Thank you for bringing this
complaint to our attention. The members attended a presentation at DirectBuy of
*** on June 13, 2010. After
receiving an explanation of the benefits of a DirectBuy membership, taking a
personal tour or the showroom, and given an opportunity to ask
any questions
they may have, they made the decision to purchase a membership with financing a
portion of the membership fee.
Until
receipt of this complaint, our records indicate no prior complaints and/or
requests with regards to cancellation of their membership and/or any
dissatisfaction with their membership.
Additionally, the members made the decision to make zero payments on
their financial obligation even though they utilized their membership and purchased
over $5,in merchandise. Therefore, a
refund of membership fees is not warranted by our company

Review: I purchased an online-only membership on 2/14/13 from Salesmen [redacted] and Manager Salesman [redacted] and was promised membership information for the next day and I had received nothing. I called the Customer Service office at the [redacted] location and spoke with [redacted] on 2/15/13. [redacted] explained that [redacted] should not have promised my membership incorrectly. She said they send local membership information to the Corporate Office which went out that day-2/15/13. She explained I should get my info by Tuesday or Wednesday. A few minutes after I hung up the phone with her, I received a Welcome email from DirectBuy. However , there was no membership login contained in the emai. . I called Customer Service-[redacted] DirectBuy on 2/22/13 after having not received any information from DirectBuy and spoke again with [redacted]. She said she did not know why I had not received my Membership Login by now. She wanted me to call the Corporate Office and I refused saying she was Customer Service. She called Corporate and called me back within a few minutes. She said that there was a number missing from my online account and that she had only ever seen that happened once before. I called again on 2/25/13 and left a voicemail message as they were closed. This is an online only account. My Membership Agreement clearly states that my Membership starts the day I sign the agreement-2/14/13. I am paying for time that I am unable to access my membership which I consider Breach of Contract.

oblem:Desired Settlement: I want my down payment of $180.00 back and contract considered null and void.

Review: My wife and I received a call from Direct Buy on June 11th 2013. We drove to Lancaster from [redacted] that night to be there at 6:45 PM. First off, they told us on the phone that just for coming tonight and listening to the sales pitch, we would be receive the following: a free tablet/e-reader, $200 in restaurant gift cards and also have to chance to pick a key ( if the key opened a door, we would win something like $25,000 dollars to use for home upgrades). Well that was the last we heard of those gifts promised to us for coming that the office that night. They also said that the presentation we would only be there 90 minutes. We ended up being there for 3.5 hours. My wife and I were slightly interested and also reluctant about the products and service the entire time. Once the presentation was over, they started showing us membership plans. We were slightly interested because we were planning on moving to a new home, so we knew we would need new furniture. We also knew that we really couldn't afford to become a member at the present time. We said no to every membership plan presented, and just wanted to leave and go eat since my pregnant wife was hungry. The salesman knew we were apprehensive and he said that he didn't want to pressure us into becoming a member. Yet he kept asking us if the internet only plan would work for us, and he kept reminding us that if we left we would never be asked to be a member again.

(We should've left ) So we signed the contract. I guess they expected us to take another 20 mins and read the entire contract before signing, because they failed to mention that we had 3 days to back out of the contract. My wife and I then went home and in the next few days logged on to our account and began looking around at the products. Yes, the prices are somewhat inexpensive. But by the time you add shipping and taxes, I can go to a store close to me and buy the same product for about the same price if not less. We later tried calling the showroom in Lancaster, Pa 2 weeks later to talk to someone about what we had to do, or what were the options for cancelling out contract. We didn’t get anything more then them telling us that we had only 3 days to change our mind and we were obligated to pay. We actually misplaced our copy of the signed contract so we asked for a copy of the signed contract. They sent us a blank contract, which left out the page concerning contract cancellation. We even contacted the owner of the Direct Buy Lancaster location and asked her if we could be let out of our contract, and she thought it was funny that my wife and I were so displeased with the products prices, as well as their CUSTOMER SERVICE. The customer service was absolutely horrible. To date, we still have not received a copy of the contract we signed on July 11th, 2013. They misrepresented their company and service. They do not have the cheapest prices, nor do they have all the items you look for and want.Desired Settlement: Ideally, we would like a previously paid amounts of money including the 180 dollar down payment refunded to us. However we would be happy if we could just get out of the contract with this company, with no further payments our part. We just want to cut our ties with this dishonest and manipulative company.
