Details for Construction Reviews (%countItem)

Overall, the work is good and we are extremely happy with the phyisical results. However, our time working with Details Construction had left a sour taste in our mouths, likely losing from any consideration for future projects we have planned. Our chief complaints are as follows:

-We paid in full for the door/sidelite. In fact, the cost of the entryway doors were more than originally estimated due to the insistence on your part the need to reframe with a new door. Upon denying the simple act of removing the quarter rounds to swap out glass panels due to building codes, we had a window contractor at the house explain the sidelights installed are not up to code anyway, making it all moot.
In additon, the glass type is not at all remotely what we asked for. The framing of the door should have been a one day project easily done on site reusing the old door. Combined with using the cheaper material of vinyl means we overpaid for the result.
Had we known that the material they intended to use (only identified by a blurry picture that looked like matching wood like the rest of the windowed doors in the house), the dimensions and glass type, we would have considered other options like quality premanufactured sets of doors with sidelights, double doors, or no changes at all.

-Through the turnstile employment of the office staff (They can't keep office staff or contractors around long), items in Buildertrend were irregularly inputted, making payment for labor and items line by line muddled. The result is a feeling of overpaying for labor and items that were abandoned from the scope of work. The use of Buildertrend should be completely committed to or use the of easily to access documentation by Details should be used for accurate reporting of costs.

-While we agreed to a time limit- and will admits the mistake on our part placing no consequences in the contract- , expectations were sorely missed by the time management on their part. There was no reason ever provided to explain the constant delay of labor on site or the ordering or manufacturing key items, like kitchen cabinents, the front door or shower glass. All these items should have been planned accordingly and ordered within a reasonable time once payments were initidated. The result is a project nearly three times the stated length where near full months of no work was performed.

-We know some of the problems come from the high turnover of office employees that allowed constant miscommunication through the entire project. Several subcontractors have also expressed that little to no instructions or plans were passed along to them. The door/sidelites, may be a symptom of original intent lost through not dealing with the same staff at the beginning of the project to the end. The problem was compounded by Kevin not regualry visiting the site to make sure that work was initially done as we described or errors fixed when they happened.

-Laslty, Flora, the one original member left on the project and leader of the company, the one who we consulted and did initial walkthroughs with has refused to personally see the results, despite knowing our deep dissatisfaction with errors counter to what she pitched. The person who pitches promises and good results needs to see them through. Flora, representing a company named to highlight a personal and thorough touch, has ignored the details that matter.

We suspect the innatentive nature of Details during the project may be because they have over extended their workload. Both Kevin and Flora may have taken on too much at once.

We would like to highlight one person that we have enjoyed working with. Janaina has been consistent about being specific, timely and organized, virtues the rest of the company seems to lack, especially highlighting the shortfalls of the previous project manager. She demonstrated the professionalism and problem solving expected in any kind of business. She was contsanty checking in on site and kept us apprised of all work and consulted regularly on most items before installing.

UPDATE:

My name is Adam *** and a few weeks ago left a review with our experience with Details Construction Group in Orlando. Since posting the review they've been in contact and resolved some of the issues listed in the review. I'd love to be able to update the review to now reflect the most recent outcomes.
