Diana Lynn School Of Dance Reviews (2)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]
In response to the response from the Diana Lynn School of Dance I wanted to clarify a few itemsI have recieved and read the Recital HandbookIt does not contain protocol for the situation my family experienced-failure to attend to childrens bathroom needs and yelling at parents, therefore I feel it is irrelevant to this specific situationIt is not clear that three year olds were even offered an opportunity to use the bathroom during the recital unless they requested was assummed that since the studio had been operating a recital for yrs proper care for my children would be offered backstageMsR*** mentions that I was unhappy before the recital and very vocalI was exceptionally happy with our experience before recital and was planning on possibly bringing my family back in two yearsIt was determined that our family was going to take a year off for financial and time commitment reasonsMiss Gina was an amazing teacher and worked well with young studentsI have no complaints with the teaching year of which MsR*** had other teachers working for herI can only assume the conversation MsR*** is referring to a month or two before recital current mothers who had also participated in former years were complaining about how the recital was handled in years past, vocal tone and ineffective ways of handling complaints and lack of ability in dealing with the younger age backstageI had only heard good things before so as recital approached and I heard more stories of families refusing to come back I of course became concernedAfter a few moms told me they were not coming back I told them about our choice to take a break next year and that our solution was either dance through a homeschool cosuming teaching danceThese were private conversations between a handful of moms who engaged me first and my main reasons stated were still only financial and timeI was going to volunteer for the recital to monitor my girls care backstage but noticed in the handbook no other children allowed during rehearsalAs the rehearsal was held during business hours and we are from out of state I had no options for childcare for my baby to help at the required rehearsalIt is worth noting I witnessed short, cold conversations between MsR*** and other mothers so didn't feel comfortable asking for an exception and when asked to help and said I'd be willing except I dont have childcare and I got a short responseI felt like I had no option but to trust MsR***'s yrs of experienceNow that we have had a bad experience and have heard many other complaints, the yrs experience brings more questions than reassuranceIn regards to parents being yelled at backstage, I have worked and participated backstage in dance, plays, etc and this was not a raised voiceWe were directly looked and yelled at and the words were "Get out of here! Parents out now!"Compassion and a fun, child friendly environment were not present backstageI apologize, the total amount paid is $I was off a small amount in calculations, but as you can see that is still not a small amount of moneyI feel our family is owed a sincere apology, acceptance of responsibility, compassion and effort made to make this rightIdeally, I would like recital participants to be asked if another video was recorded and get a copyIn a group that large, it is likelyI would also like policies in place to protect another child and family from going through this including behavior of adult staff back stage regarding yelling, potty breaks and disclosure that only one night is recordedI would be happy with the gesture of a $video refund if MsR*** refuses to ask around for a videoI feel terrible for being the first complain, but feel a responsibility to be honest in our experience with the Diana Lynn School of Dance
Regards,

Dear Ms. [redacted],
As the owner and operator of the Diana [redacted] School of Dance for the past 52 years, I am writing in response to the complaint #[redacted]....

After this length of time I am fully aware that while we strive to give all our dancers an enjoyable experience, I can never please my entire clientele 100% of the time. This is the first time in 52 years I have had a complaint filed with the Revdex.com. I should add that Ms. [redacted] was very vocal in the months leading up to recital telling several other class parents that her children would not be returning to the school in the fall, so I feel she approached the recital experience with a less than cooperative attitude.To address Ms. [redacted]'s issues:
* The safety of our students is our number one priority which is why we have a strict policy and measures in place to assure that no unauthorized person has access to any child. This can result in a slow-down as parents who are often in a hurry are impatient leaving a performance or rehearsal. Sometimes a raised voice by a parent volunteer is the only way to get the attention of a large group of people.
* It is a long-standing practice of the studio to use parent volunteers backstage to assist the students. Ms. [redacted] declined to volunteer to help either of her daughter's classes; therefore, I must presume that she was comfortable leaving her children with the parents who unselfishly gave up sitting in the audience during one of the performances to assist all the children in the class.
* I contracted with [redacted] in January of 2015 to professionally video tape the recital. They chose which performance to tape based on their availability. As a member of [redacted], [redacted], and [redacted] we do not allow individuals to video our performances.
* Ms. [redacted] paid the following amounts to the Diana [redacted] School of Dance:
$25 - registration fee per family
$280 - 32 weeks of ballet and tap class for [redacted]
$360 - 32 weeks of ballet and tap class for [redacted]
$85 - recital fee charged per family.
As stated in the enclosed 2015 Recital Handbook, page 1, this includes:
* 6 recital tickets ($48 value)
* 1 professional recital DVD ($20 value)
* Online access and rights to all professional photos taken on picture day. (In the case of the [redacted] family this included 36 photos of their individual classes, solos and family)
The only other payment made to the Diana [redacted] School of Dance by Ms. [redacted] was $280 which was used by the studio to purchase 4 costumes, tights, accessories, headpieces, recital t-shirts, finale hats and props all of which are retained by the [redacted]s.
Ms. [redacted]'s payments to the studio did not total $1200, even if the costume money, which was not kept by the studio, is included.
I have enclosed a copy of the 2015 Studio Handbook, the 2015 Recital Handbook, the recital program and the recital form which is signed by every parent. I have also enclosed a DVD of the 2015 recital, Night At The Museum, which Ms. [redacted] received. As you can see, the Diana [redacted] School of Dance fulfilled its obligation to the [redacted] family.
I will be out of the country from August 1st to August 18th, but feel free to contact me anytime before or after that at [redacted].
Sincerely,
Diana [redacted] R[redacted]
