DMV Towing

Review: Our company dispatches towing for charity car donation programs. They use us when normal transport cannot occur. Much of the work occurs over the weekend when auction houses close and donors need immediate pickup. On Friday, April 19, 2013 (after auto auction houses close), [redacted] asked us to take a car in [redacted], VA so we called DMV Towing to get it and take it to auction on Monday. He gave his price ( towing and 3 days storage fees) and agreed to accept a check by mail upon the receipt of his invoice. We followed up with a letter accepting these conditions. When he got the car, he asked permission to swap the donation with his own car since they are the same. I told him I would ask the [redacted] managers who usually take 3 business days to consider pre-auction purchase requests from towers.When I came back to him with the negative decision in the middle of the following week, he suddenly told me that he would not accept a check, and that he wouldnt take the car to auction until paid cash, in full for towing and storage that had amassed to $730. And, he would not take credit cards. He made the charity pay storage until they considered his request which takes 4 business days. We never even saw his invoice until a week of charges rang up. Essentially, he was asked to store the car and deliver it Monday and accept a payment with a check. Instead of taking it, he interrupted the transaction with his request so he could rack up his storage fees until he got his answer, and then held the car hostage by demanding a cash transaction from afar. We paid $730 for a job that should have cost $325.Desired Settlement: We want $405 partial reimbursement of the charges as follows: $730 - 325 =$405.
