Review: I purchased a retractable patio awning for $4000 and signed a contract on September 5, 2013. I used the awning about 5 times, and then the weather did not permit the use of the product. On April 2014 I attempted to open the awning and it would not open, only close. I needed to hand crank it to open, and at that time, it would close with the hand held device. Within a week it would not open or close. I sent [redacted], President, of Designer Home Improvements, an email. I heard nothing. I resent an email on May 19, 2014. Explained the issue and was told, (without anyone coming and looking at it), that it was the motor and this happens time to time. Not to worry it was under warranty. But I had to pay a $100 installation fee to have this corrected. Plus its been a month waiting for a motor! I am still waiting to use this product and it is less 8 months old. Also, when the awning was installed, the man that installed it, asked if I was in need of my table umbrella and asked to purchase it from me. I agreed, and we both agreed on a price of $50. I have never received payment for that either.Desired Settlement: Replacement of motor, no fee of $100 for installation, and my $50 for my table umbrella.

Review: In March 2012 we contracted with [redacted] of Designer Home Improvements for retractable screens in the amount of $10,930.00. Our initial payment to [redacted] was $4930.00 and he began installation in April 2012. The project was delayed because one of the panels had to be returned to the manufacturer because it was ordered too wide and needed to be recut. In the interim my employer offered me a transfer to [redacted], Pa. and I accepted it. When my wife mentioned to [redacted] that we would be selling the house and what a shame it was that we had started the project in this house, [redacted] said it would be no problem to remove the screens, have them all resized and reinstall them in the new house we decided to build. We agreed to pay him $5500.00, holding only $500.00 back until the screen installation was completed. We sent him an e-mail on April 30, 2012 stating what he had said to us that the resizing would be of minimal cost and that we agreed to pay the shipping. He responded by e-mail the same day accepting the terms of the agreement. [redacted] told us to keep him updated on when he would need to come measure for the screens at the new house. Between the summer of 2012 and the beginning of December we left [redacted] messages regarding the progress of the new house. Once the porch was up our builder told us that [redacted] could come to measure. We left [redacted] multiple messages with no response. Finally he answered his phone and told me he had been sick. We told him to come measure when he was feeling better. Many weeks went by and he still hadn't shown so we called again and again no response. Then the builder called and [redacted] answered and said he would come. Several weeks passed and he still didn't come. When he finally answered one of my many phone calls he said he had hurt his back. More time went by and we left more messages for him to let us know when he could come to measure. He did finally show up the middle of May. We had just moved in and he took the measurements and said it should take a few weeks. Towards the end of June we called and no response. Then on July 3, 2013 my wife was able to reach him and he said he would be away until July 14 and he would contact us then. We did not hear from him so I called [redacted] on July 29. He told me that the screens could be resized but that it would cost just as much to cut the original screens as to purchase new ones. He said he could give us new screens at his cost and would call us by the end of the day with the amount. But to date we have not heard back from him. My wife called the manufacturer, [redacted], LLC in [redacted], Florida to ask if the screens could be recut but she was told that they would contact [redacted], who was one of their biggest distributors, and the regional sales manager. Two days later when we didn't hear from the manufacturer, my wife called again and they told her that they could not help us. When she asked what we should do they told her to contact [redacted] and/or an attorney.Desired Settlement: Given the inadequate and unacceptable service we have received from Designer Home Improvements we would be hesitant to allow them to continue with this project. We would not be comfortable for them to install anything for us. We would like our money to be refunded.
