Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint
The company never once mentioned this "standard practice" and moreover, they never indicated that they would charge for this service I only used their firm once after they acquired the client list from my previously deceased CPA who I had worked with for plus yearsMy previous CPA always made it a point to get confirmation from me even after many years in our working relationship For Mr*** to imply that this is a standard practice and should be understood by all is a stretch at best The fact that they have "been on the other side of the fence on this same matter and have had very irate clients for not filing an extension as they expected" specifically indicates to me that this was not standard practice With no conversation or documentation that this was their practice and no authorization from me for the service, I don't see how they can possibly think that I would pay for this ludicrous charge
The only action I will accept from the firm is complete withdraw of the charge with a cessation of all collection activity or a court judgment indicating that I owe the amount in question
Regards,
*** ***

To Whom It May Concern:

We received a letter from you regarding the above complaint. However, we apologize for...

the late reply as Mr. [redacted] has been out of the office to attend to a family emergency.

Mr. [redacted] notified us on or around August 5th that he would not need us to prepare his tax return this year. As a standard practice of our firm, as well as many other cpa firms, we file automatic extensions for all of our clients prior to the April 15th deadline if we haven’t heard from them, in the event they have overlooked this filing. It is a service that we have always provided to our clients to protect them from accruing any penalties and interest for failure to file an extension. The fee for filing the extension is normally included in the prep of their return. However, in circumstances where we do not prepare the return, the client is billed for this service.

I forwarded a copy of the invoice to Mr. [redacted] and he stated that he did not authorize this service and refused to pay the invoice. As a result, the balance was forwarded to a collection agency as we do all clients that refuse to pay their invoices.

I do agree that the response Mr. [redacted] received was unprofessional and I do apologize for that. However, we have been on the other side of the fence on this same matter and have had very irate clients for not filing an extension as they expected. As you can see, our policy is a double edged sword but we have our clients’ best tax interest at heart when filing automatic extensions to avoid them from incurring penalties and interest.

Please let me know if there is any further information you require.

Thank you,
