Dinges, E L Moving & Storage Company Reviews (5)

Well, this is the 3rd time with Dinges MovingThe 1st time since Bud passed and it was better than everThe office crew and the movers were very polite and fast but not too fast that they damaged anythingWill continue to use and will continue to tell everyone I know about DINGES

Have moved with Dinges Moving for 40 years now. This business which is family run is the best moving company ever. I was in the Army for 20 years and moved over 18 times, I have never had such professional, courtesous, damage free moves.
I would reccomend them to anyone and everyone that I know.

Review: Contracted with E.L. Dinges Moving & Storage Co., Inc, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648, for a move from PA to FL, which was completed in August 2013. Move also included a stop in NC to drop part of the shipment with a relative, before continuing to FL. E.l. Dinges was notified of damage to items that were dropped in NC as well as items arriving in FL. They responded with a letter and claim form for a description of the damages. A detailed claim form was submitted by email and also mailed through the USPS. Unable to obtain any type of response from E.L. Dinges acknowledging receipt of the claim form. After numerous attempts to telephone E.L. Dinges, a representative answered today and advised the company had received the emails and the US Mail copies of the complaint forms. No explanation was given as to why the company had not acknowledged receipt of the complaints earlier. The representative advised that a letter was being sent to me today advising of the status of the claim and that the claim had been forwarded to the insurance company. No time frame was provided and when I asked for a copy of the letter sent to the insurance company, I was advised each claim is addressed individually and that it was not possible to email a copy of the correspondence sent to the insurance company. I again explained that we are in the process of replacing items damaged in the move and that we need a settlement figure right away in order to proceed with new purchases. The total of the claim submitted to E.L. Dinges was $5050.00, dated 09/12/13. In addition to the items submitted on the claim forms, there were numerous other items that were damaged to some extent that we decided we would replace or dispose of without including them on the claim form.Over the past 40 years, I have moved at least 10 times, including one move to Alaska and I have never filed a insurance claim against the mover, as there was very minimal damage on the previous moves.Desired Settlement: We paid for extra insurance and are seeking $5050.50 in settlement.

Response:

We have received the letter regarding the claim for Mr. [redacted]. When the men delivered Mr. [redacted]'s household goods, the shipper did not notify us here at the office or the men that there were any damages to the goods. Our men did notice there were some dampness to the rugs, but other than that, no damages. After the move was completed, Mr. [redacted] e-mailed us regarding damages during the shipment. I immediately sent a claim form out via mail. Mr. [redacted] never once attempted to call our office to check the status of the claim until Thursday, 9/26/13. We then informed him that we typed a letter stating that we received the claim form and the letter is in the mail. I also stated we were in the process of submitting it into the insurance company and that I did not have a time-table as to when a resolution would be reached. He did however; tell us that this was not the answer he was looking for as he was adamant that he wanted to buy new goods to replace the "damaged" ones. Much to our surprise, in the mail for 9/30/13, we found a letter from the Revdex.com regarding the move. We feel that since we have gone through the proper channels for this claim, Mr. [redacted] should have done the same; instead he has acted on haste.

Thank you very much,

Response:

I just received your letter dated 10/18/13, on 10/28/13. Please see my attached response, dated 10/29/13, which I am also mailing to you via the USPS. We are working with the insurance companies regarding our claims. We feel that employees of EL Dinges Moving & Storage have provided false and inaccurate information to your office. We will be in touch once we receive the insurance claims.

I received your most recent letter dated 10/18/13 via the US Mail on 10/28/13, and am responding to that letter. I am emailing you a copy of this letter as well as sending it to you via the USPS on 10/29/13.

Regarding the message sent to your office by E.L. Dinges Moving & Storage Company, Hollidaysburg, PA, we have been contacted by representatives of [redacted] Insurance Agency and their local representative: [redacted], Tampa, FL, and are in the process of receiving replacement/repair bids from them. This appears to be an ongoing process that will continue for at least another 30 days, according to the representative for [redacted]. We appreciate being contacted by the insurance company and we are working with them.

Regarding the claim to you from [redacted], Office Manager, E.L. Dinges Moving & Storage, Hollidaysburg, PA, that the employees delivering our furniture stated there were no damages to our goods, I respectively disagree. The truck driver was [redacted] and he was assisted by [redacted] (do not know last name). [redacted] physically handed me the towel rack from the damaged antique wash stand, stating "here". Upon viewing the damaged coffee table, [redacted] advised "there is no way that damage was caused by E.L. Dinges". Upon opening the rear of the truck, [redacted] advised they had travelled through a terrible rain storm and that some of the items near the back of the truck were wet. This is where the rug and the stained sofa were located. Furthermore, the E.L. Dinges employee sent to the Pennsylvania residence to pack furnishings, advised the sofa would be wrapped for protection prior to being picked up and transported to storage. On the day the sofa was picked up, E.L. Dinges employees advised they would not wrap the sofa for transport to storage; however it would be wrapped at the warehouse prior to being stored. The sofa was not wrapped when the rear door of the moving van was opened in FL. The sofa was stained and wet, along with the wet rug, also stored near the back of the van.

