Review: This business is a furniture and related consignment operation. We had one remaining item at the store which did not sell. When I appeared to pickup the item, I also asked for a check owed to us. The amount owed was small, however it indicates a pattern of what can only be regarded as theft. I was told that they only issue checks for $20 and above. I understand that this is the practice in many of these types of businesses. However, in other businesses of this type we have worked with, when we no longer had anything on consignment with the store, we were paid the complete amount owed to us. Having told the manager that we did not have anything else we would consign to them now or in the future, I asked for the check. She told me in no uncertain terms that they would withhold the funds owed us permanently in that case. Those funds belong to us and by her refusal to return those funds to us and indicating they would never return them, we regarded this as the store stealing our money. She lead me around the store and showed me products I could buy that would use up those funds, but we did not want to buy anything from them at all. She kept telling me "this is our policy". I asked her if stealing was the store's policy and she did not answer. We had no recourse but to contact the Revdex.com of Wisconsin to file this complaint, hoping that, by filing this complaint we might force them to return these funds since they are ours, and to prevent them from doing this to any other of their customers.Desired Settlement: We want the money owed to us in a very timely manner. We also want the Revdex.com to downgrade their business rating to reflect this policy which is, obviously, wrong!

Response:

After reviewing the complaint. As well as speaking to the sales associated who worked with [redacted] the person with the account. All procedures were handled correctly. We have their signed contract which is also posted our on web site for all to review before consigning with my company. Our contract does state we cut checks after earning $20.00 or more on a monthly basics. Any money under 20.00 stays on the clients account indefinitely. If at anytime a client would like to spend there earned money as store credit that is always a option. [redacted] certainly made it clear that she was not happy with this as she addressed my sales staff. However when her husband came in to retrieve the one item left as well as there check this same day. My sales associated again went over the protocol that we follow. He made it clear this was not a concern as they had more items to consign in the near future. My goal is to build a long term relationship with all of our buying and selling clients.

I have reached out to the complaint with no response. If at anytime [redacted] or Steve would like to pick up there $8.39 that is listed on their account they are welcomed to do that at the Hartland location. They would need to call and confirm that I (the owner) would be available as I do have pending appointments regularly. This would assure all cash would have a receipt for the transaction. We do not issue lesser checks as anything under 20.00. If she would like to permanently close her account she would need to do it in person again at our Hartland location. As I am the only one who handles this type of situation. Again at that time she can have her $8.39 in cash with a signed receipt of transaction.

The owner of this consignment shop is very rude and disrespectful to potential consignees. She hung up on me on the telephone and when I called back, she said she did so intentionally. She didn't like that I called her snotty/nasty. I was trying to ask questions and she interrupted me and WAS very disrespectful. She told me to come pick up what I had dropped off for her to take on consignment because she didn't want "people like you as consginees." And she hung up onme again. Very poor business practice.
