Worst customer service I’ve ever seen…
I made the mistake of recommending a family members consider a modular home and brought them to Detray’s. They found their dream home and like many of the other reviews here, Detray’s staff was responsive but once they receive all the money the switch flipped and now they only communication is by my family members pleading for updates and only crickets from Detrays. Like other review there are issues with the home and Detrays stated they would make it right, but now two months later Jonathan stated he never said that. I had Dana Detray state it directly to me, yet now they are not standing behind the product they sell. You’d think it was a $2 widget instead of the $300k home with how dismissive and cavalier with their customers lives. I see their BS response to one customer about being a top rated retailer, yes you’re good at selling but extremely poor at customer service. Shame on them and buyer beware. Maybe the Washington State Attorney Generals office consumer complaint dept needs to review the business practices here.

The absolute worse purchasing experience of any kind we have ever had. I wish I could issue a minus 5 star rating. Two years of our lives put on hold because of non existent customer service, rude treatment, extortion, lies and so much more.
If it appeals to you to pay construction loan house payments month after month and utilities on a fully functioning home that you are locked out of, then these are the people you want to do business with. I think its ok to peek in the windows, but you will have to look around a very large sign advertising for DeTray’s. We have been living in an RV in our driveway with a sani can as a restroom for over 6 months now. Our house has been here for over two months, but they just can’t find the time to come do the dry wall fixes and lay the carpet, so here we sit, day after day, week after week, month after month making payments on something we are not allowed to use.

If it sounds entertaining to you to deal with a contractor that charges some pretty outrageous prices and when you question the costs, they walk away from you forcing you to find your own contractor. (our attorney said at this point DeTrays were in breach of contract, but we didn’t know that back then). The contractor we found, after talking with several, did the job for less than half the price of DeTrays contractor and did an amazing job.

Or if you want to waste your time with DeTrays banker that fiddles around month after month asking for the same paperwork over and over and after you pay thousands of dollars for inspections, permits and even an appraisal, he denies you the loan forcing you to go through it all over again with a competent banker that can approve you in a week. If this sounds fun, then let DeTray’s hook you up.

If you have a lot of extra money laying around that you don’t know what to do with, here is the answer to your problem. After having to find your own contractor and learn the business taking lots of time you didn’t know you were going to have to spend and obviously delaying your project. When your house is completed, and sitting on a lot somewhere, you will get a “demand letter” from them telling you your site prep must be completed or you will face storage and interest fees on a house that you don’t own, have never seen and don’t have on your property. When our site was ready only a couple of months later, they held our house hostage till we could cough up several thousand dollars in extortion fees.

If you enjoy doing business with people who continually set appointments with you and are chronic “no-call, no-shows”, then you came to the right place at DeTray’s.

When you first put down your earnest money, they are responsive and polite, but after you write that check and walk away, all of the promises of “in a few months you will be in your new home”, etc.. go out the window. They have zero customer service towards their current customers and only care about selling more homes. You will be put off time after time because of home shows or special sales, or just because they are short staffed or my favorite, “they have other priorities”.

When I replied to their email with “I waited all day and no one showed”, after being stood up time after time for appointments that they had made with us regarding our site. I was responded to with an email stating “is she drunk?” I have been called “drunk”,“crazy” and “stupid” and they have said personally demeaning things about us to our contractors. This project has been going on for 2 years now, and we still can’t live in our house.

If it sounds fun to live like homeless people on your own property and enjoy going to the laundry mat twice a week for months and months, then buy a house from these guys. They have no timelines, contracts, appointments or promises that can’t be broken or changed at their whim. You too could be as unfortunate.

Do not do business with these people.

We love our manufactured home purchased from De Trays on South Hill of Puyallup in 2015. Owners Dana and Diane D are for sure some of the “best in the west” proprietors. From the outset to this present moment they have demonstrated genuine caring, honesty, integrity and have gone the 2nd mile to ensure that our needs and concerns are met. They are experts in their field. We highly recommend this custom housing LLC.

Our process started in May of 2018! Our home was off the production line in August!
We were told after choosing finishes to Communicate only with the project manager!
Communication was more than a challenge !
We were told in Dec after I had to call to find out what was happinging thatvwe could have moved in yesterday - well then I was told I was sarcastic and rude ! Well if we have no key moving in was of course not possible!
I was then told they were done with us - they of course had all they money so they may have been done but we were not in our house! Because no one put in the baseboards we were done giving money so they were done with us ! We spend New Years installing the baseboards ! Communication was the biggest issue besides the owner being rude to me !
Our Skyline Home is well made and we are very pleased with their product but their representatives from DeTrays do not give the customer service that would have made the entire process what it should have been !

