Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
Dixon's rate is significantly higher than the competition.  $2.39 per gallon is pretty much on par with the competition, as opposed to Dixon's $2.69 per gallon.  Dixon is offering me a price per gallon that I could have gotten from anybody else, at a time when I was not ready to purchase oil.  I am essentially paying market price per gallon for Dixon's mistake.  I would have purchased oil from another company if I needed it, not Dixon.  They also want to charge me $150 to pump it out.  I will accept a lower price per gallon and keep the oil as a compromise for their mistake, not full market price.  It seems unfair that a clerical error by Dixon is costing me full market price. Also, I never said that I had a buyer for my house.  Dixon is incorrect on that statement.

P[redacted]Company Phone:[redacted]Company Email:[redacted]Person Who Sent the Complaint:[redacted]Staff Member:Response:Customer spoke with rep on 12/15/14 informed house was for sale Dixon should stop budget plan and auto credit card charge but keep automatic delivery. Customer called on 2/10/15 after receiving his auto delivery and said he did not want oil. He was informed that we do a measure for closing so that he would be reimbursed he said the buyers could barely afford to close and he did not want them to have to pay for oil in tank ( although on his follow-up call he said he did not in fact have a buyer). We offered to reduce the cost of delivery to 2.39 per gallon, the account has now been put on a will call status, and if there is any oil left in the tank after the extreme cold we have had we will schedule a pump out this summer.

Review: In Dec, 2014, I was selling my house. At that time, I called Dixon Bros. requesting to be taken off of automatic bill pay and automatic heating oil delivery. I was informed that I had a credit on my account of approx. $500, which I immediately requested. I purchased a new home and my old home would be vacant in a few weeks. I moved out and lowered the thermostat to 50 degrees.

I had over 100 gallons of heating oil left to heat a house that was...

1-Vacant

2-Less than 1000 sq. ft

3-Had a thermostat set to 50 degrees

4-Was in constant sunlight

Should have been more than adequate to get me through the end of the season. The reason I wanted to discontinue service is that I recently found out Dixon oil was higher priced than local competitors, and if I was selling the house, I do not want to pay premium prices for oil that I would not be using. ([redacted] was 30 cents/gal cheaper the week of Feb 9th)

On Feb 9, 2015, when checking up on the house I am selling, I find that not only have I not gotten my refund, but 179.6 gallons of heating oil was delivered without my knowledge, at a cost of $2.69/gallon, resulting in a bill of $483.12. I called Dixon to get to the bottom of this, only to find out that the employee that took my info back in Dec took poor notes and kept me on automatic delivery. She subsequently blamed me for her poor note-taking. I have been hung up on 3 times, and have yet to receive a call from a supervisor.

I asked for my refund again, but to no avail. I asked for the oil to be pumped back out of my tank, but was told that it would have to wait until the spring and cost me an additional $150. The only solutions Dixon is offering was to offer me the oil at $2.39/gal, which is unacceptable. I essentially have lost my $500 refund because of a clerical error. There is no guarantee that when I sell my house that I will be able to negotiate the cost of this oil into the buyers' closing costs.Desired Settlement: Their solutions that they gave me of pumping out in the spring and charging me $150 is not acceptable. The "reduced" rate of $2.39 is not any cheaper than oil that I can get from local competitors. My desired outcome would be for them to issue me my $500 credit and leave the oil in my tank, since it is their mistake that they delivered it to me. This is not a piece of merchandise that I can easily return myself because it is sitting in an oil tank, mixed with the oil that was already in there.

I would be open to paying for it at an actual REDUCED RATE, not $2.39/gal. Dixon should split the cost 50/50 with me at a minimum and issue me the refund for the balance on my account (approx. $250)
