Review: I had a total of $71.65 in my account at the time of a charge for $14.97. When that money came out I was charged a $30 overdraft fee. This is not the first time this has happened and of course when I contact them about it, it is never their fault but mine, stating something about their system automatically takes the fee when the money isn't there. This is getting ridiculous.Desired Settlement: Refund charges for what I see as a fraudulaunt charge.

November 28, 2014Dear [redacted]:I received your letter dated November 24, 2014 concerning a complaint from a member of Discovery Federal Credit Union. That complaint was assigned an ID# of [redacted]. The circumstances of the complaint is that Discovery charged an overdraft fee and the member felt they had money in their account at the time. I have reviewed the members account thoroughly and have found the following existed at the time of the charged overdraft fee:On the close of business on October 28, 2014 the member had $132.78 in the checking account. After the close of business, the member used their debit card 6 times for purchases totaling $118.18. Use of a debit hard will place a hold against the funds in a members account. Therefore, after the use of the debit card and the hold placed against the account the member had a remaining available balance of $14.60. On the morning of October 29, 2014, the noted charge of $14.97 was posted to the member's account resulting in an overdraft situation and the overdraft charge per the disclosure statement provided to the member at the time the account was opened. It is also noteworthy that the member continued to use the check card after the overdraft situation occurred and was charged additional overdraft fees on other days. It should also be noted that on November 3, 2014 as an accommodation for the member a $30 reversal of an overdraft was posted to the members account. The account remained in an overdraft situation until November 4, 2014 when the member finally deposited enough money to cure the overdraft situation.I have also looked back at the usage of this member's account and noted that there have been many times in the past where the member allowed an overdraft to occur and was charged an overdraft fee. The charging of the fee in question is not an isolated instance for this member. Discovery expects each member to review how much money is in their account and to be careful in the handling of their money. That is why we provide services such as an audio response system and online banking so members can access their accounts whenever and wherever they need.After reviewing the circumstances surrounding the transactions in question, my conclusion is that Discovery actedappropriately and that the member was not the victim of any fraudulent charges.