I purchased a manufactured home through DeTray's Custom Housing which was cleared for move in January of 2018. I received a bill for $285 from DeTray's for a water heater repair that I did not think I was responsible for. I called Michael D several at DeTray's several times and sent him a copy of the bill on Nov 5, 2018 to resolve this issue. He told me that I was overcharged and would receive a new bill for $125, which I agreed to pay. On Feb 4, 2019 I received a call from a collector that DeTray's had sent the original $285 bill to them for collection. When I called Micheal at DeTray's he said he would resolve it, but now I have an email from Amanda B at DeTray's saying she will not remove the amount from collection until I pay it. I called DeTray's at least 5 times since receiving the first bill to resolve this issue, and every time I was told it would be resolved, nothing happened. I believe I have very reasonable on my end to resolve this, but DeTray's has been non responsive, and now over aggressive.

DeTrays Custom Housing Response • Feb 23, 2019

We received the payment from *** and will proceed to remove the bill from collections as agreed.

We came to DeTray’s to purchase a modular home for our family in August 2016. After more than 2 years delay with multiple price increases, we are now dealing with another nightmare.
After the delivery of the home to the site, we found out that our cabinets were not built to what we ordered. Immediately, we proactively asked to meet with the owner and his employees several times but was always met with hesitation. Finally, we had a face to face meeting with the project manager Michael, and found out that someone (employee) at DeTray’s made a mistake on compiling the order form from the one and only one color sheet.
DeTray's is the sale representative for our purchase. DeTray's employee, the sales manager is responsible to check, clarify and making sure that all informations are correct, filled out and dated accordingly. They are the expert in the their sale documents and process to order our home with their builder. DeTray's sales manager made a mistake in their process and now the owner, Dana, is refusing to accept and correct his employee's mistakes.
Since we started working with DeTray's, there are many staffs turnover. We had 3 different sales managers and have to constantly catching their mistakes along the way. We have all email correspondences as evidence to what we are saying.
We started this process before I was pregnant, and now our son is almost 11 months old, but still, no sign of occupancy permit.
I would put zero star if there is an option.

If this review saves even one person the headaches we have been through with this business it will be worth it. Do not purchase a home from DeTrays. Communication is non existent. Customer service is a joke! We purchased our home in June 2017 and its still not completed. We have made 3 payments on a home we can't live in. When trying to resolve the many issues, we have gotten a lot of excuses and nothing else. Our bank deadline is next week. There's no way our house will be done. You would think they would be out here daily to get it done in time but no one has been out here for two weeks. They have literally failed us on every level and at this point we aren't even certain that the home is stable.
I read these reviews just like everyone else and when I see negative ones I just assume the person had one thing go wrong and blew it out of proportion. Believe me, that is not the case here. We have tried to be understanding and accommodating. It has made no difference.

We started working with Detrays in the beginning of June. We were interested in getting a manufactured home on order before we moved in the beginning of July. The first person we worked with had our account and needed to finish some paperwork before we sent our information to the builder to pay our down payment. We waited 2 weeks before we heard back from Mike. Once we were finally able to get ahold of him the paperwork was still not ready. We waited another 3 days. Both days calling multiple times trying to get in touch with Dana D, the owner. We were never connected to Dana after multiple attempts. Instead we were connected with a manager, Jonathan. While Jonathan was moderately more responsive, we still always wait 4-6 days before responding to our emails. In more than one email we requested a drawing for the pit set so that we could have the dirt work quoted by a contractor. We never received it. We also called their preferred contractor 6 or more times to have him out. One time he said he would call us right back and never returned the call. We never did get ahold of him. We put down $500 of earnest money, which was told to us we could refund $400 if we didn't order the house. I understand that in the signed earnest money agreement they have the right to keep it for service rendered. The level of service we received was poor. Jonathan mentioned that he worked 20 hours in our case. I can't understand how that could be. I'd be happy to settle for $200 for the work he completed and I believe for our hardship in having to work with Detrays it would be fair for us to receive $200 of the earnest money back.

DeTrays Custom Housing Response

We have processed the *** refund check. They should have received it by now.

