This company is attempting to charge me $1,for the "privilege" of returning a $ring that I decided after I got home, wasn't as nice as it looked in the store. I resent the suggestion that I wanted to "borrow" this ring for a weekend. If I were going to wear it for a weekend and then return it, I would surely have to inquired about whether it was returnableAgain, their phrase "no refund on altered merchandise" clearly means to me, the consumer, that I cannot, say, have the diamonds rearranged, then bring it back for a refund. Any merchant in America who is proud of his merchandise would be willing to accept a return if he is confident in its quality. Diamonds and white gold do not deteriorate in two days. And in what store in America is a merchant able to arbitrarily decide a "restocking" fee Without posting, advertising or announcing it, and also charge fees for things that the customer did not ask for (cleaning my existing engagement ring)?I would be willing to pay the $fee for sizing the ring, but will not pay any of the other fees mentioned by this merchant

Dear [redacted]I am sorry you received this letter from [redacted] sold her a ring on11/7 /2015. She told her she needed it sized from a 6 to 10.
We sized it for her within 2hours and also cleaned, polished and rhodium plated her ring
for her at no charge. She didnot ask...

anything about a return policy. Most people who buy
jewelry for themselves, neverask about the return policy, because they chose the ring
that they liked it for themselves. However, the ones that need to check with a spouse, or are
unsure about what they choose, always ask. When people have us size a ring. it is because they
want it, they are not tryingto borrow it for a weekend. Our return policy is framed on the wall of the store and
clearly written on the sales slip, which the customer signs. Most women do not wear a size 10
ring and this will make itdifficult to sell. We cannot keep sizing the ring up and
down it changes the integrity of thering.I did offer to take back the ring, but a Jot of work has to
be done to the ring. I told her thereis a 25% restocking fee for the ring. There is a sizing fee
for going up and going back downon the ring we sold her, and a charge for refurbishing her
engagement ring. The charge forsizing a ring up that large is $265.00. The charge for
sizing back down a ring, tightening thediamonds back to original placement is $140.00. And last, to
refurbish her engagement ringis $65.00.I am sorry, but we are a family owned store and there is a
cost of doing business. l gave heroptions and she did not like them.Sincerely,[redacted]

Review: I purchased a ring from Diamond Concepts, a store located in the Spotsylvania Towne Centre, on 11/7/15. The ring had to be sized to fit my finger. There was never any discussion that sizing the ring would make it unreturnable. The receipt that I received with the ring (the only contract in this transaction) says "14 day money back guarantee (no refund on altered mdse.)" Two days later, I took the ring, unaltered and unworn, back to the store for a refund. At that time, a store owner, [redacted], told me that the ring was not returnable because it had to be sized up to a 10. I checked with other jewelry stores in the mall, and the industry standard is that returns on sized rings are accepted, usually within 30 or 60 days. This ring was $3,000.00: I would never have purchased it if I had known that it was not returnable.

The store owner told me to come back to the store to talk to [redacted], the salesperson who sold me the ring. On November 13, 2015, I went back to the store to return the ring, and [redacted] had been told by the owner, [redacted], not to accept the ring. I have the merchandise, unaltered from the time I left the store, and want to return it for a refund, just as was promised in our contract. I have contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge, but that is not going to completely solve this problem.Desired Settlement: I want the store to take the ring back, return my money, and sell the ring to someone else.

Response:

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This company is attempting to charge me $1,220.00 for the "privilege" of returning a $3000.00 ring that I decided after I got home, wasn't as nice as it looked in the store. I resent the suggestion that I wanted to "borrow" this ring for a weekend. If I were going to wear it for a weekend and then return it, I would surely have to inquired about whether it was returnable. Again, their phrase "no refund on altered merchandise" clearly means to me, the consumer, that I cannot, say, have the diamonds rearranged, then bring it back for a refund. And in what store in America is a merchant able to arbitrarily decide a "restocking" fee Without posting, advertising or announcing it, and also charge fees for things that the customer did not ask for (cleaning my existing engagement ring)?I would be willing to pay the $265.00 fee for sizing the ring, but will not pay any of the other fees mentioned by this merchant.
