Please post this letter from [redacted] to further explain my rebuttal to complaint # [redacted] Thank you, RoyRe: [redacted] **Saw CutsI was able to go and inspect the residential driveway at the above location, intending to addressissues that the homeowner had about the work. When I started to inspect the driveway, I was trying to find the issues that the homeowner had, and by the time I was done, I was quite irritated that a homeowner actually complained about this driveway. The only imperfections I could find are two chips from saw cutting done on the driveway Both are approximately 1" in length along the edge of the saw cuts This chipping is an unavoidable occurrence that may not happen during the cutting process. These chips will not have any adverse effects on the driveway. The rest of the driveway is flawless.I would be proud to have a driveway with this workmanship myself.Sincerely, [redacted] [redacted] ***

I have been out to *** ***'s house more than onceThe first time he was complaining the concrete was bad because of malignite causing rust spots. He never said a word about the saw abrasions. These saw abrasions come from sawing the drive into sections after the
pour to control cracking. Months later he called me to come out and complained again about the saw abrasions I tried to tell him it was common when sawing a driveHe then tried to point out a spot that had been hit very hard and said that nothing caused itI showed him where it had been hit hard and he shut up about that. He then got really mad and said he didn't think it was my fault but the concrete was bad. He then took me across the street to a drive we had done years ago and said they had no abrasions. I pointed out that they did and he started yelling at me and I told him I was done. I knew the way he acted the first time I went out he might be trouble so I took the salesman of the concrete plant out to confirm that everything was normal, he agreed that it was fine and we left When people are yelling at you and they have no intention of listening to the fact that there is nothing wrong, I felt like there was nothing left to doI am sorry he feels this way but if he hadn't gouged his drive and tried to blame it on us he would of never calledWhy didn't he bring up the abrasions the first time he called? I can only wish him my best, and I know that I tried to honestly tell him the truth. Roy ***

I'm sure if she had someone look at it, they needed work and would say whatever she wanted to hear to get a jobAs I said, a rep from the concrete plant was with me when I offered an extra year warranty. I'm sorry that it has worked out like this, but concrete cracks, periodI've had people call me to come and look at other peoples work they were not happy about and I tell them to call the contractor, I don't want to be in the middle of something that is none of my business A structural engineer will tell her it will be good for yearsI don't know anyone else that would go as far as to offer a year extended warrantyI've been doing this for years now and been in my own business for over yearsIf we did sub standard work we would of been out of business years agoWe have had complaints in years, and both are for cracksEveryone needs to understand concrete cracksWe do our best to put control joins in to prevent cracking, but it is not a guarantee that it won't

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:
Regards,
*** ***Yet again he says he is offering a guarantee, which again I must addressLike I said before his guarantee was he would put filler in the huge space where the stairs had separated from the sidewalk about a 1/inch in widthThen put more crack filler in the crack in the second step down from the sidewalk, which is about three times wider on one sideI would have to just live with the misalignment between the stairs and sidewalk which is now about 3/to !/an inchThen I guess he wanted to caulk or put filler in the the crack that runs almost completely across the back half of the drivewaySo after he was finished with has warranty work it would look like a year old drivewayA guarantee in my book would be that he fix the work that he did that was unacceptable by the customerWhen asked to what I wanted done I said fix it right his reply was he was not going to replace any part of itJust wanted to patch the mistakes that were madeAs far as the guy he brought here from the "concrete plant" He would only give a first name would not provide any other credentials such as where he worked what he did or a last nameSo who knows who he really was? I would absolutely be thrilled if the Revdex.com sent a structural engineer out to review this claimI doubt he or she would say that this driveway would last anywhere near the thirty years that he is claiming it willAs For why the cracks are running completely across the driveway both contractors said that when you put cut in the driveway to control the cracks they must be cut to a depth of at least 1/the thickness of the concrete padThe cuts in the parts of the drive way that has the cracks is only 1/2" deepSince the pad is at least inches that would mean that the cuts to control the cracks are only about half as deep as needed So there is one of the problemsThe other problems is this whole job was done with out any rebar or metal reinforcement anywhereWhy you ask because this contractor said to me that his concrete has fiberglass mesh in it and it don't need it rebar in it, because his concrete work does not crackGullible me I actually believed him

My[redacted] and a representative from the concrete plant went over and looked over the drive and steps. They do have hair line cracks in them with the steps being a little larger. Neither crack will hurt the integrity of the work done. I have offered them a 2 year extension on the completed work. No one...

has called me back or responded in any way, so I will put it on the Revdex.com site that I will stand by it for 2 years. Concrete does crack. I wish I could come up with, or some of the labs that are testing concrete on a regular basis and end cracking in concrete. So far it hasn't been done.  The only complaints I ever get is on cracking. The cracking will have to be uneven, which they are not. Thank you, [redacted]