I purchased a new home from Detrays and after many weeks of delays the house was finally delivered to our property in Packwood Wa. It was set up within 3 days and then it all came to a screeching halt. First it was going to be done by Memorial Day, then the middle of June, then July 4th. I finally had to drive to Puyallup and kick and scream to finally get my house finished to the point we could finally move in. We moved in on July 7th and now nearly 3 weeks later, we still cannot cook meals in our new home because they neglected to send all of the pieces to our propane cook top in the kitchen, we can’t test our propane fireplace because they neglected to wire it for operation and they haven’t installed the chimney and cap yet. And worst of all, after 2 ½ months the eve of my new home is still open to the animals and the elements due to a manufacturing mistake at the factory and nobody I talk to at Detrays or the *** factory seem concerned enough to even call me back to discuss when these issues will be addressed.
Just a word of caution, when you’re looking at new homes at Detrays they make everything sound really nice and you get “a lot” of attention. After the order is placed and they have received the funds for your new home, my experience tells me you will have many disappointments and a great deal of stress trying to get your home completed. When any of the Detrays team tells you, “I’ll look in to that and get back to you” don’t plan on hearing from them again until you track them down, because that has been my experience throughout this whole process.

DeTrays Custom Housing Response

We are pleased that DeTray's Custom Housing is the top retailer for quality manufactured homes in the Puget Sound Area. We pride ourselves in quality service as well. Mr. & Mrs. has been caught up in tidal wave of home orders delaying the delivery process. They did receive that home custom built as ordered, our company elected to purchase a builders service package, "Skycare" which is offered by the builder of the home. The builder is to perform the home service, and we are to coordinate that effort with the customers General Contractor and factory representatives. With the high volume of business *** and DeTray's are experiencing, it does require the customer to be patient to allow the process to mature, parts to be ordered, and the service to be performed by the builder. Mr. had his home orientation and were given keys less than a month ago. The service per contract, agreed by this client can take up to 90 days after the home orientation. It is not unusual for service to take the full 90 day requirement. We hope the customers understand, it is normal and typical for parts to be installed after the orientation is conducted. We hope for the best on every home we sell, each situation is different, but we strive to satisfy each customer to the best of our ability.

Customer Response

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
First and foremost, sense my new home arrived onsite May 15th it has remained open to the elements, varmints and birds and to this day Detray's has still never contacted me with a repair date or even to discuss how the manufacturing flaw in my home will be repaired. (Picture attached) I called and e-mailed Detray's on numerus occasions telling them of my concerns and the best I could get was, "I'll look in to that and get back to you." They never did.... Last Friday, July 28th, 2.5 months after my home was delivered I finally received a call from a contractor hired by *** to make some of the repairs needed on my home including the eve. This finally happened only after I contacted the Revdex.com and posted our issues on Facebook, which Detray's promptly removed from their Facebook page. Hopefully this issue will be resolved August 8th.As to the other main issues. We finally received the orientation and go-ahead to move in on July 7th. To this day we can still not cook a meal in our home because they have not supplied the parts for our propane cooktop in the kitchen. This time Detray's at least gave me a date that we could expect to see our stove parts. On July 5th I was told by Detray's their contractor would bring the parts to our orientation on Friday 7th if they got them in time. They said, (Worst Case Scenario) they would overnight them and I would have them that Monday, or Tuesday at the latest. July 13th, I again contacted Detray's to find out why I had not received my parts and even more so, why I did not received a phone call from them. To this day, I do not have my stove parts and I do not have any idea when I will have them.During my orientation I was told my 12 month warranty begins that day, which was on July 7th. So, each day that goes by I have one less day of warranty on both my inoperable kitchen stovetop and my inoperable propane fireplace. As per my contract, I have one free service repair visit due to me for any and all defects found within the first year of ownership. If I can't get any service now, what are my chances of getting any kind of service a year from now??? In Detray's response, they stated "we pride ourselves in quality service." It must be everyone else getting the good customer service, because it sure isn't me....

Sincerely

DeTrays Custom Housing Response

DeTrays sent the $400.00 allowance for the Mantle. Skyline is responsible for follow-up service, as DeTray's (Retailer) pays in advance for the "builder service program". This has been told to the ***'s countless times, yet they seem not to understand. We are the consumers advocate for the service package provided by the builder, Skyline Homes. If the ***'s would understand we are to help, maybe we could get this solved for them.I have been told by Skyline's Service Team, the service requested is scheduled and will be completed shortly, they have a 15 month service warranty and we are 6 months from the orientation date, so there is approximately 9 months left on the service contract. The builder is responding, and I have no issue with the typical service turn-around provided by the builder.

Skyline came out and fixed the flooring and I am now waiting on an appointment for them to come out to address the fireplace.
