I now find that extremely hard to believe.

In what appeared to be poor communications between Deck Daddy and the Subcontractor they employed to do the work on our deck, there were several instances where corrections, or repairs to repairs had to be made. Due to this apparent miscommunication, the subcontractor at one point called their Deck Daddy point of contact to say that the work they thought would take 2 days would require a week. I am not sure what happened after that initial discussion but I do know that the subcontractor personnel then rushed the work to the point that work that should have been accomplished over at least 2 days was crammed into 1 day with the workers continuing to work well after dark. The fact that some of the painting was done after dark is evident in the poor paint job. In the course of putting deck rails back on, at least 4 of the rails were split/broken and just left that way. These rails were not split/broken before Deck Daddy was hired. There are areas where one color paint is dripped or spotted onto the other color paint. There are a couple of areas where they just failed to apply paint at all. The stairway handle/railing was poorly painted; it appears to have only received one coat and the inside area of the handle/railing was basically not painted. There is one support beam where they painted halfway across and then just stopped. There are at least a couple of additional boards that we feel should have been replaced, but were merely painted over. The metal hardware used to secure the hand-rail was just painted over rather than around. This hardware was not previously covered in paint. The wiring for the deck lighting was also just painted over rather than around. After the job was supposedly finished, no one from Deck Daddy bothered to visit and conduct a walk through to confirm the work was done or that we were happy with the finished product. The company simply began contacting us to obtain their final payment. I am more than happy to provide photos that depict the poor quality of the workmanship.

I am not sure what it takes to receive an A+ rating with the Revdex.com, but based on the results of the work we contracted Deck Daddy to do, I would only give them a C+ rating.Desired Settlement: I would like a partial refund (approximately 1/3) due to the poor quality of the work performed so that I may use these funds to help when I hire another contractor next Spring to provide a proper level of workmanship. I plan to have the deck at least repainted next Spring. In light of the fact that a final inspection was never conducted by the company and the company chose to not provide any response to our written complaints, I do not have any faith in company personnel to properly resolve this matter.

Response:

I personally visited with the [redacted] on November 11th and visually inspected their deck.

I agreed with them that there were several areas of the deck requiring touch-up and two deck boards in need of being replaced. I prepared a "punch out" list and the work is scheduled.

As for the color of the deck, **. and [redacted] did acknowledge that the color specified on their contract was the color used on their deck and they have withdrawn this as a matter of concern. We did offer to repaint the deck in another color other than the one chosen on the contract and they declined.

Once the follow-up work is completed, I will report back with a final update.

Sincerely,

Jack W[redacted]

I would like to contest the matter that this complaint is "closed". While a representative did visit on 11 November we disagree with results. One, while the topic of paint color did come up, I made the statement that I now realized what had gone wrong but could not prove it. The representative "Jack" did offer to repaint the deck but ONLY at additional charges and THAT is what we declined. There was no offer to simply repaint the deck. Additionally, while the company representative did annotate additional repairs the one time someone showed up to make the repairs approximately 2 weeks later on 25 November the worker showed up, said it was too cold and left. We have basically not heard from the company since before Thanksgiving AND no repairs have been made. As far as we are concerned, our original complaint has not been satisfied and we are even less pleased with Deck Daddy than before.

Review: I contracted Deck Daddy to fix my deck. It was supposed to be a 3 part process. Power wash, then replace bad wood and make the deck structurally sound and then apply 2 coats of stain. So far they power washed it and someone came a used white paint to show which boards should be replaced. Now I have a multicolor deck with all the white paint. They never came back to finish and have returned none of my calls or emails. I am out close to $1700.00 for the deposit and by the amount of time that has passed the deck would need to be power washed again to apply stain. The total price stated is $5088 but I have only paid the initial deposit.Desired Settlement: I want a total refund as now my deck is in worse shape than it was before the power wash with all the white paint on it.

Review: This complaint is being submitted on behalf of my Mother. This letter is in reference to the unfortunate experience that she has had with Deck Daddy beginning from June 29, 2014 to current. I do not know that I will ever receive my refund because Deck Daddy has not been complying with the contract that was agreed upon. Below is a detailed description of all of the events that have taken place.

A contract was signed on Sunday, June 29, 2014 for the following work to be done at my home. Below are the events and phone calls that have taken place since June 29, 2014.

Work discussed between my mother and Alan H[redacted] of Deck Daddy:

Deck repairs To include replacing approximately 9-11 boards.

Tighten the deck itself to the house for stability.

Pressure wash and seal deck

Prep deck for the Deck Cover paint/solution

Pressure wash and seal the back yard fence

Prep fence for the Deck Cover paint/solution to match the deck.

A deposit was paid by check on June 29th.

June 29, 2014

Estimate was prepared and contract was signed by both Alan and my mother.

