Review: On 4.17.13 I joined Direct Buy in anticipation of remodeling my bathroom and other projects. On 5.2.13 I lost my job and on 5.3.13 I personally went to Direct Buy with my Letter showing I lost my job and explained that being a single mother with 2 elementary school age children I really could not afford a $4790. membership. The staff at the office took my contract, made a copy and took back all Direct Buy info. I then followed up with a phone call to [redacted], the manager, on May 4th, 7th and May 10th. I was told the district manager, [redacted] would be in the office on Saturdays and they would discuss this. I called and emailed several times, as you can imagine this is a lot of money to a single mom who has just lost her job. I never got a call or email back on or about May 8th I finally called and spoke with [redacted] at which time he said there was nothing they could do since it was past the 10 day period and funds/royalties had been distributed but he did say they have job openings. I did not find this very helpful! When I thought about this I as rather upset as the business is not open often and closed on Sun and Monday so I was not very far past the 10 days. Also, I offered in a phone message that they charge me $200 which is what they claimed I saved because I paid the full $4,790 on my credit card. I have never heard from Direct Buy regarding my request for cancellation. I have called and emailed multiple times and explained, begged, asked for the cancellation. This is a horrible way to treat a customer. Also, until I asked for cancellation... I never even received any info about being a member. I cannot believe that in this economy a business would be so harsh as to not contact a customer with a decision. I do not see how they can conduct business when there is nobody to speak to except for a voicemail... and messages that I sent via email have never ever been returned.

Ideally I would like the $4,790 that was accepted/taken on 4/17/13 refunded in full as I do not plan to remodel when I do not have a job. Or as I offered to Direct Buy via voice mail message. They charge me a $200 cancellation fee for any processing costs which occurred. This would mean a refund of $4,590.It is unbelievable to me that I have not once been contacted bye any member of direct buy!!!!!!! I went into this contact in good faith and they have not shown any on their part.

Thank you for forwarding the complaint from Barbara Kashuba. As has been discussed with Barbara on several occasions, a DirectBuy membership is not sold on a trial basis. An enrolling member has three business days to reconsider their decision to join the club. If a member decides to cancel their membership within that three day period, a full refund is issued with no questions asked. Unfortunately after the three day period has expired this is not possible as the club incurs various expenses upon activating the membership that are not recoverable. The club stands behind it's promise of incomparable service, selection and guaranteed savings. DirectBuy of Hartford is available to insure Barbara receives the level of savings and service that hundreds of thousands of members have experienced over the past forty plus years. I encourage her to take advantage of the tremendous buying power available to her. I look forward to creating another satisfied member.

No settlement was offered. I would also like to state that I know that memberships have been cancelled in the past.

When I contacted Jeremy, the Member's services Contact that signed me up when I called HIM, I was told that the membership cannot be cancelled because funds have been disbursed.

I feel that Direct Buy should do the right thing in my case and refund my money even if they charge me a small processing fee. I know this has been done in the past as I have read this on several websites regarding this business. I feel it it is very sad that they would not make this offer. And that I myself made this offer in writing in an email that they charge me a $200 processing fee.

I would like the Revdex.com to further investigate this matter and see if my membership can be cancelled.

I did not join on a "Trial Membership" basis as is suggested in their response. AND further more if my membership was already processed... why did I not receive a membership prior to the week of May 13th. And why is the Membership Card processed with a date of May 7th when they took $4,790 from me on the night of April 17th.

I feel that since I was in their office in Rocky Hill on May 3rd(and they took all documentation that I had regarding a Membership!!!)....if this was a business that truly was concerned about their reputation, they would have refunded my money due to my unusual circumstances. When I again made contact via phone call to Jeremy I was told that my case would be discussed on May 4th. Again, if this was the case....why did I have to call to find out what was going to be done. AND why could Direct Buy not cancel even with a full refund since NO processing has been yet done.

I hope that the Revdex.com can reason with this company and convince DirectBuy that a refund would be in order for a case like mine.

Review: Was cold called with invitation to see a presentation of Direct Buy.Had to meet certain income requirements and have both myself and significant other with me. Was told both by phone and by brochure in mail that we would leave with a 7" android tablet, vacation weekend and restaurant card. Went to view their facility on April 28, 2013 and atthe end was told they "ran out" of tablets and gave us a voucher for one.Was told that they would mail it to me. After not receiving it a couple weeks later called and they said the tablets come from Canada and wereon there way from NY. Three weeks later still no tablet so I called againJune 4 and was told maybe mine would be in next shipment. I told them thatI was supposed to get it on the day of presentation and that this wasunacceptable and was going to file a complaint with Revdex.com. They said "do what you have to do" then hung up the phone on me.They should not be advertising and promising people things to come thereand then pull this shxx

. I read on the internet that one women has been waiting months and still has not received her tablet.

I want them to give me the tablet that they promised me NOW. and I want them penalized as they are practicing false advertising.

Review: I was told I could not get of refund of membership fees if I cancelled my membership. I am now talking to them about changing my membership to the shortest possible term for a partial refund and cancellation of membership. I have not gotten a reply back yet. I plan to go there direct and talk to the owner. I got membership on 4/9/2013 but my membership card is dated 5/7/2013 which I received late. Membership cost me $[redacted]. After trying to use the system I found out it would not work and was not as easy as claimed. Thus I requested a refund and/or canellation. Since then my wife has had a heart problem and I am just getting back to them after not response from them.Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund

A refund or partial refund and cancellation if membership. As before stated, the shortest possible membership with a part refund would do.
