Diane's Discount Pet Supplies and Adoption Center Reviews (4)

I think I have made very good points the only person being embarrassed here is Diane's. At the end of the day A business sold a puppy that is not what it was advertised. In addition they sold a pit bull mix without telling the consumer that was a possibility. This should be disclosed verbally before purchase, not hidden in fine print, its misleading and unethical. T think we can all agree on that. As far as contacting a lawyer, go ahead its my right to document my experience at Dianes, as millions of people have done on various sites that help consumers be aware of businesses like Dianes. Its pretty obvious if they had labeled the puppy a pit bull mix he would not have been adopted. And they have yet to provide any p[roof as to why they labeled him an American Bulldog mix. A dog that just happens to resemble a pit bull as a puppy.

In response to this complaint we received from [redacted] I would like to first explain that the puppy was not "SOLD" to him and that it was an adoption. Our Adoption Center is a temporary home for many rescued dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. These animals come from several non-profit out of state...

rescues and two local rescues. Many of the pets in the Adoption Center were rescued from a gassing shelter or an abusive situation, hazardous environment, were unplanned or were just not wanted anymore. Adoption fees include: Vaccines, de-worming, topical flea control, heart worm testing and monthly prevention, micro chipping, medical care while they are here and spaying/neutering or a $75.00 Spay Neuter Refund Certificate. Out-of-state rescues also include transport fees. Attached is the adoption contract signed by [redacted] that he understood this when he adopted his puppy on 3-23. There are no refunds on adoption fees but he still has a $75 neuter deposit that we would be happy to mail to him if he would like. There is no way to guarantee the DNA of a mixed breed puppy, even DNA testing is not 100% accurate. The shelter veterinarian that examined the puppy guessed him to be mixed with Shepherd/Labrador and American Bulldog. An American Bulldog looks similar to an American Pit Bull except it is a larger bully-breed full grown. The Pit bull is the common name for a type of dog. Formal breeds often considered in North America to be of the pit bull type include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier, The American Bulldog and the Bull Terrier (standard and miniature) are also sometimes included. (From [redacted])  The veterinarian felt that the puppy resembled an American Bulldog puppy and therefore he was listed as such by the rescue. This puppy was listed on our website and his kennel. I have also attached the puppy’s kennel card that was displayed on his kennel when the [redacted]’s adopted him. [redacted] came into the adoption center on 8-22 yelling at staff and accusing them of lying about the pups breed. He became so irate that Alison a store employee had to ask him several times to please stop yelling at her and even told him that she would need to call the police if he did not stop screaming at her. My staff tried to explain that his puppy is not an American Pit Bull and that it is clearly a mixed breed. There is not much difference between an American Pit Bull Terrier which is the only true pit bull and a American Bulldog. They are both “bully breeds” this would explain the jaw line that the puppy presented at his veterinary appointment. We have placed several hundred mixed and purebred bully breeds including American Pit Bull Terriers over the past 25 years into loving homes. Our intention is always to place dogs and puppies into loving homes regardless to their breed. The rescues we work with have no desire to label the dog’s breed as something other then what the dog/pup resembles.  I do believe the [redacted]’s to be very good pet owners and hope that this response will put their minds at ease. I think it is unfortunate that whoever poisoned the [redacted]’s minds with these horror stories about rescues tricking adopters to adopt pit bulls realizes that they were wrong. They had no right to label their mixed breed puppy as a pit bull and create this whole situation. I researched some pictures on-line of Labrador Ret./American Bulldog mix pictures and honestly think their puppy resembles one quite a bit. I attached one of the pictures I found and hope they consider removing the label on their puppy.Diane D[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]I am very sorry that [redacted] claims he did not understand that the adoption of a mixed breed puppy rescued from a shelter did not include a 100% guarantee of the breeds it was mixed with. The [redacted]’s puppy was described on his kennel, online and on their adoption contract as a Labrador Retriever/American Bulldog/Shepherd mix puppy rescued from a kill shelter. The [redacted]’s had to fill out this application to adopt the puppy http://www.[redacted]. This application process is done prior to any adoption taking place. The Baron’s appeared to understand that this puppy was a rescue and not a puppy for sale during the application process and prior to adoption. [redacted] now claims that he was a victim of a sales pitch in which he was sold a product labeled incorrectly with no proof. I believe that the veterinarians who examined this puppy were accurate in their description of the breeds that best described the [redacted]’s puppy. I have included a picture of the puppy that was used on our website. In response to [redacted]’s adamant denial that his puppy weighed 48.8 lbs. at his neuter appointment. A veterinarian would never mistake the weight of a dog in their medical records. The puppy had to be weighed to ensure he received the proper dosage of medications to perform his neuter surgery. All of his medications were consistent with his weight of 48.8 lbs. [redacted] would be happy to provide this documentation to [redacted]. I requested this information in order to confirm that the puppy that we adopted to the [redacted]’s was indeed the puppy that was neutered. The only reason I requested this information was because [redacted] claimed that the puppy only weighed approximately 20 lbs. currently. I knew this was not accurate since the puppy weighed almost that when he adopted from us in April. After confirming this was the correct information his neuter refund of $75 was processed. The check was mailed to him and his wife on 9-23-16 from the Exton post office. It is not my intent to embarrass [redacted] or make him out to look like a bad guy. I understand [redacted] is unhappy with what he believes to be a conspiracy. I am simply trying to communicate the truth and the facts. [redacted] has no right to falsely accuse my business of misleading customers or to call me a liar and to threaten to ruin my businesses reputation with threats such as. “Of course they want this to go away, it’s bad for business.  But it’s only the beginning. I feel consumers should be aware of the methods used to sell animals at Diane’s, regardless what happens here I will do that”. If [redacted] proceeds with these threats it will result in me contacting my attorney to defend my businesses reputation and my character against these false claims.Once again, I am requesting a resolution with the Revdex.com. I feel that I have made every attempt to demonstrate the facts to resolve this complaint. Please feel free to contact me should you require any further information to help resolve this situation. Respectfully,Diane D[redacted]