Alan H[redacted]

Contract signed

June 30, 2014

Alan was supposed to call me to let me know who the deposit check was going to be made out to (on 6/29 he instructed me to leave the “Pay to the Order of…: spot on the check blank. In the memo section of the check Alan did write “Deck Daddy Deposit”

The check was made out to Deck Daddy.

9:43am 7/3

Alan H[redacted] called and left a voice mail on the house phone, when I told him to call me at work or my cell phone - his voice mail message said that he wanted to discuss what kind of job I wanted done on my deck.

July 3, 2014

I was concerned that my deposit check had already been cashed and still did not have an appointment date confirmed to begin the work. I called the main # and reached a customer service rep. that said she would have someone to call me from Deck Daddy.

Alexander (female)

Never received a call.

I called Alan and he said he would call me back to find out what was a good time to come by since my daughter was off work. After that I still had not heard from Alan to confirm a time. I was under the impression that he would still be coming by on this day. I called the main # and that is when I spoke to Alexander.

July 4th

I called the main # at 10:40am and it sent me to the company that was based out of Oregon. I explained that I wanted my deposit back and she said she, Patricia (Oregon) would ‘red flag’ the message to make sure I received a call back.

No call.

July 7, 2014

I called the main # and was told the same thing as on July 4th.

Jackie (MD)

No call

July 7, 2014

In the afternoon, I called again and was told the same thing. I asked for the owners name or a manager and was told that this information was not available.

Did not get the customer service representatives name.

No call

Since I typed this letter, I have not received a refund and I have not heard from anyone from Deck Daddy indicating that I would be receiving a refund.Desired Settlement: All I am requesting is that my Mother be refunded (either in cash or a cashiers check) the deposit that she put down for the work to be done on her deck. The amount is $1815.00

Review: We contracted with deck daddy to resurface our deck May 1, 2014. We placed a downpayment of $2766.00. Work was to commence the following week. The workers came out to powerwash the deck but have not returned to complete the resurfacing. We have made numerous calls and emails to the salesman, sales manager and to the coowner. To no avail ,the service has not started as promised and we are now requesting to terminate the contract within two days. The coowner promised to complete within the week if we did not cancel the contract. Based on his assurances that resurfacing would be completed numerous times, we were told today they would definitely be at our house to provide service. No service or phone call was provided.Desired Settlement: We want our initial down payment of $2766.00 returned.

Review: I prepaid $600 to deck daddy but they did not complete the job. I attempted to contact them but they have refused to pick up and return my calls.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of $600 since deck daddy did not finish their work on my deck.

Review: In November 2013 I contracted with DeckDaddy (Bill H[redacted]) for the resurfacing of my deck for $6,537. I was guaranteed a 10-year structural and surface warranty however the painting has begun chipping/coming off. I contacted DeckDaddy via their internet address (DeckDaddy.com) requesting a repair to my deck and I have not received a response. And I also receive no response/answer whenever I call the number listed on the contract.Desired Settlement: I would like my deck resurfaced or a refund since the quality did not live up to what was stated in the contract.

Review: A contract was signed on 4/09/and a deposit was paid by credit card (1329.00)The company power-washed my deck approx week later, then I heard nothing from them about completing the jobOn my May credit card statement I noticed that Deckdaddy took the balance of WITHOUT my permission AND without completing the contracted jobNumerous calls to the company went unanswered until finally I reached a switchboard operatorEventually I spoke with Brian M[redacted] from the company and he promised to have my job completed (top priority)A few more weeks went by and still no work was scheduledMy wife got a call from a production manager and she requested our money to be refunded in totalShe then received a call from the company's CEO on June 13, He apologized for the mix up and delays we have experienced, offered a discount if we would agree to have the work done, and offered to send us his contact information should we have questionsMy wife suggested he call me to discuss the situation, but I never heard from him nor did I get the promised contact information on my emailToday, 6/16/14, I called the company again and I received NO response by close of business.Desired Settlement: I would like the contract cancelled and my money refunded for a total of I would like this completed by June 20, because I have already paid my credit card bill

Review: [redacted] charged our credit card AND cashed a check for $4365.00 for the same service. We have been trying to collect a refund to our card and they are not responding to our requests. Have started disputing the charges with our credit card company. These charges have made our account exceed the credit limit and will put our credit into jeopardy.Desired Settlement: We would like a refund of the $4365.00 they took from us twice as well as an additional $500 for the time and stress this has caused us during our work days to try to reach the owner, [redacted] and the sales person.

Review: First and foremost- the full charges for the work were charged to my CC before any work being done or being scheduled. I had agreed only to the deposit required until the work was completed. There were many scheduling issues and it took them several weeks to even start the project. When discussing this with the owner, Erik H[redacted], he verbally committed to a refund for my trouble. After the work was done, I contacted him and the technician regarding problems with their work and sent pictures. I requested repairs on multiple occasions and was ensured it would get addressed. This all started back in March with the unauthorized charges to my CC and I have yet to get any resolution on the repairs or credit promised.Desired Settlement: Full Refund for the time and trouble in the amount of $5376.00.

