FRAUDULENT REPAIR SERVICE BY CONTRACTOR.
CONTRACTOR COLLECTED INSURANCE MONEY BUT DID NOT PERFORM JOB PROPERLY.
We had an accident at our house in April 2012. We hired D.L. [redacted] Construction to do repairs. Contractor was paid by Insurance for all repairs including new flooring at foyer. Contractor was to remove old flooring & replace with new. Instead, laminate was glued on top of old wood floor & without a moisture barrier. A few months later the laminate buckled & original wood underneath rotted with mold & mildew. Contractor claimed we had a leak that caused damage & suggested we have plumber & American Leak company evaluate. We hired them & they found "no leak". Insurance adjuster,Disaster Response Team (DRT)& other contractors also investigated & determined "no water leak on the property. Floor damages are due to moisture trapped between new flooring & the old floor & that the removal of the old flooring was not completed. THE NEW FLOORING WAS INSTALLED IMPROPERLY ON TOP OF THE OLD FLOORING."
Per insurance:"FLOORING IMPROPERLY INSTALLED, WORKMANSHIP DEFAULT. Contractor should replace at no cost to us since they paid him but he didn't complete job properly."
Contractor was notified of this. He said the companies were bias. So we offered for him to send whomever he wanted to check for the leak he claimed we had. He never commented on it. Instead he denied responsibility,accused us of letting water soak the floor,refused to repair unless we paid him & for us to contact his attorney if we didn't like how he was handling this.
Eventually he agreed to remove old flooring which his crew did a poor job leaving plenty of stubborn glue that took another repairman 2+hrs to remove. In addition, Mr. [redacted] tried to charge us for the wood floor removal. He claimed he had to pay his guys for the job & that we should pay for it too. We reiterated that insurance already paid him to demo the floor but it was not completed.
Furthermore, we finally convinced him to help pay for new flooring. He agreed to $420 which is only half of the $840 that insurance already paid him. But before we accept his $420 check, we HAD TO sign a form releasing him of all liability of flooring & front door. The form was not as we expected - very lengthy & the wording sounded tricky to us so WE DID NOT SIGN NOR ACCEPT ANY PAYMENT.
Unfortunately Mr. [redacted] continues to claim we have a leak in our home & that he offered to replace the damaged wood flooring at no cost to us but we declined because wanted tile. He seems to use those excuses to cover up the faulty workmanship.
Owner [redacted] has been unfair, unprofessional& has treated us poorly.I am a disabled veteran & this has strained my health & well being. I've been kind to Mr.[redacted] & his crew. All I've asked is that he would help us out but he has been difficult & uncooperative.
We strongly feel that it was necessary to report him for fraudulent repair service & for collecting insurance funds for which he did not perform the job properly. By reporting this company, we hope to prevent others from an a bad experience like this.