Review: I own a year old mix rescue dog that I raised and trained from a puppy. My boyfriend and I were living on my boyfriends parents farm and our dog was friends and playmates with there two hound mix dogs. When we moved into our new house with our dog she was lonely and we wanted to adopt another dog for our dog to play with. We are expecting our first baby in may so we wanted an adult dog that was already house broken. We found [redacted] on Diane’s Discount pets website, The ad said that [redacted] was spayed, house broken, and had her shots and good with other dogs. It also said she was active. We have over an acre of land so that was no problem. Just what we were looking for so we thought. So my boyfriend and I went to

Diane’s Discounts pets adoption center Phone [redacted]

and talked to an employee about [redacted]. She told us that they only got her a week ago and [redacted] was high strung and likes to jump on people and kids but was friendly and house broken.

Our Application was accepted on February 21st 2013, My Mother and I went to pick [redacted] up, My Mother was concerned about how thin [redacted] was, I paid $200.00 Adoption fee signed a contract received her shot records, paper work and brought her food.. On the way home with [redacted] she threw up and soiled in the car. I thought it was just nerves, When I got her home she was very quiet and wouldn’t eat. She also had severe diarrhea all day and night even in her crate. I called Diane’s discount pet’s the next morning and talked to a man at Diane’s, told him [redacted] wasn’t eating and had diarrhea, He told me to wait another day or so because it may only be nerves. That afternoon [redacted] was still not better, so I called my vet she told me to bring her in that afternoon. The vet checked her fecal but didn’t see any worms but treated her for all worms just in case, and she also gave me medication for diarrhea, and said she should be better the next day. Along with [redacted]’s diarrhea problem she also had no idea about not urinating in the house along with trying to chew furniture and shoes.

I am a Dog Groomer and a member of the [redacted] County Dog training club. I am an experienced dog owner. I feel that [redacted] is a very sweet dog but is not house broken like I was told and read, not to mention having diarrhea problems. On the fifth day she still was not eating very well and was still having diarrhea problems. It was hard because we got attached to [redacted] but we decided to return [redacted] ( as stated on contract) to Diane’s with no refund.

Diane’s never had her in a house to test her for house breaking. They told us this! So I feel we were misinformed about her information and she was not in good health,When we brought her back [redacted] went right back outside in an unheated kennel and put back on the adoption list and website. Not only did they collect my money to adopt her, the next person will have to pay $200.00 to adopt her also.

I am more worried about this poor dog than my money, She needs medical care, weight gain and long time training to be adoptable. Most rescues that I know put new dogs in foster care where they can evaluate their Health, temperament and training needs first so they can be placed in their forever homes. If I do get a settlement back, I plan to donate half the money to my favorite rescueDesired Settlement: to improve care, wellbeing and proper evalations of adpoted dogs

Response:

On

February 21, 2013, [redacted] signed a legal and binding adoption contract

when she adopted an 18-month-old Foxhound mixed-breed puppy named [redacted]. I

have attached a copy of her signed contract. The contract clearly explains that

the fees charged are not a sale and that the adoption fees are non-refundable.

It also states that veterinarian fees are the responsibility of the pet owner. [redacted]

was informed during the application process that the pup was on the hyper side,

needed training, and considering the dog’s background and her expecting her

first child, we recommended that she research the breed’s pros and cons before

adopting [redacted]. Disregarding our concern, [redacted], who was accompanied by her

mother, assured us that she would provide a good home for the puppy. [redacted]’s

mother then stated that she was a dog trainer and that she would help her

daughter with the transition of [redacted] going to a new home. She also said that

they would be able to work through any problems that would crop up and that she

felt confident that they could handle the challenge since she had been a dog

trainer and dog groomer for over 20 years. With the assurance of her mother’s

aid and experience, the rescue approved her application upon our

recommendation. We felt confident that [redacted] and her mother understood dog

behavior would provide [redacted] a good home. I attached a copy [redacted]'s application to adopt [redacted].
