Purchased accounting software for one year licence only to find out a few weeks later the software had compatibility issues with MAC OS Catalina. Two days ago I was informed the software - AccountEdge - is not and will not be Catalina-compliant.
I asked for a refund in light of the new information and was declined.
Billing Adjustment I would like a partial refund, or a comparable product at no additional charge. The work around options provided by the vendo all require extra costs. The product was purchased with the understanding it was Mac compliant, only to find out there would be no Catalina-compliant version of 'AccountEdge.'
We are resellers of AccountEdge software and maintenance plans originating with the US publisher, a company called *** in Newark, New Jersey.
The client has dealt with us intermittently since 2013, mostly purchasing the payroll maintenance plans (which includes annual program updates).
The client has received communications directly from the publisher and, where appropriate, we have also relayed notable communications, doing our best to ensure our clients are kept informed of current developments. ... for instance, we forwarded the following comments by email on August 06/2019:
"I have recently been informed by the AccountEdge Team that Mac users should not upgrade to the upcoming macOS Catalina until you receive notice from AccountEdge that they are compatible with the update.
They are working really hard to get an update out that will work with Catalina, but there is a chance that they will not be ready at the time Catalina is released this Fall.
You should also receive some emails from the AccountEdge Team about this update and when it is Catalina compatible.
Please check their FAQ page for updates: http://support.accountedge.com/kb/general/accountedge-and-64-bit. "
The latest purchase by the client was November 18,2019 consisting of a renewal for one year of his payroll and program maintenance plan, specifically stating that the following were included:
"AccountEdge Payroll & Program Maintenance Service
- Single-User
- Includes the most Current Payroll Tax Updates
- Includes all Program Updates and Upgrades for duration of Subscription, one year. "
Since that time, the client has received all program and payroll updates as promised... in fact, we provided remote support to facilitate the updates on December 3rd, a service that was not included in the purchase, at no charge.
In January 14th, 2020, we received the following notification from the publisher:
"We are disappointed to share that we will not be able to offer a Catalina-compliant version of AccountEdge - now or in the future. In the end, AccountEdge's 30-year-old codebase proved too outdated to establish compatibility with Apple's newest operating system. In spite of a multi-year project that involved a team of developers and analysts, it's a project we will not be able to complete.
We recognize the inconvenience this presents to many loyal, long-time AccountEdge Mac users and for that we are truly sorry. Until very recently it has been our earnest intention to deliver you something compliant, new and awesome."
Additionally, an array of options was presented for consideration.
While we fully understand the client's disappointment, at no point did we provide guarantees as to Catalina compatibility. The service the client purchased was for payroll and program maintenance for one calendar year ending on November 18, 2020. The client has received and installed both payroll and program updates through January 14th, when the request for a refund was received.
The publisher, ***, was unwilling to consider a refund on a program which had been fully utilized for two months, and especially where future contracted services are expected to be fully satisfied.
