Review: After test Changed 3 Motocraft Coils for Number 1-2-3 Cylinders of 2002 [redacted] XLT. I was Charged me $589.26 for two hours labor $170 and $360 parts. We can found many place the coil only cost $73 to $80 each either from google serch, or advance auto, autozone etc.. The installiation is less than half an hour since I was waiting on the shop. Also we can refer the 9 minutes youtube show how to change the coils.[redacted]I went to the shop after. The owner refused my claim. He told me they test drive the car after change the parts. I did saw a man test the car for about 20 minutes. He said he has to pay the test driver and the test the car before change the parts and parts has delivery fee too.(they never told anyone the test fee apply)and none of it showed on the reciept too. I saw a technician test it like I tested the car in [redacted], Where I knoew the cylinder 2 coil failed, I told them and show the [redacted] test sheet before their test. They suggesed me change 3 of them since it is a little difficult to change 1-2-3 coils Than change 4-5-6 cylinder. I agreed to change 3 of the coils to avoid next failer cost more labor. Since I was traveling to Dc area and could not fix it locally, I went to their garage. I was satisfied their mechanics bot not the billing.Desired Settlement: I believe 1 hour labor of $75 and $270 parts is fair market value. Need refund $ 90 parts and $ 75 labor. totally $165 to mail to me.

To Whom it May Concern:

We arc responding, tn the complaint that you sent us. The customer that made the complaint brought his car into our station because it was not running right. I explained what needed to be done and what the cost was. The customer told me that the internet prices for the parts were cheaper, and I explained that we don’t use internet ports because we don't know what we’re getting, we can't guarantee them, and that we only use original equipment [redacted] parts. I told the customer he could get the parts himself and I would put them in but he said he needed his car right away. I knew he wanted to keep the cost down and I did worked with him as much as I could.

Since he needed his car right away, I ordered 3 cylinders from a parts store that would deliver quickly. The list price for each cylinder is $158.13. I charged the customer $120.00 each. The labor guide we follow gives its an average time for the work that is performed. The guide calls for .6 hours for general system test procedures, 2.3 hours to remove the manifold, and .5 hours to replace the ignition coil, That is a total of 3.4 hours and we charged him 2.0 hours. We saved him $114.39 on the coils and $119.00 on the labor. We saved him $233.39 on this repair.

The customer told you it only took 1/2 hour to remove and replace the coils but that is only correct for the front 3 coils. To get to the rear coils, which we replaced, you have to remove the manifold. We agree that once the manifold is removed then it does take 1/2 hour to check the spark plugs and replace the coils in the rear of the motor. The customer was not taking Into consideration that the manifold had to be removed and replaced.

We feel that this is a fair price and we did work with this customer as much as we could. If you check with the other repair shops in this area you will find that they charge over $100+ per hour labor.

We use the [redacted] Labor Guide for our labor rates and I have attached a copy of the labor recommended for this job. Also attached is a copy of our receipt from the parts store for the 3 ignition coils.

We have been servicing cars for 54 years and we do our best to give our customers the best possible price without putting us out of business. Please call if you have any questions.