When I was initially contacted by [redacted] via telephone in late August, he advised that we would have to obtain 3 separate estimates from 3 separate vendors for each damaged item and submit those estimates for insurance coverage. When I told [redacted] I was under the impression I would be contacted by the insurance company regarding damages and that a representative would be sent to view and access the claim, I was again told to obtain three separate estimates for each damaged item. Subsequently, after paying two separate vendors out of pocket for their estimates, I checked around and determined all claims should be handled by [redacted] and processed by them. At that point, out of frustration, I filed the claim with the Revdex.com.

I do not accept the claims made by [redacted] or the refusal of the employees to admit to incorrectly packaging and subsequently damaging our household belongs during storage/transit.

Regards,

Business

Response:

Dinges Moving & Storage took the proper steps in the claim process for Mr. [redacted]’s household goods. Mr.

[redacted] acted in has e. and in his own words “frustration” when reporting to the Revdex.com. As I have stated

already, I told Mr. [redacted] that I did not have a time-table as to when a resolution would be reached and at

that time the claim form was turned into our insurance company. At this point, there was nothing more that

Dinges Moving & Storage could do. Mr. [redacted]’s words were then “This is not the answer I was looking

for”.

E. L. Dinges Moving & Storage has been in business since 1905 and incorporated in 1932, we have long

standing policies regarding the claims orocess and Mr. [redacted] did not follow this process. Because Mr.

[redacted] acted in haste and submitted a letter to the Revdex.com before the claims process could be completed, we

have no other recourse than to turn this matter over to our corporate attorneys for legal action against Mr.

[redacted] if this complaiiv is not retracted immediately.

Thank you very much.

Response:

We have been in contact with [redacted] Insurance and on 10/29/13, we provided [redacted] with a signed claim release form relating to the damages on the shipment of household goods to our FL residence. [redacted] advised they would initiate payment of their share of the claim upon receipt of the claim release form and that this process should take approximately 2-3 weeks. When asked about the remaining payment of the claim from E.L. Dinges Moving & Storage, Hollidaysburg, PA, [redacted] advised they could not provide any information regarding payment details from E.L. Dinges. The payment details were specified for [redacted] and E.L. Dinges on the signed claim release form provided to us by [redacted]. Upon receipt of payment from [redacted] and E.L. Dinges, we will honor the signed claim release form and request the Revdex.com to remove our complaint. We suggest that E.L. Dinges and [redacted] combine their efforts to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Review: E.L. Dinges Moving and Storage we hired to move our family. The company came on June 3rd and gave an estimate of $674.18 which my wife paid by credit card that day. They sent her forms to sign to accept or decline insurance. There was no where on the forms that their price would increase from $108 an hour to $136.00 an hour after the time they estimated for the job. The movers insisted on going back to get a second truck saying that it wouldn't all fit on one truck. They did get the stuff in one truck therefore not needing the second truck they charged us for after the move. They billed us an additional $855.10 after the move on 6/21/14, which they kept my wife's credit card on file and automatically billed us. She wasn't aware they would keep her card on file to automatically bill her. They broke some of our furniture that shouldn't have been broken and should be their responsibility to replace. The men that moved us were rude they kept taking breaks. The job they did was not worth 1,529.28 especially for an in town move with everything within 3 miles. I took a letter in to Mr. Dinges with my complaints about the service and extra charges that were not clearly communicated. I asked for a refund of $542.10 which was very generous on our part and I also included a list of other things for them to consider giving more for. When I called back to follow up I was told that the information was forwarded to his attorney. I was not given any other response or who the attorney was or what we needed to now do to get a refund for services I don't feel we should have been charged.Desired Settlement: We would like back $542.10 for the over charged amount. This isn't taking into account the broken furniture. It is also going up in price from their original estimate.

Review: We hired company to move us from an apartment to our new home ,their estimator made two visits to our apartment and provided two detailed written estimates . Estimator was told TWICE that there was no freight elevator and they would need to carry everything down three flights of stairs . After the move was completed I was asked to sign the shipping bill of lading , which I did but I did not receive a copy , I was told it would be mailed . The next day I checked my credit card statement and found I was charged an additional $ 840.00 for "excessive distance" six flights of stairs @ $140.00 per flight. I contacted my credit card company and was told I should try to resolve with merchant first.I contacted [redacted] and asked for my copy of the bill of lading and final inventory and I was told since I filed a dispute with my credit card company they would only send my copies if I dropped the dispute. I had to contact my credit card company to stop the dispute just to get my final copies ! It is my belief that [redacted] is trying to use intimidation to take advantage of their customers . My husband were concerned about additional fees because there is no freight elevator in the apartment building we moved from , that is why we were sure to tell the estimator. We feel we were treated unfairly and we believe we are due a refund of the unauthorized charge of $ 840.00 to our credit card. The second estimate we received was for $2646.21 the final invoice was $ 3750.00 that is just over 30% more than the written estimate . We do understand it was an estimate but [redacted] invoiced our credit card for 10% over the estimate as a " deposit " prior to the move. Again I believe they are being dishonest and unfair . We have filed a dispute with the credit card company but they told us there is nothing they could do . Please help !Desired Settlement: We would like to have the $ 840.00 credited back to our credit card and a letter of apology from Mr. [redacted] from E.L.Dinges Moving & Storage