Review: On May I met with the Project Manager assigned to me by Deck Daddy for an estimate for deck resurfacingAfter the meeting, I made the decision to contract for these services with Deck Daddy, as the process described would yield the results desired for my deckI signed a contract with Deck Daddy, to include a $down payment, and coordination to begin work after May 26, On May 30, (Friday), an employee from Deck Daddy came to my home as scheduledIn the initial discussion with the project manager, I was told that there would be a team to come to my home, remove the furniture and all items from the deck, and then proceed for Phase 1, power washing (there are phases to the deck restoration process)The employee came to home alone, so required assistance from my daughter to remove items from the deckThe time that this employee was at my home was one hour, minutes of which was actual time spent power washing the deck, and he only let me know he was leaving and provided no opportunity for me to look at the work completedI was surprised that he was at my home for such a short period of timeMy deck is large, and includes a handicapped rampPower washing has been done on my deck every summer, and always took much longerAs this is the first critical step, I would think that there would be meticulous attention to the quality of workUnfortunately the deck was no power washed in all areas, and merely looked like a deck wet with a power washerI phone the Project Manager on June (Monday), and shared my concerns and dissatisfaction with the power wash, and asked him to come and look at the resultsOn June 3, he came to my house and agreed that the power wash done did not meet the Deck Daddy standardAfter much though and deliberation, I made the decision to request to cancel the contact signed on May 14, and request a full refund of my down paymentThe Project Manager sent a letter from me, dated June to MrErik H[redacted], via e-mail, notifying him of my dissatisfaction and my request to cancel the contractHe include pictures and his assessment of the work doneThe intent of my request was to stop any additional work by Deck DaddyI lost trust and confidence that my deck would be resurfaced in the way that is was advertised in accordance to the BehrDeck Over Products and commensurate with the estimated charge for the entire process (~$6000)Interestingly, a team from Deck Daddy arrived at my home, without advance coordination, to begin Phase of the resurfacing processI did not allow any work to be done as a result of my request to cancel the contract, and frankly because in my opinion based on what I was told about the process, the deck was not readyTo date, I have heard nothing from any Deck Daddy representative regarding my request and have not received a full refund of my down paymentThe only representative from Deck Daddy that I have had any communication with is the Project Manager, and that is only to tell me that he has received nothing about my dissatisfaction or my requestOn July I contacted Deck Daddy at their office in [redacted], Maryland a ###-###-####, and spoke for ~minutes to a customer service representative who assured me that my concern would be shared with a regional manager, and that I would be contacted by the next dayThis contact did not occur.Desired Settlement: Although I realize that I entered into a contract with Deck Daddy, I did so in good faith, believing that the services provided would be commensurate with the claims of Deck DaddyThe fact that I have not had any contact from any representative other than the Project Manager illustrates to me that there is no priority for the customer, or customer serviceVery disappointingI would like to break this contract and get my deposit back

Review: We hired Deck Daddy to resurface our deck. the advertisemens claimed the deck would be smooth, any bad boards replaced and no surface

nails showing. The contract stated a 10 year warranty on structural an surface. We were required to pay 1/3 down. Our credit card was charged $1,105 on March 24th. Upon completion of the work, we were charged $3,045, which was to have been the total for the job. After many calls to Erik H[redacted], we were finally able to have him Immediately the paint begins peeling and continues to peel. It looks much worse than when we began. We have called, texted, and emailed that we want our deck done correctly. We have done this every day....sometimes he makes promises to be here that day, but never shows. For the last week, he has not responded in any form. AND, on July10, he billed our credit card for $3,045 for no services, The credit card company is investigating fraud on that charge.Desired Settlement: I believe the credit card company will take care of the July 10 billing, but I would like to have my initial payment refunded as I need to hire someone who knows what they are doing to fix my deck .

Review: On March 29, 2014 [redacted] Regional Sales Manager for DeckDaddy came to our home, described their service for refinishing wood decks and we then signed a contract in the amount of $3,045. A deposit of $1,030 was paid by credit card with the balance due after the work was completed. **. [redacted] led us to believe we would hear from their Service Manager within a few days to schedule the work.On April 4 2014, I phoned **. [redacted] asking why we hadn't heard from anyone. he told me to call the office. I did. Twice. And as of today (May 15 2014) still have not heard from anyone at DeckDaddy. When I received my credit card statement showing the deposit, I immediately called my bank to dispute the charge. Yesterday, May 14 2014, I received a new statement and saw that DeckDaddy had again charged my credit card for the balance due even though no work has been done and no one has contacted me! I have also filed a complaint with the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection.Desired Settlement: Complete and immediate credit issued in the amount of $3,045 against my credit card as well as a letter of apology from the president of the company.
