There are a few issues here that need to be addressed.First, I have not conducted business nor have had any sort of transaction with the owner of the home [redacted] I was hired by the buyer to check the home that [redacted] currently owns The transaction was between me and the buyer not *** therefore, his complaint is not about any business related matter.Second, [redacted] apparently has a few reasons to have an issue with me I get this from time to time from owners of homes that are mad when I point out issues with their home I pointed out some issues with the roof of his home, and he apparently has problems with it The other issue that [redacted] apparently has is that he used to be in the Mortgage industry here in St George I know of a few inspections that I did where he was the loan officer on the file I know that the inspections ended up "killing the deal" I would have expected him to handle things more professionally instead of looking for this one opportunity to try and "even the score" with me He is now apparently out of the mortgage business, as he states, that he is currently in the wireless industry.Because of these apparent issues, and the fact that I have no business agreement nor conducted any sort of an inspection for him This matter is closed to me If the buyer has an issue with the way I conducted the inspection, he hired me to do the inspection, and I would address it

I did conduct an inspection on the above mentioned property I discussed the issue with the seller on the phone I always go through the home at the end of the inspection and check to make sure that everything was turned back off This includes lights, stoves, appliances, and YES fireplaces I then set the thermostats back to where I find them when I arrived at the property I specifically remember checking the fireplace on this house because there were moving boxes around it It was off when I left the home This fireplace was also unique, in that it was wired with two switches (3-way) One of them was by the master bed, and then other was in the living room The one in the living room is in a bank of light switches that turns on the living room lights On this particular day, my access to the house was by someone putting a key under the mat by the front door I was also told that whoever left the key was going to go back and check and lock things up It is possible that whomever came back and checked and locked things up flipped a few switches, and not realizing turned the fireplace on (Note: This fireplace is a sealed unit and it is not particularly easy to see if the flame is on or not, especially during the daytime) I also noticed that a neighbor came over and was walking through the backyard a few times while I was at the inspection I'm not sure if he was just checking on what I was doing, or what It is also possible that he came in to check on things and accidentally flipped the switch thinking that it was a light switch If it was my mistake, I would have definitely owned up to it, but I specifically remember checking this fireplace before I left the house I don't ever like to have anyone dissatisfied by my service, but I also don't want to be taken advantage of Usually I access homes through the use of a realtor keybox These keyboxes keep records of who goes in and out of the house In this particular case, the owner or realtor did not have a keybox, and left a key under the mat I believe that someone else accessed the house to "check things out" and because the fireplace switch was not labeled and right by the living room lights, the switch was flipped Because I was the inspector, It was assumed that I just left this fireplace on, which is not the case.thanks,Bart C [redacted] Discovery Inspections

fireplaces.  I then set the thermostats back to where I find them when I arrived at the property.   I specifically remember checking the fireplace on this house because there were moving boxes around it.  It was off when I left the home.  This fireplace was also unique, in that it was wired with two switches (3-way).  One of them was by the master bed, and then other was in the living room.  The one in the living room is in a bank of light switches that turns on the living room lights.  On this particular day, my access to the house was by someone putting a key under the mat by the front door.  I was also told that whoever left the key was going to go back and check and lock things up.  It is possible that whomever came back and checked and locked things up flipped a few switches, and not realizing turned the fireplace on.  (Note:  This fireplace is a sealed unit and it is not particularly easy to see if the flame is on or not, especially during the daytime).  I also noticed that a neighbor came over and was walking through the backyard a few times while I was at the inspection.  I'm not sure if he was just checking on what I was doing, or what.  It is also possible that he came in to check on things and accidentally flipped the switch thinking that it was a light switch.  If it was my mistake, I would have definitely owned up to it, but I specifically remember checking this fireplace before I left the house.  I don't ever like to have anyone dissatisfied by my service, but I also don't want to be taken advantage of.  Usually I access homes through the use of a realtor keybox.  These keyboxes keep records of who goes in and out of the house.  In this particular case, the owner or realtor did not have a keybox, and left a key under the mat.  I believe that someone else accessed the house to "check things out" and because the fireplace switch was not labeled and right by the living room lights, the switch was flipped.  Because I was the inspector, It was assumed that I just left this fireplace on, which is not the case.thanks,Bart C[redacted]Discovery Inspections

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:I would like to respond to each point in Bart's email to show why it does not make sense.First of all, I am sure Bart goes through the house and checks everything.  I am sure he does thorough inspections.  I am not here to say he is a bad inspector.  I am here to say he made a mistake and unfortunately is not integral enough to own it. Bart mentions when he arrived there was a key under the mat, which is true.  However the neighbor whom left that key came back and locked the deadbolt and nothing more. I questioned her on this to make sure and she said she never entered the house. Furthermore, IF she would have entered the house then why would she be switching off lights as he mentions in his response? He has already claimed that all lights etc.. were turned off when he left.  There should have been no reason for anyone to be switching lights off.  Bart mentions that one of the switches to the fireplace is in a bay with other light switches which is true.  I think it would be just as easy for him to have hit that switch as he was turning off lights. Bart also talks about boxes in front of the fireplace and claims he double checked the fireplace specifically because of the boxes. He made no such mention of that fact on the phone and I am the one that brought up the boxes and that they were hot to the touch.  I don't believe he even noticed them and therefore I don't believe he checked the fireplace just because of the boxes.the fireplace is a sealed unit as he mentions, but so are most.  In this case his claim is absolutely false.  The flame was turned all the way up and it was the first thing I saw when I walked In the door from my vacation. As I mentioned in my complaint, I keep the flame on low and he had turned it on high and did not change it back. The neighbor that was in the backyard is the guy across the street.  He was taking care of my chickens at the time. He mentioned he went over to feed and water my chickens while Bart was at the house doing the inspection.  This particular neighbor did not have any type of access to my home and therefore could not have entered. So NO it is not possible that he entered the home to flip switches. And again, why would anyone need to? If he is claiming the possibility of a light left on that a neighbor would have had to turn off then it is just a possiblethe fireplace was left on by Bart.I am not the one that paid for the service so I can't say that I am dissatisfied with his service. I am dissatisfied in the way he left my home though. And in a way, I did have to pay because my utility bills were much higher.  I am the last person to take advantage of anyone. I have never filed a Revdex.com complaint, never used anyone, or even sued anyone.  I have complained to businesses before and found a resolution.  I felt the need to file this because of the way our phone call went.  I knew there would not be any type of resolution just in talking with him. Though I don't take advantage, I also believe that people (especially businesses) need to be held accountable for their I actions. I write yelp reviews all the time and give a lot more positive feedback than I do negative.I am sure Bart does a lot of home inspections so again I find it hard to believe that he specifically remembers flipping off my particular fireplace. To give him the benefit of the doubt, there is still a very likely chance that he could have hit one of the two switches as he was turning off other lights. Even Bart says it is a unique situation that I had two switches. No there is not record of whom entered the home but we do have proof by admission that Bart was in the home and even flipping switches. My neighbors have no reason to be dishonest. They would have told me if they entered my home. Bart claims that it is assumed it was him because of these reasons and he is exactly right. I am 100% confident it was Bart that left the fireplace on.  Again, I am sure he does a great inspection, I am sure he flips off all lights and appliances etc.... I am also sure he makes mistakes just like I do. This happens to be one of those.
Sincerely,
