Booked a room at DoubleTree in OrlandoArrived at the hotel to find out that the reservation never went through, even though I was already chargedVery unreliable company

Despegar.com took my money but completely screwed up the reservations I ended up paying for one room twice All communication with Despegar.com initially reassured me everything would be taken care of, it was not and all communication from the site has stopped now I believe they are a front for a Drug cartel

I purchased a flight in Argentina from Despegar.com. When I had a problem, there was no way to get in touch with a customer service representative. All options on the automated phone system for the number listed on their page referred me to their website. The website had no way for me to send an email to the company. Even though the airline that my ticket was for offers options to resolve my issue, if you buy the ticket through Despegar, you have to go through Despegar.com to fix the problem but they make it impossible for you to be able to reach a person to fix anything.

I will never use this site again and NEVER recommend them to anyone. Please stay away, use Expedia or some other U.S. well known website that responds better to problems and has a great usability and reputation.
I recently booked my hotel stay with despegar.com. for 1 adult and 2 children and my initial reservation (showing 1 adult and 2 kids) looked fine before I put in my credit card number. I pre-paid for the trip and received a confirmation that was a "pdf attachment" and assumed that everything is still ok because I just verified all the info on the computer screen before entering my credit card. However, when I was checking into the hotel in Mexico, Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya Resort & Spa, I gave the hotel agent 3 passports (mine and two others for my boys ages 7 and 9), my reservation in the hotel system said 2 adults and not 1 adult and 2 kids which was incorrect. I said to the hotel agent that it must be a despegar.com mistake and that we should call them.
I waited for more than 2 hours for my problem to be fixed which was not even fixed at the end. The despegar agent that answered our call 45 minutes later, said that they will call us back with a solution and me and my two kids waited tired, hungry and miserable another 45 minutes (after being on a long flight and taking a one hour taxi ride from CUN airport) for her to call us back and let us know that it is not their problem, the hotel will have to fix my problem. The hotel fixed my problem by making me pay more money. The hotel agent [redacted] did not let me check in until I paid an additional $471.
At the end, I overpaid for the room and had no help from the booking agency despegar.com. My first day at the hotel was so miserable because I felt helpless in a foreign country and could not do anything about it. On top of it all, the hotel agent said in the mean tone "this is Mexico, not America, and we do things differently here" I think he meant that customer service that we expect in America when we have issues is too nice and in Mexico it is more harsh because he told me I can leave the hotel or if I want to stay and check in, I have to pay extra $471.
When I finally checked in, emailed despegar.com and I waited for the despegar.com. to respond to my email asking them to help me with the additional cost (after all, their website somehow made the switch 2 children for an adult). They responded back and said there is nothing they can do. I called them again over the phone, and same thing, they cannot help me. I will never use this site again and NEVER recommend them to anyone. Please stay away, use Expedia or some other U.S. well known website that responds better to problems and has a great usability and reputation.

SCAM: I made a reservation through Despegar.com for 4 nights at Hotel Blu in FL: Facilities were not what was shown on pictures, problems with the credit card charges, and no real offices to talk to someone for customer service. Avoid!
