Consumer's Original Complaint :
Failure by the company to reimburse for damage their employees and equipment caused.
This is a review of Stanley Steamer's work of [redacted], ** (XXX-XXX-XXXX)
From James ** U[redacted] XXXXX-XXXX
On 6/24/2014, we employed Stanley Steamer of [redacted] to clean my mother-in-laws bedroom, bath and hallway at [redacted] in [redacted] We used Stanley Steamer at her insistence rather than Absolute Clean, our usual cleaner. (We personally had a prior disagreement with one of the Stanley Steamer workers after he wrongly indicated I was untruthful about doing some cleaning on a room that only their company had previously cleaned. He was very rude, and in retrospect, I should have requested that he leave the premises.)
On the date in question, two Stanley Steamer carpet technicians arrived, backed their truck up into the driveway toward the overhead garage door, and proceeded doing their work. My wife continued to work in the garage, in proximity to their truck. After a short period of time, a hose fitting on their solvent feeder hose broke, and sprayed the entire half of the garage and its contents, with cleaning solution. Unfortunately, at that exact moment, my wife was working on that side of the garage, and received the brunt of the spray, dousing her clothes and face. Fortunately, she was wearing a pair of large glasses, which shielded her eyes somewhat. She immediately rinsed her eyes and changed out of her wet clothing, which minimized any lasting bodily injury.
One of the technicians discovered the loss of cleaning solution at their end, and immediately came out to the truck, discovered the breakage, and turned off the machine. By then however, the damage had already been done, drenching the car, the walls, the ceiling, the overhead garage door, two antique chests and their contents, hanging clothing, and other items in the fallout area.
The technician apologized profusely, and said that the matter would be taken care of, and the carpet cleaning job would be done at "No Charge". I asked if he wanted us to call a restoration company such as Service-Pro, or to do the cleanup ourselves and send them the bill for reimbursement. We decided among the three of us to take care of the damage "in-house" in order to limit expenses to their company. This turned out to be a BIG mistake on our part.
During the next few weeks, we cleaned up most of the mess ourselves, took the car to the car wash, the clothes to the dry cleaner, and ran other cleaning related errands. We also hired a cleaning professional to try and wash the solution stains from the walls, but her efforts were unsuccessful. The wall ultimately required repainting. We decided to donate the two antique chests to Goodwill, as the cleaning solution had discolored the wood and lifted the veneer. In order to save Stanley Steamer further expenses, we only valued the chests at $25.00 each to them rather than have the chests professionally restored at a probable cost of $100.00 plus each.
On 8/12/2014, our cleanup completed, I spoke with the Stanley Steamer operator "Doris", and advised her that the cost of our restoration was $229.34. She requested that I FAX an itemized bill to her at 937-398-6806, which we did.
A short time later, we received a voicemail from Doris indicating that we would be receiving a check for the difference between their carpet cleaning bill and our cleanup expenses, somewhere in the neighborhood of $12.00 and some change, as I recall.
On 8/26/2014, I again phoned Doris and advised her that this offered settlement would not be satisfactory, as we had spent numerous hours doing cleanup, washing, and related things ourselves. She stated that she would have their supervisor "Blake" or "Doug" call us to discuss the problem. As of April 7, 2015, we are still waiting for someone from Stanley Steamer to contact us regarding our complaint.
In a nutshell, our relationship with this company has been extremely unsatisfactory, to say the least. Would we hire them again? Absolutely NOT!

Consumer's Desired Resolution:
Refund of the amount we spent on cleaning up damage caused by their employees and equipment in the amount of $229.24 plus interest, and 5 hours of our labor at $25.00 per hour, for a total reimbursement of $354.24.
