Review: The floor installation done by [redacted] of Divine Decorative Concrete was not conducted in a good workman like manner. We originally wanted a stained and sealed concrete floor with a durable, child friendly high gloss finish, with all holes filled. After the first installation was marred with application errors we agreed to have [redacted] correct his work. Furthermore he expressed more confidence being able to apply semi gloss finishes instead of high gloss finishes. As the continued inconvenience of living out of our house was mounting we grudgingly agreed. We also pointed out several areas of roller marks, uneven finish and luster and unfilled nail holes, but we accepted the job as done for said inconvenience in relation to our decreasing confidence in his ability to correct his work.On April 27th we emailed [redacted] for advice on how to deal with the floor scratching very easily. [redacted] recommended a wax application from [redacted]. We added several coats of [redacted] at our own expense. In addition we postponed the completion of the job, like paint and baseboard finish for several months to allow for more cure time.Nevertheless the floor as installed by [redacted] is the most fragile surface we have ever seen.-Water bottles, shoes can lift the finish and stain-Keys drop pic chip the floor-Barefoot after stepping into a spot of orange juice lifted the finish and stain-Extra gentle blue painters tape lifted the finish (after 5 months of cure time)-A toddler had stain marks on her face after 8 days of cure timeAfter consulting with 3 licensed professionals we come to the conclusion that [redacted] of Divine Decorative Concrete installed the product incorrectly or carelessly. Furthermore [redacted] claimed the water based products to be more durable than and acid stain/oil base combination which the other professionals refuted as well. The other professionals pointed out several other visible errors in application process.Desired Settlement: We have lost confidence in [redacted] to be able to correct his work relative to the originally advertised quality promised consistent with a good, workmanlike and substantial manner. As stated to [redacted] in a letter October 19, 2014, we would like a full refund for job we fully paid him, plus additional monies spent on equipment rental, product and labor for application of wax product as well as additional hotel costs incurred.

Response:

The finished product was accepted and approved upon completion by customer back in April, 2014. A few days after completion, the customer called me regarding scuff marks caused by the moving furniture. I recommended a protective wax and offered to apply upon my return from a project in Orange County. They went ahead and applied the protective wax on their own. I did not hear from the customer for over six months until I received an email from them demanding a full refund in October 2014. They claim they have "experts" checking and evaluating the condition of the work that has faulted shortly after the work was completed. The normal situation when a job needs to be fixed is to contact the person that performed that job to make the appropriate corrections. They never contacted me. I visited her house after they have sent me the email demanding full refund and after the inspection I offered to remedy the situation even thought the 6 month warranty had expired and some of the damage was done due to negligence to follow maintenance procedures (placement of making tape on sealed floor). They have not giving me a chance to remedy the current situation which is the normal procedure in the construction industry. I have an impeccable contractors license and I intend to keep it that way.Best regards,[redacted]
